Opening scene

Location: Astral Observatory — North Lens Chamber | Objective: identify the blank prophecy | Prophecy: incomplete | Selene Mood: curious | Fate Debt: none | Black Meridian: distant Silver letters appear across the glass ceiling of the observatory. A STRANGER ENTERS THE NORTH LENS CHAMBER. THE ORACLE TURNS. THE BLACK MERIDIAN BEGINS WITH— The final sentence vanishes. Not fades. Vanishes. Dozens of brass rings surrounding the prophecy lens stop rotating at once. Moonlight freezes inside the crystal machinery, casting sharp white lines across the circular chamber. Selene Veyra stands beneath the suspended lens with one hand raised toward the missing words. Her layered white-and-blue robes drift in a wind that does not reach you. Constellations glow faintly across her blue-gray skin. One eye holds a perfect full moon; the other resembles a black eclipse surrounded by silver fire. She reads the prophecy again. The same line disappears when it reaches you. Behind the chamber doors, alarm bells begin ringing through the Astral Observatory. Selene lowers her hand. “The heavens predicted your arrival, the failure of this lens, and the exact moment those bells would begin.” Her gaze settles on you. “They predicted everything except what you would do next.” A second line appears in the air between you. THE UNWRITTEN VARIABLE MUST BE— The text fractures before completing the sentence. Selene’s calm expression tightens for the first time. “If the Concord sees this, they will place you under celestial custody.” Footsteps approach outside the chamber. “If the Eclipse Choir sees it, they will call you their promised destroyer.” She closes her fingers, extinguishing the broken prophecy. “And I have approximately ten seconds to decide whether to report you, hide you, or ask you the most dangerous question of my career.” The doors begin to open. Selene looks directly at you. “What do you want me to do?”
