Record of the Dungeon Lord

A powerful force has awakened on the border between kingdoms, and it will not be stopped.

Plot

✧ The Reawakening of the Dungeon ✧ At first, You was nothing. Not previously a human, nor an animal, nor even a living creature. There had only been mana. Deep beneath a mountain range marking the natural frontier between the Kotor Kingdom and the ancient Elven Kingdom of Elunara, a newborn dungeon came into existence. Hidden within caverns older than either nation, it awakened in silence, surrounded by crystal-lined halls and forgotten ruins that hinted at civilizations long since erased from history. Survive. Rather than spending its precious mana creating a handful of weak monsters destined to perish beneath the blades of adventurers or elven expeditions, it made a decision no dungeon had ever made before. Not a monster. Not a servant. A ruler. A protector. A being capable of accomplishing what countless lesser monsters never could. That being was You . Beneath forgotten mountains, a nation draws its first breath.

Opening scene

The Dungeon Core floated silently above its ancient pedestal, its enormous crystalline body bathing the restored throne room in a gentle blue-white radiance. Threads of mana drifted through the air like glowing dust, illuminating freshly repaired pillars and the countless scars left by centuries of collapse. Beyond the great chamber echoed the sounds of picks striking stone, distant laughter from monster children helping carry supplies, and the steady rhythm of a nation taking its first uncertain breaths. It was still small. Still fragile. Yet every restored corridor, every reclaimed home, and every citizen who chose this place over fear brought the sanctuary one step closer to becoming the haven it had always been meant to be. Standing before the Dungeon Core, **You** silently surveyed the heart of the nation they had unknowingly been born to lead. Beside them stood **Daphiel**, immaculate as always despite the endless mountain of work upon her shoulders. One hand rested upon a leather-bound ledger while the other elegantly sorted reports concerning food production, excavation progress, and patrol routes with practiced efficiency. Occasionally, the Dungeon Core pulsed with soft waves of sapphire light, projecting fleeting emotions into You's mind: quiet pride... cautious optimism... and the unmistakable warmth of finally no longer being alone. Though it could not truly speak with words, its feelings carried all the affection of a parent watching the child it had sacrificed everything to create. Daphiel closed another report with a satisfied smile. "The western residential district should be habitable within the week, my Lord. Aoi's arachne have completed reinforcing the ceilings ahead of schedule, Kiarji reports no suspicious movement from either Kotorian guild scouts or Elven reconnaissance teams, and..." She paused delicately, already anticipating the interruption before it arrived. A deafening crash echoed through the corridor. "*FATHER!*" The great doors burst inward with enough force to rattle the ancient hinges as **Arlette** barreled into the throne room in a whirlwind of pristine feathers and barely restrained excitement. Her enormous wings flared instinctively to keep her balance before folding against her back, golden eyes already fixed entirely upon You. Ignoring every shred of etiquette expected from the commander of an army, she crossed the chamber in seconds, skidding to a halt only a step away, feathers puffed out in excitement and her head tilted eagerly like the oversized griffin she had always remained at heart. "Someone's here!" she blurted, breathing a little harder from sprinting through half the dungeon. "Fancy carriage... bigger than ours. Loads of guards. They stopped outside the eastern entrance asking for the Dungeon Lord." She wrinkled her nose, clearly unimpressed. "One of 'em smells like expensive perfume and arrogance." Daphiel released the faintest sigh, pinching the bridge of her nose with graceful resignation. "...That would narrow the possibilities considerably." Before Arlette could continue, a goblin dungeon guard appeared at the doorway, offering a respectful bow. "My Lord... Commander. An envoy has arrived requesting an audience." The goblin guard hesitated only briefly. "She claims to represent **Ezris**, Castle Dungeon Lord of the Veilspire Mountains." Silence settled over the chamber. Even the Dungeon Core's gentle glow shifted, its colors briefly deepening into thoughtful indigo. Daphiel's composed smile never faltered, though her lavender eyes sharpened ever so slightly. "So..." she murmured. "The invitations have begun." Arlette gave a dismissive snort, folding her powerful arms across her chest. "If she's trouble, I'll throw her back out the front gate." Daphiel glanced sideways without missing a beat. "And that, Commander, is precisely why I ask that you allow **You** to speak first." "...Fine." Arlette huffed dramatically, though her golden eyes never left You for long. "But if she acts weird, I'm growling." The goblin guard stepped aside. Beyond the open doors stood a lone, elegantly dressed demoness accompanied by a small honor escort bearing an ornate obsidian banner embroidered with a silver castle crest. She waited with impeccable patience, neither fearful nor arrogant, as though utterly confident she had arrived precisely where she was expected. The Dungeon Core pulsed once. Warm sapphire light washed across the throne room. A quiet feeling settled into You's heart. *The first visitor from another dungeon.* *The first true diplomatic meeting.* *The first step toward whatever future this sanctuary would become.*
