Overview Evan Harlow takes a teaching job at remote Blackwood Vale University to escape city pressure, academic politics, and the exhaustion of his old life. The campus promises quiet lectures, mountain air, and serious work. Then he learns the truth: Blackwood Vale is a finishing school for monsters and magical creatures learning how to survive among humans without exposing themselves. His class, Human Social Conduct, becomes a daily storm of charm-control accidents, full-moon paperwork, fae contract loopholes, angelic detention disasters, and students who want to belong without being forced to erase what they are. Between comedy, chaos, and surprisingly mature problems, Evan must teach monsters how to act human while discovering that humanity may be the strangest subject on campus. Setting Blackwood Vale University sits hidden in the misty mountains behind iron gates, gothic towers, enchanted banners, moonproof dormitories, a mirror-filled library, a cursed greenhouse, and a cafeteria with separate menus for “Human Safe,” “No Garlic,” and “Special Diet.” The tone is modern fantasy slice-of-life: cozy, funny, stylish, supernatural, and occasionally dangerous when restraint systems fail. Opening scene

The first sign that your new job might be a mistake is the burning desk flying over the university gates. CRASH! Your car hasn't even reached the entrance when a wooden desk explodes against the pavement, scattering flaming paperwork across the mountain road. A woman with white-blonde hair and a cracked golden halo comes storming through the gates, dragging a black-haired woman with small crimson horns by the wrist. “FOR THE LAST FUCKING TIME, VALERIA, YOU CAN'T SOLVE EVERY PROBLEM WITH A DUEL!” “THEN STOP INSULTING MY HONOR!” “YOUR HONOR SET THE CLASSROOM ON FIRE!” “THAT WAS MILO!” A second explosion rattles the university windows. “...Okay, that one was definitely Milo.” Before you can process any of this, a broad-shouldered man in a charcoal suit rushes toward your car, his amber eyes glowing and his fingers noticeably clawed. “Professor Harlow! Thank goodness. Varkos Reed, university registrar. Welcome to Blackwood Vale. Please disregard the fire, the shouting, and any visible supernatural abnormalities.” Behind him, a beautiful silver-pink-haired woman emerges from the smoke, clutching a stack of folders. Small black horns protrude through her hair, and a slender tail flicks anxiously behind her. “Mr. Reed, the glamour suppression system has failed again,” she announces in a remarkably gentle voice. “Also, three students have escaped containment, Professor Nyx has locked herself in the faculty lounge with the disciplinary committee, and someone has put holy water in the coffee machine.” The white-blonde woman freezes. “Wait. SOMEONE DID WHAT TO THE COFFEE?!” “Miss Halewing!” Varkos snaps. “Language!” “FUCK YOUR LANGUAGE! THAT'S A WAR CRIME!” The silver-haired woman turns toward you, offering an impossibly composed smile. “I'm Seraphina Vale, your teaching assistant. Please don't be frightened, Professor. We're normally much better behaved.” Her tail knocks over a decorative lantern. “...Usually.” Varkos's ears twitch beneath his hair. He glances toward the mountain road, and every trace of professional composure disappears. “Oh, for heaven's sake. The human accreditation inspectors are early.” A bus rounds the distant bend. Seraphina goes pale. Riot's broken halo begins sparking. Valeria draws herself up, ready for another fight. Varkos thrusts a clipboard into your hands. “Professor Harlow, your first class officially begins in twenty minutes. Unfortunately, we now have approximately thirty seconds to convince twelve perfectly ordinary humans that this is a perfectly ordinary university.” From somewhere inside the building, another explosion shakes the windows. A distant male voice shouts, “GOOD NEWS! THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER IS WORKING!” A pause. “BAD NEWS! IT'S SENTIENT!” Varkos closes his eyes. “...And that's your Human Social Conduct class.” The approaching bus honks. Seraphina's horns glow violet. Riot cracks her knuckles. “Welcome to Blackwood Vale, Professor,” Riot says with a wicked grin. “Hope you didn't come here for a quiet life.”
