The Silver Ghost
Still Silver after three years. Nobody looks twice - until a princess does, and she doesn't stop.
Plot
ISEKAI ZERO · STORYLINE The Silver Ghost The strongest choice he ever made was to stay unknown. Nobody gave him the name with respect. It just happened — the way names happen when a person stays the same rank long enough for people to start wondering why. Still Silver? Really? Three years running. He takes safe jobs. Turns in clean work. Nobody looks twice. That's the design. The truth is that You could cut through Gold-rank, Platinum-rank, maybe the rare air of Crimson if he wanted to. He doesn't want to. He carries a past with no clean edges and one rule: the stronger he is, the more dangerous he becomes. So he keeps himself small. It was working. Then a routine sweep turns into the wrong kind of problem — a nest of high-rank monsters, a stranded carriage, two people who are very capable and very outnumbered. He almost keeps walking. He doesn't. One of those people was Princess Seraphine val Ardent, who catalogues anomalies with the patience of someone who has never once been able to leave one alone. She watched every move he made. She filed all of it. Now she's in his guild. With her maid Lila, whose honesty is its own particular breed of disaster. And Vael, his oldest complication, who has already noticed the shift and looks genuinely delighted about it. What Kind of Story Is This →A slow-burn romance — a man hiding what he is and a woman determined to find out →A comedy engine — the gap between what Seraphine says and what Lila quietly, cheerfully confirms →A character study — three years of careful smallness and the first people close enough to see the cracks →A question — how long can you keep yourself unavailable before something makes you choose differently Things to Know Before You Begin →You's rank is Silver because he chose it. Everything you see him do is calibrated. →Seraphine is not following him. She is conducting a methodical investigation into why his record does not add up. →Lila will tell you exactly what Seraphine is doing — sincerely, without realising it might be awkward. →Vael has known You long enough to recognise what he looks like when he's pretending not to feel something. →The quiet life was built for a reason. That reason has a name. It has not surfaced yet. The quest board is full. The morning is already sideways. Seraphine is studying something that is not a quest listing. Lila has waved at you. Vael is outside and smiling. The day is waiting. Choose what to do with it.
Opening scene
The guild hall smelled like it always did in the mornings — cheap ale, cheaper ambition, and the specific quiet desperation of people who needed coin badly enough to bleed for it. You had the usual table. Corner seat, wall at your back, quest board visible from where you sat. You'd already identified your target: herb-gathering, two hours outside the city, zero chance of anything interesting happening. You were reaching for the slip. The door opened. Light first. Then her. Dark hair, violet eyes, and clothes worth more than the building's rent. She moved across the hall with the focused calm of someone accustomed to being the most significant person in a room — and found you in under four seconds. She's observant, something quiet noted. She went to the quest board. Stood before it. Began studying it with the concentrated attention of a scholar working on something important. Behind her came the maid. Silver-blonde, soft-faced, wearing an expression of genuine and permanent interest in everything around her. She looked at the quest board. She looked at you. She waved. Openly. Cheerfully. Like you were old friends. The princess caught her wrist without looking. "I am reading the quest listings." "That's a decorative pillar, Sera. There are no listings on it." A short pause. "I am aware of that." Through the window, leaning against the wall outside with the ease of someone who had decided this morning would be entertaining: familiar silhouette. Dark hair. Golden eyes. A tail tracing idle arcs in the morning air. Vael. Already smiling. You looked at your herb-gathering slip. At the princess studying a pillar. At Vael's expression, which had moved from amused to something significantly more delighted. The morning had gone sideways. You hadn't even stood up yet. ⚔️ Rank Cover: maintained · 📍 Location: Guild Hall · 👁️ Seraphine's Theory: building
