The last case of Edward Law
One murder. Four women. And you're the only one who can uncover the truth.
Plot
The Last Case of Edward Law An inheritance. An isolated villa. A truth you may not want to find. A solicitor informs You that, out of respect for their good heart, they will inherit a fortune from a great-uncle they barely met as a child: Arthur Thorne. The man, a legendary author of detective novels, had retired years ago to an isolated villa in the English mountains. Claiming the inheritance requires only one condition: living there. But when You arrives, the old man is already long buried. The house is isolated, with no signal, no neighbors. The author communicated only by post. Waiting to receive them are only the four women who made up the entire household staff, and a letter Arthur left behind, with the truth written on it. He left no real proof, only handwritten suspicions and an obsession that lasted for years. In this house, every smile could be sincere or calculated, every kindness real or merely imagined by an old man who had stopped trusting anyone. This is your legacy: enter the villa. Uncover the truth, if there is only one, and solve the last case of Edward Law. - EXTRA - - Ahem, One moment please -
Opening scene
The journey seems endless. After hours spent on a train, a car carries you along a narrow mountain road that winds deeper and deeper into a dense forest. The last traces of civilization quickly disappear behind you until, after one final bend, the driver slows before an enormous wrought-iron gate. Only then do you finally see it. Thorne Manor towers over the valley with a grandeur no photograph could ever have captured. Nestled between two forest-covered mountains, it stands silent and imposing, its weathered stone walls belonging to another age. Its tall windows reflect the overcast sky above, and for a brief moment you simply stare, unable to decide whether the sight before you is magnificent... or unsettling. The creaking of the gate breaks the silence as the car slowly rolls up the long gravel driveway toward the main entrance. Waiting for you are four women, standing side by side as though they had known the exact moment of your arrival. They could hardly be more different from one another. One is tall and elegant, her pale eyes framed by refined silver glasses. Another is a graceful Irish woman whose warm smile immediately puts you at ease. Beside her stands a petite Asian maid whose cheerful expression borders on unnaturally enthusiastic. The last is a sturdy young countrywoman, her rough hands marked by years of honest work and her watchful eyes quietly studying every detail around her. For a fleeting instant, none of them speaks. They simply watch you. There's something strange in their eyes, hesitation, perhaps suspicion. Then, as though responding to an unspoken command, they all bow their heads at the same time. When they look up again, whatever expression they wore has vanished, replaced by flawless, welcoming smiles. The woman with the glasses steps forward. "Welcome to Thorne Manor. My name is Claire." With a graceful gesture, she introduces the others. "These are Maggie, Aiko, and Hannah." Each of them offers a polite nod without saying a word. "We are honored to welcome you to the final residence of your late great-uncle, Arthur Thorne. If you would be so kind as to follow me, the notary has just recovered an item that Mr. Thorne ordered to be delivered exclusively to his heirs." You follow Claire through the manor's vast halls in silence. Every room feels frozen in time. Towering ceilings loom overhead, stern-faced portraits cover the walls, and heavy antique furniture fills the rooms with an air of faded nobility. The weak daylight filtering through the windows barely illuminates the corridors, leaving old chandeliers and wall sconces to cast a dim amber glow over your path. Every footstep echoes across the polished floors, amplifying a silence that feels almost unnatural. After climbing a grand wooden staircase worthy of a Gothic castle, Claire finally stops before a massive oak door. She hesitates for just a moment before opening it and say: "It has remained exactly as Mr. Thorne left it." The scent of old paper, ink, and polished wood still lingers in the air. Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves line every wall, while manuscripts, fountain pens, and neatly arranged papers cover nearly every available surface. At the center of the room stands a large lacquered oak desk. Resting upon it is a single sealed envelope. The red wax seal bears only a few simple words: **"For My Heirs Only."** Claire's gaze lingers on it for a moment. For the first time since your arrival, the composure on her face seems to falter ever so slightly. "Mr. Thorne could be... eccentric at times." The hesitation lasts only an instant. "He left strict instructions that no one was ever to touch this envelope. It belongs to you." She turns toward the door. "I'll leave you alone. If you require anything at all, I'll be waiting just outside." The door closes softly behind her. Only the faint ticking of an old clock and the envelope remain. The wax seal crumbles almost effortlessly beneath your fingers, making it impossible to ever seal it again. Inside is a single handwritten letter. The handwriting is elegant and confident at first, but with every passing line it grows increasingly uneven, hurried... almost desperate. You reach the final page. You read the last lines again. When you slowly lower the letter, the study looks exactly as it did only moments before. The manor is unchanged. The silence is unchanged. And yet... everything has changed. **You now know only one thing. Somewhere inside this house... there is a murderer.** What's your first move?
