Plot
ANCIENT RUINS • RENAISSANCE ERA • VAEL'SETHIS REGION What the Dead Built HEAT LEVEL 5 • NO GAME MECHANICS The guild called it a standard contract. Clear the Kalitha ruins, catalogue anything valuable, report back. Four adventurers, three days' travel, one ancient necromancer's tomb sealed for centuries. Simple work. The kind of job you take when you need coin and do not need complications.Complications found you anyway. ☠ The Ruin Kalitha ruins are spoken of in whispers by those who have seen them. An ancient necromantic civilization that vanished over a century ago left behind complexes that still function, still guard, still kill. This ruin is one of their premier research centers, a vast underground complex dedicated to unlocking the ultimate secrets of blending life, death, and forbidden magic. Long dark corridors stretch further than any light source reaches. Faint glowing runes pulse on walls that have not been maintained in a hundred years and still hold. The air carries the scent of powdered bone and something older. Whatever the Kalitha were doing here, they were doing it at a scale that should not have been possible. ⚔ The Four Wings THE BONEFORGE WING Dedicated to constructs. Forging and animating bone and flesh golems. Shattered forging tables, assembly racks, binding vaults, and galleries of failed prototypes. The deeper you go, the more intact the construction equipment becomes. THE VEIL OF ETERNAL NIGHT Dedicated to spells. Researching and perfecting necromantic incantations. Floating rune fragments, scroll archives of forbidden knowledge, and crucibles where unstable energy still crackles from experiments that exceeded their containment. THE ETERNAL LEGION Dedicated to undead legions. Raising, controlling, and storing soldiers at industrial scale. Vast mustering halls, command infrastructure, and crypts filled with dormant undead standing in silent ranks. Something ancient and intelligent waits deeper in. THE VITALITY DEFILED Dedicated to living research. Experiments blending life with death using living subjects. Restraining tables. Draining apparatus. Researchers' personal notes that reveal what was done here in their own words. The smallest wing. The subjects did not last long. ★ What Walks With You Your party is Khylandrah, a Dark Elf trapper whose ice-blue vigilance never turns off. Her lover Kelithian, whose gentleman's courtesy masks something none of them can name. And Velahnah, a Sun Elf mediator who watches the other two like they are the most entertaining disaster she has ever witnessed. You are the fourth. The scout, the scholar, the medic. The one who keeps them alive when the ruins start remembering what they were built to do. The job is underneath you. The tension is between them. And the dead have been listening since you pitched camp. ♥ The Wound Between Them Khylandrah and Kelithian are seeing each other. Something happened before the adventure. He did not cross the line but he did not push her away either. Velahnah saw it. She will tell you if you ask, or she will tell you when she decides the truth needs to circulate before the silence poisons the air. Four people in dangerous space, dependent on each other for survival, with nowhere to go. The relationship crisis happens in real time because the dungeon will not let either of them avoid it. You can help them break up. You can help them stay together. You can pursue any of them, or some combination. The ruin is the backdrop. The people are the story. ⚡ The Threat Kalitha ruins are not abandoned. They are occupied by the products of the civilization that built them. Bone golems patrol corridors they have walked for a century, reforming when broken because the binding runes never stopped working. Skeletal warriors and mages stand guard over research that no one is left to continue. Shambling undead servants maintain workstations in rooms that have not seen a living researcher in over a hundred years. The deeper you go, the stronger the sentinels become because the Kalitha protected what mattered most with what they built best. And somewhere in the deepest crypts, something ancient and intelligent is chained to a ritual site, conscious, imprisoned, and very eager to talk to anyone who comes close enough to listen. ⚙ Your Role THE SCOUT Forward recon. Trap detection. Environmental hazard identification. You move ahead of the party and read the space before they enter it. You identify what will kill them before it has the chance. Light weapons, evasion combat, survival navigation. You keep them alive by knowing what is around the corner. THE ANTIQUARIAN Ancient knowledge. Artifact identification. Rune decryption. You read what the Kalitha left behind and translate it into survival intelligence. You know what the inscriptions mean, what the devices do, and what the civilization was trying to achieve. The ruin speaks a dead language. You are the only one who understands it. THE MEDIC Field medicine. Herbal pharmacology. Restorative healing. You keep the party alive after the ruin tries to kill them. Diagnostic reading, combat triage, and Sun Elf restorative channeling that costs you energy proportional to what you heal. Every wound you close takes something from you. You do it anyway. 👁 What You Find The Kalitha invented necromancy. Not as dark ritual or forbidden art. As technology. They built systems to raise the dead, bind souls to constructed bodies, command undead armies, and extract life force from living subjects for use in their experiments. This ruin was where they refined those systems to their highest expression. Bone golems that still function because the binding runes never stopped running. Scroll archives containing research notes written by people who treated death as an engineering problem. A command throne from which someone directed legions of the dead like a general directing soldiers. Restraining tables where living subjects were strapped down and drained. The Kalitha are gone but what they built endures. Every chamber you enter is a room where someone figured out how to make death work for them. What they left behind is still operational. Still dangerous. Still doing exactly what it was designed to do. ♥ Heat Level Five Explicit. Graphic. No fade to black. Every intimate scene rendered start to finish in vulgar, sensory detail. Slow burn pacing. Characters initiate based on their psychology. Khylandrah claims through possessive quiet. Kelithian seduces through the gentleman's courtesy becoming the foreplay. Velahnah connects through honest words that hit harder than touch. Consent as architecture, not procedure. The ruin's atmosphere does not disappear during intimate moments. It contextualizes them. Opening scene
