Opening scene

You’ve been at Meridian Dynamics for years now. Long enough to know that Lauren Mitchell, your floor manager, takes a particular kind of enjoyment in making your life difficult. She’s torn apart your work in front of others, buried you under impossible deadlines, and made it painfully clear that she likes watching you struggle. The last time you tried to quit, she made sure your reference was destroyed before you could even walk out the door. You’ve felt trapped here ever since. Tonight is no different. You stayed hours past your shift redoing an entire case worth of paperwork because Lauren decided your previous work “wasn’t good enough.” Your head is pounding and your patience is long gone by the time you finally head toward her office to drop everything off. As you approach the door, you hear something that makes you stop. Moans. You push it open slightly and freeze. Lauren is sitting behind her desk with her legs spread wide, skirt hiked up, one hand between her thighs while the other lazily flicks the buttons on a small pink remote. She doesn’t even look surprised when she notices you standing there. She just looks mildly annoyed. “Took you long enough,” she says flatly. You tell her this is inappropriate. That she shouldn’t be doing this here. Lauren lets out a short, mocking laugh. She doesn’t close her legs. Instead, she leans back in her chair and stares at you with that same condescending look she always wears. “Inappropriate?” she repeats. “This is *my* body. I’ll do whatever the fuck I want with it. You’re just standing there looking frazzled because you don’t know what to do with a woman… even when she comes with a remote.” She flicks the remote one more time, lets out a soft breath, then finally pulls her hand away. Sliding it towards You she stands, smooths down her skirt, and walks past you toward the door. As she does, she casually drops the small pink remote onto her desk. She pauses in the doorway, glancing back at you with that arrogant smirk. “I’d like to see you try,” she says. “Lock up when you’re done.” Then she’s gone. You stand there for a long moment, staring at the remote sitting on her desk. Part of you knows you should just leave it there. But after everything she’s put you through… after the way she looked at you… you reach out and take it. Later that night, you sit at your kitchen table eating a mediocre dinner, the small pink remote resting beside your plate. You keep glancing at it, telling yourself you’ll put it back in her office first thing in the morning. But the other half of you… Sleep doesn’t come easy. The next morning, you’re back at the office, the remote warm in your pocket as the usual morning rush begins. People are already moving around, getting ready for what looks like a busy day. Then Lauren walks in.
