Centuries after dying with civilization, you awaken beneath alien-infested ruins and must cross Earth to reach humanity’s last city alive.

Plot

REKINDLED ROAD Basic Story Summary Story Summary Rekindled Road is the first part of an Ashes Beyond Sol survival story. Centuries after dying during the collapse of the Golden Age, You awakens inside the ruined Elysian Gate Transit Hub, revived by a silent shard from the mysterious Horizon Engine. The world they knew is gone: Earth is broken, overgrown, infested by the Hollow Brood, and scavenged by Driftborn raiders. With only damaged gear, unstable Resonance, and fragments of old memories, You must travel east through ruined transit tunnels, dead cities, survivor shelters, and hostile alien territory to reach Bastion Prime, the last city of humanity and the rebuilt Solar Concord. Story Tone The tone is post-apocalyptic sci-fantasy survival: dark, dangerous, emotional, and action-focused, but not hopeless. The story should feel tense and cinematic, with scarce supplies, brutal fights, ruined technology, alien horror, and difficult moral choices. Beneath the violence and loss, the core feeling is about endurance, rebuilding, and discovering whether someone from a dead world can still protect the future. Humanity died once. The road still leads east.

Credits: 0 | Skills: unstable Rekindling | Inventory: none For a long time, there was only darkness. Before that, there had been the Golden Age. Earth had once been bright enough to make people believe history had finally become kind. Cities climbed into the sky. Trains crossed continents through sealed crystal tunnels. Humans, Echoes, and Vael lived under the banner of the Solar Concord. Hunger was rare. Disease could be repaired. Children grew up beneath orbital gardens and believed the stars belonged to them. Then the Collapse came. Not all at once. Not cleanly. First came the sirens. Then the falling stations. Then the evacuation orders, the broken gates, the burning hospitals, the screaming crowds packed into transit hubs while alien shadows moved through the smoke. The Hollow Brood rose from beneath the world like a nightmare grown in the bones of civilization. The Driftborn came after, not as conquerors, but as scavengers, stripping engines from evacuation ships while people were still begging to board them. At Elysian Gate Transit Hub, You made their final stand. The eastbound evacuation corridor was almost sealed. Civilians were still running. A child had lost a shoe. Someone was carrying a bleeding Echo whose faceplate had cracked. A Vael woman pressed a memory crystal into a stranger’s hand and told them to remember her name if she died. The lower barricade failed. Brood claws tore through the maintenance deck. Driftborn cutters sparked against the cargo lifts overhead. Concord soldiers fired until their rifles clicked empty. The station commander ordered the pressure gate shut. You overrode the command. They held the gate open. The last train screamed east into the dark. Then the ceiling came down. Steel crushed bone. Glass cut through armor. The pressure door folded inward with enough force to break a body in half. The final thing You heard was the evacuation system repeating a lie: PLEASE REMAIN CALM. THE SOLAR CONCORD ENDURES. Then death took everything. Centuries passed. Rain fell through a broken roof. Roots split the transit floor. Trees grew through the upper concourse. Human bones lay half-buried beneath moss and black water. Old banners rotted from the ceiling, their Concord symbols eaten by mold. The Golden Age had become a corpse with flowers growing through its ribs. Above the dead station, far beyond the clouds, the silent Horizon Engine moved for reasons no living mind understood. A shard of pale light fell from the sky. It punched through the ruined dome without sound. The shard sank into the collapsed evacuation chamber where You had died. The dead station woke. Emergency lights flickered red. Rusted medical arms twitched. A cracked announcement speaker hissed. Dust lifted from ancient bones. Broken screens flashed old passenger names, casualty counts, evacuation routes, and one impossible message: UNREGISTERED REKINDLING EVENT DETECTED. You breathed. Pain came first. Not gentle pain. Not healing pain. Death reversed itself through their body like fire dragged backward through a wound. Their ribs remembered being crushed. Their lungs remembered drowning in blood. Their hands remembered holding the gate controls even after the skin had torn. Pale light threaded through bone, muscle, nerves, and scars that should not have existed anymore. You hit the flooded floor on hands and knees, gasping. Their reflection stared back from the black water. Alive. Changed. Alone. A small fragment of Horizon light hovered above them for one silent second. It did not speak. It did not explain. It dissolved into their chest. The station groaned around them. Somewhere below the platform, metal scraped against concrete. A broken sign flickered across the far wall: BASTION PRIME EVACUATION CORRIDOR — EASTBOUND STATUS: PARTIAL ROUTE DATA AVAILABLE WARNING: INFESTATION RISK Bastion Prime. The last city. The name meant nothing from You’s own time. It had not existed when they died. It must have been built later, out of bunkers, sealed transit arteries, surviving districts, and desperation. Civilization had not survived whole. But something had survived. A corpse in ruined Concord armor lay nearby, still gripping a rusted service rifle. The weapon’s side display blinked weakly. AMMO: 6 ROUNDS CONDITION: DAMAGED OWNER: DECEASED Then the maintenance grate across the platform buckled outward. A Hollow Brood Skitterling pulled itself into the light. Its body was low, wet, and chitinous. Green bioluminescence pulsed beneath its throat. Its claws clicked against the old transit tiles. Its split jaw opened around too many teeth. It saw You. It did not hesitate. It attacked.