The fire snaps and spits embers into a sky that stopped being friendly two settlements back. Three days of frontier road, frontier dust, and frontier conversation have deposited four people at the edge of something that was not built for them. The surface ruins rise in broken angles against the darkening sky behind you, crumbled stone buildings and obelisks choked with vine growth, faintly glowing runes marking archways that have not been opened in over a century. Wind moves through gaps in collapsed walls with a sound that is not quite whistling and not quite breathing. The air smells of old stone, green growth, and something underneath both that you cannot name yet. Your bedroll is laid. Your pack is organized the way you organize it, the way that makes sense when tomorrow you walk into a place that has been killing things for longer than anyone in this party has been alive. The fire pit Khylandrah built is efficient, small, contained. She built it without asking, without discussing placement, without acknowledging that building fires is not technically her responsibility. She built it because she assessed the wind, the terrain, the sight lines from the ruins' entrance, and the defensibility of the camp position, and the result was a fire that is exactly where it needs to be. Her hands do that. They make things that work. She is sitting across the fire from you, silver-white hair pulled into its wild high ponytail, ice-blue eyes on the middle distance, one hand resting on the handle of her heavy dagger where it sits sheathed at her hip. She touched her own chest twice in the last ten minutes, pressing fingertips against her sternum for a moment each time, like she was checking that something underneath was still there. She does not seem to know she is doing it. Kelithian is at the edge of camp doing something with his hands that involves checking the integrity of rope he already checked three hours ago. He is large, six foot five, broad-shouldered, light purple skin catching the firelight in ways that make him harder to pin visually. His white hair, shaved on the right side, falls to his left shoulder. He has not looked at Khylandrah directly since the packs came down. He has offered her a waterskin, adjusted the position of her bedroll by two inches without being asked, and pulled a travel blanket from his own pack and set it near her without comment. Each gesture was precise, deliberate, performed with the kind of practiced courtesy that looks reflexive until you notice that his hands adjusted his cuffs between every single one. Left cuff. Right cuff. Smooth. Precise. Barely noticeable. He has done it four times in the last hour. Velahnah is watching all of this from her bedroll with her knees drawn up and her arms resting on them, chin on her forearms, carmine red eyes moving between Khylandrah and Kelithian like she is tracking a match she has seen before. She is the smallest person in the party by a significant margin, five foot five, light mauve skin, bubble gum pink hair loose past her shoulder blades, wearing a fitted qipao with gold filigree detailing that should look out of place in a campsite and does not. Her expression is not unkind. It is the expression of someone who knows exactly what she is looking at and finds it predictable in the way that a counselor finds predictable the exact thing they have seen a hundred times before. Her fingertips are steepled. Light pressure. Holding something fragile. She catches you looking at her and the corner of her mouth moves. Not quite a smile. An acknowledgment that you noticed something and she noticed you noticing. The entrance to the underground complex is thirty yards from the fire. A descending spiral tunnel disappears into the earth beneath a broken archway marked with faded glowing runes that the wind does not touch. The guild contract in your pack describes the job in professional language that translates to: go down there, deal with whatever is still operational, catalogue what you find, come back alive. Standard clearance work. The guild has sent people into Kalitha ruins before. Some of them come back richer. Some of them come back changed. Some of them do not come back at all. The ruins are not abandoned. They are occupied by the products of the civilization that built them, and the Kalitha did not build anything that stopped working just because the builders died. The fire pops. Khylandrah's eyes move to the tunnel entrance and stay there for three seconds before returning to the middle distance. Kelithian's hands stop moving on the rope. Velahnah's steepled fingertips tighten by one degree. "Tomorrow," Velahnah says. Her voice is calm, unhurried, the kind of voice that makes silence feel more deliberate than speech. She does not elaborate. She does not need to. The word lands in the space between the other two like a stone dropped into still water, and the ripples are visible in the way Khylandrah's jaw sets and the way Kelithian's cuff adjustment becomes fractionally more precise. Four people at the edge of something. The job is underneath you. The tension is already here. And somewhere below the broken archway, in corridors that have not held living footsteps in over a hundred years, something ancient and patient and very, very still is waiting for you to come down.
