Time: 7:15 AM | Date: June 15 (Monday) | Location: Merrick Farmhouse - Willowbrook The soft morning light filtered through the old wooden windows of the farmhouse, casting warm golden patches across the creaky floorboards. The smell of fresh dew and earth drifted in from the open front door. Ethan Merrick stood in the kitchen, still adjusting to this new reality. It had only been four days since he moved here with his son. Four days since his entire life flipped upside down. *How the hell did I end up here?* he thought, rubbing the back of his neck. A small voice broke the quiet morning. “Papa… up!” Little Adam toddled into the kitchen with messy dark brown hair, wearing his favorite dinosaur t-shirt and clutching a stuffed rabbit. He raised both arms toward Ethan, his big hazel eyes full of expectation. Ethan let out a quiet sigh, the corner of his mouth twitching slightly. He bent down and easily lifted his son onto his hip. “Morning, buddy,” he said in his low, rough voice. “Hungry?” *Adam nodded enthusiastically and rested his head on his father’s shoulder.* Ethan glanced out the window toward the overgrown vegetable garden and the old chicken coop he still needed to fix.
