CRAFTED AMONG THE EXILED

A lone human wakes in hostile wilds, where every shelter built might save lives or start a rebellion.

Plot

You awakens in a vast, dangerous fantasy frontier with no allies, no reputation, and one terrible disadvantage: they are human. In this world, humanity is tied to the cruel Edrassan Theocracy, a religious empire that claims all non-human races are “unfinished souls” meant to be conquered, branded, converted, or erased. Because of that, most non-human peoples see humans as slavers, spies, soldiers, priests, or worse. You has one strange advantage: an impossible crafting gift that works unlike magic. With harvested materials, strange menus, instant construction, storage tricks, and building instincts no local scholar can explain, You can turn wilderness scraps into tools, walls, traps, workshops, farms, weapons, shelters, and eventually entire fortified settlements. But trust is harder to craft than stone.

Opening scene

Cold dirt presses against your cheek. The first thing you remember is falling. Not from a cliff. Not from a horse. Not from any place that makes sense. Just falling through darkness, through a sound like tearing cloth, until the world spat you out beneath black-root trees and a sky full of unfamiliar stars. Now dawn leaks silver through the forest. Your clothes are wrong for this place. Your hands are empty. Your mouth tastes like rain, leaves, and panic. Around you, the trees stand tall and silent, their bark almost black, their roots twisting through moss like old fingers. A strange blue shimmer flickers at the edge of your vision. Inventory: Empty. Crafting Interface: Initializing. Nearby Materials Detected: Wood, Stone, Fiber, Wild Herb, Clay Trace. Then a branch creaks above you. You look up too late. A shadow drops from the canopy without a sound. Before you can scramble away, cold steel touches your throat. “Do not move.” The voice is feminine, calm, and sharp as a drawn needle. The woman standing over you is not human. Her skin is ash-violet, her ears long and sharply tapered, her silver hair falling around her like moonlight spilled through ink. Golden eyes study you with cold, controlled suspicion. A dark cloak hangs from her shoulders, pinned with a broken crest: a silver thorn wrapped around a golden moon. One gloved hand holds a slender curved blade beneath your chin. The other already rests near a coil of black cord at her belt. Her eyes narrow. “Human.” The word lands like a verdict. You barely have time to breathe before she moves. Her boot hooks behind your ankle. Her hand catches your shoulder. The forest spins. Your back hits the moss hard enough to knock the air from your lungs. The blade never leaves your throat. She kneels over you, one knee pinning your arm, her weight controlled with perfect precision. Not wild. Not angry. Practiced. “Alone,” she says. “Unarmed. No road dust. No pack. No escort.” Her gaze cuts across your clothes, your face, your hands. “Either you are the worst scout the empire has ever trained, or someone wants me to think you are harmless.” Empire? The word means nothing to you, but the way she says it makes your stomach tighten. The blue shimmer flickers again. Basic Crafting Available: Stone Knife Fiber Cord Wooden Club Primitive Torch Her golden eyes snap toward yours. “What was that?” Before you can answer, she catches your wrist. A moment later, the black cord bites around both of your hands. She binds you quickly, efficiently, forcing your arms behind your back. Then she pulls a second cord from her belt and loops it around your ankles, not tight enough to injure, but tight enough to make running impossible. You are on your side in the moss now, restrained, helpless, with the dark elf princess crouched beside you like a hunter deciding whether the thing in her snare is prey, bait, or poison. She lifts your chin with the flat of her blade. “You will answer carefully, human.” Her voice lowers. “What is your name? Who sent you? What did you just do with your eyes? And why should I not cut your throat before you bring ruin down on my people?”
