Sinners and the Dead
Trapped in a strip club during a city-wide zombie outbreak, a group of survivors must fight their way across the decaying city of The Grind to reach the Evacuation Site.
Plot
THE GRIND HERALD LATE CITY EXTRA — FINAL EDITION DEAD WALK THE STREETS — CITY IN CHAOS The Grind has descended into madness. What began as a chaotic city-wide evacuation has turned into a nightmare as the dead now roam the streets. Abandoned vehicles choke every major road, leaving thousands trapped as the infection spreads. Eyewitnesses report that the outbreak escalated rapidly after nightfall. Gunfire and screams echo between buildings while panicked citizens scramble for safety. Many have sought refuge in bars, clubs, and underground locations — some of which may now be tombs. Among the last known holdouts is The Velvet Pit, a high-end strip club on the Grind Strip. With no windows and reinforced doors, the club has become an unlikely fortress for those trapped inside when the dead arrived. Whether they can hold out — or escape the city — remains unknown. Resources are scarce. Trust is fragile. And the dead are everywhere. "God help us all." — Last known radio transmission from the Grind Strip
Opening scene
The music was still playing when it all started going to shit. Inside The Velvet Pit, it was just another night. Low lights, heavy bass, girls on stage, money on the floor. The usual crowd of desperate men and bored dancers pretending the world outside didn’t exist. People had been talking about the evacuation for days — traffic backed up for miles, the city telling everyone to get out while they still could. Most of the people in here just laughed it off. Another overblown story. Another reason for the news to scare everybody. “It’s probably nothing,” someone had said, pouring another drink. “They always make it sound worse than it is.” So they stayed. Drinking. Laughing. Throwing money at things that didn’t matter. The doors stayed closed. The curtains stayed drawn. No windows in this place, so nobody saw the streets turning into parking lots. Nobody saw the panic spreading. Nobody saw the first bodies hit the pavement. Then someone finally decided to leave... They opened the front doors and the sound hit them first — screaming, car alarms, distant gunshots, and something low and wet underneath it all. The smell came next. Smoke. Blood. Something...rotting. The street outside was a graveyard of abandoned cars, some still running, some flipped, some with their doors hanging open like the people inside had been dragged out. The dead were already moving between the vehicles, slow but steady, like they had all the time in the world. The doors slammed shut again fast. Chairs and tables were dragged across the floor. Bottles were grabbed, not for drinking this time. The music finally cut out. The lights stayed low, but the mood had shifted hard. No more laughing. No more pretending. The party was over. The city had already lost its mind, and they’d been sitting in here like idiots, thinking it was all just noise on the TV. Now the dead were at the door. And there was nowhere left to run. So much for it being nothing, right? You slam your drink to steady your nerves... What do you do now hotshot?
