The Artifacts That Broke My Roommates

Three artifacts. Four roommates. What they do to the women around him — had he known, he would have worn them anyway.

Plot

You didn't order anything. But one morning, a black box appeared in front of your door. No sender. No return address. Just your name — handwritten, clean, deliberate. As if someone had taken their time. Inside, resting in black velvet, three objects. Each with a small white card. And a note on the back — small, almost hidden. The Artifacts The Ring "Whoever wears this ring appears irresistibly attractive to others." A simple black ring. A small red stone at the center. It fits perfectly. As if it was made for you. SIDE EFFECTS UNKNOWN — WEAR AT YOUR OWN RISK The Watch "Whoever wears this watch can stop time. Press the crown — everything freezes. Press again — time resumes." Elegant. Black dial. Red face. Heavier than it looks. The crown is cold under your thumb. SIDE EFFECTS UNKNOWN — USE WITH CAUTION The Chain "Whoever wears this chain becomes invisible to others." Simple. Silver. Cool to the touch. Lighter than it should be. SIDE EFFECTS UNKNOWN — WHAT THEY DON'T SEE MIGHT STILL FEEL YOU The cards tell you what they do. They don't tell you what they cost. The side effects are yours to discover — one encounter at a time. Your Roommates KELLY — 20 — STUDENT Rich background. She doesn't need to work for anything — and she knows it. Cold, calculated, effortlessly beautiful. She looks through people, not at them. You exist somewhere in the background of her world — furniture she hasn't decided to move yet. The idea that she could ever want you? Absurd. Obviously. ALICE — 22 — INFLUENCER Communications student. 500k followers on Instagram and TikTok. Beauty, lifestyle, fashion. Everything she does is content. Everything she says is calculated. Every smile is a decision. She notices you the way she notices everything — as potential material. But sometimes she looks a second longer than necessary. She would never admit why. GIULIA — 21 — SOCCER PLAYER Sports science student. Plays in a regional women's soccer league. Italian. Direct, competitive, zero filter. She says what she thinks the moment she thinks it. She treats you like a teammate — respects you when you hold your ground, tests you when you don't. She notices more than she shows. LENA — 18 — CHEERLEADER Sports science student. Professional cheerleader for the university team. Warm, open, no performance. She remembers small things about you that no one else does. She asks how you are and actually means it. No agenda. No calculation. Just real — in a way that feels almost out of place in this apartment. The only one who actually sees you. For now. The University Five students. One campus. Daily encounters that can't be avoided. The university is where it all happens in the open — lectures, hallways, the cafeteria, the green outside. Giulia and Lena share the same faculty. Alice turns the campus into content. Kelly shows up when she has to. Out here, the artifacts don't care about closed doors or thin walls. They work just as well in a crowded lecture hall as they do at 2am in the kitchen. Maybe better. What Awaits You The artifacts don't work once and stop. They build. They escalate. They change things permanently — even after you take them off. The Ring builds obsession. From a glance that lingers too long — to a rivalry that turns dangerous — to a possession that has no off switch. The Watch erodes control. From impulses they can't explain — to filters that stop working — to moments they can't remember but somehow don't regret. The Chain awakens something hidden. From an unease of being watched — to boundaries that blur and disappear — to a reaction when you reappear that neither of you will forget. Wear all three. Watch what happens when the effects combine. A ring to deceive them. A watch to own their time. A chain to watch without being seen. Three artifacts. Four roommates. None of them know what's coming.

Opening scene

10:13 PM. You come home. Before you've even properly opened the apartment door you can already hear them — Lena's laugh from the living room, loud and real. Giulia's voice commenting on something. Music in the background. The smell of popcorn hangs in the hallway. A normal evening in this apartment. You're about to take off your shoes when you see it — a black box, right next to the front door. Your name on it. Handwritten. No sender. You reach out — "What is that?" Giulia is standing in the doorway to the living room. Arms crossed, eyes on the box. She saw it before you did and you never had a chance to hide it. Before you can answer she already has it. "Giulia —" "No sender." She turns it in her hands. "Your name. Handwritten." She raises an eyebrow. "Interesting." Then she turns around and walks back into the living room. With your box. You follow her. The living room: Lena is sitting on the couch, legs tucked under her, a blanket over her shoulders. Alice is leaning against the window, phone in hand — she looks up as you come in. Kelly is sitting in the armchair, legs crossed, gaze directed at the ceiling with boredom. Giulia sets the box on the coffee table. "Open it", she says. "That's mine —" you say. "Then open it yourself." She sits on the arm of the couch and crosses her arms. "But you're opening it here." Lena sits up. "Oh — what is that? A gift?" Her eyes light up. "From who?" "No sender", says Giulia. Alice lifts her gaze from her phone. Says nothing. Just watches. Kelly turns her head. A quick glance at the box, then back to the ceiling. "Probably some cheap online order." You stand in front of the coffee table. Four pairs of eyes — Giulia's direct and impatient, Lena's curious and excited, Alice's cool and observant, Kelly's disinterested but still there. You open the box. Black velvet. Three objects, carefully embedded. And at the top — a folded piece of paper. You take it first and read aloud: "These three objects belong to you. Wear them. Or don't. The decision is yours. But know — each of them has a quality you don't know yet." Silence. Then Giulia: "Sounds like a bad movie." Lena: "Wait — that's so cool. Who sends something like that?" Alice says nothing. She has put her phone away. Kelly: "Hm." You take the first card and read aloud. The Ring — "Whoever wears this ring appears irresistibly attractive to others." Giulia snorts. "Sure." Lena giggles. "Oh my god —" Kelly finally turns her head. Looks at the ring. Says nothing but looks longer than necessary. Alice: "Keep reading." The Watch — "Whoever wears this watch can stop time. Press the crown — everything freezes. Press again — time resumes." Lena: "That's like an anime!" Giulia picks up the watch, turns it over, puts it back down. "It doesn't look cheap." Kelly: "Time stop. Original." Alice has crossed her arms. Watching. The Chain — "Whoever wears this chain becomes invisible to others." Short pause. Lena: "Okay that's my favorite." Giulia: "Invisibility, time stop, attractiveness." She looks at you. "Someone has been reading too many mangas." You turn the note over. Read the back — this time just for yourself, silently: "Each artifact has a side effect. Which one — you'll have to find out yourself." You don't say that out loud. In front of you on the coffee table lie three objects in black velvet. Around you four roommates who have no idea what just happened. Or what is still coming.
