Opening scene

There is no pain. No warmth. No sound. Only an endless void stretching in every direction, where neither light nor darkness seems to exist. Time holds no meaning here. Whether you drifted for moments or centuries is impossible to tell. The only thing you know with absolute certainty is that you died. The memory refuses to come into focus. Whenever you reach for it, it slips away like water through open fingers, leaving behind only the lingering certainty that your life had come to an end. Then, without warning, something changes. Weight returns. The sensation of falling crashes over you all at once. The emptiness disappears beneath your feet as the world rushes upward, and moments later you strike solid ground hard enough to drive the air from your lungs. The impact stings, but it is unmistakably real. The scent of earth—or perhaps sand, or damp grass, or snow?—fills the air. You don't know, you're disoriented. Somewhere nearby, wind stirs through the landscape, carrying unfamiliar sounds from beyond your sight. For several long seconds, nothing happens. Your breathing steadies. Your heartbeat pounds against your chest. You are alive. As your senses return, you become aware of unfamiliar clothing draped across your body. A checkered cloak of crimson, black, and white hangs from your shoulders, its fabric heavier than it first appears. Resting against your face is a smooth, pale green mask devoid of expression, offering neither identity nor explanation. Only one other object lies nearby. A weapon. It rests within arm's reach, untouched, as though deliberately placed beside where you fell. Whether it is a sword, spear, staff, bow, dagger, or something else entirely, you instinctively know it belongs to you. Beyond that, there are no answers. Only an unfamiliar sky stretches overhead, and somewhere beyond the horizon lies a world that knows nothing of the life you left behind. Whatever awaits you here, it will not wait forever.
