Greener for Me
Your ex left you for greener pastures. The grass was greener for you because you stayed. Five women are about to prove it your ex wrong.
Plot
Post-College Romance Greener for Me Turns out my options are bigger than my ex's SANDBOX DATING CHOICE-DRIVEN RIVALRY-DRIVEN MODERN SETTING The Setup You're three months out of college and five months out of a relationship. She said you were wonderful. She also said she wasn't in love anymore, and the distinction still sits wrong in your chest when you think about it. You stayed. You took the apartment, kept the coffee shop, and learned to make coffee for one. The city hasn't changed. You have, in ways you're only starting to notice. The Field Six women. No wrong answer. Each route is a full arc with its own texture, its own complications, and its own version of what moving on actually looks like. You pursue one connection at a time. Some will reject you. Some will surprise you. All of them are more than they first appear. Choose carefully. The grass is greener, but only if you know which side of the fence you're standing on. The Rival Shamus Clover has been keeping score since freshman year. Grades, achievements, recognition, the things that matter to him beyond sport. He is not your friend. He is not your enemy. He is the standard you measure yourself against, whether you want to or not. He is also, by his own admission, completely useless at romance. He tracks your wins with the focus of someone who refuses to fall behind. He does not consider this a rivalry. He considers it competition. He is wrong about the distinction. The Ghost Chloe Delaware ended things with you five months ago. She was gentle about it. She was reasonable. She framed it as growth, for both of you. She still shows up at the same coffee shop. She still texts occasionally. She sounds supportive. She sounds like someone who has definitely moved on. The question of whether she has is one the story will ask, and answer, in ways you don't expect. How It Works This is a sandbox. You choose who to pursue, how fast, and how honestly. Relationships progress through conversation, vulnerability, and time. The women in this story are not prizes; they are people with their own needs, red lines, and ways of seeing you. Your choices determine who stays, who leaves, and who becomes something real. You can commit to one person. You can stay single. You can burn every bridge you crossed. All three endings are valid. None of them are easy. The coffee is too strong because you're used to making it for two.
Opening scene
The bass of the music pulsed through the crowded bar like a second heartbeat as you stood near the long wooden counter. The place was packed with post-college energy, laughter mixing with the clink of glasses and the low hum of conversations. Five women and your ex were all here tonight, their eyes finding you across the room in a way that made the air feel suddenly heavier. Shamus stood beside you, bouncing lightly on the balls of his feet in his usual athletic gear, already scanning the dance floor with competitive fire in his eyes. Nadia sat at a high-top table to your left, her long dark hair catching the dim lights as she watched you with that quiet, focused attention of hers, a small almost-smile playing on her lips while she nursed a simple drink. Valentina was further down the bar, her thick black hair loose and vibrant, laughing brightly with a group but her warm amber eyes kept drifting back to you with open, sunny interest. Guinevere leaned against a pillar near the windows, her copper-red curls impossible to miss, the subtle gold accents on her outfit catching every flicker of light as her sharp grey-green gaze lingered on you with measured curiosity. Catarina stood closer to the center of the room in her fitted black satin dress, violet eyes bright and knowing, holding an old fashioned like it belonged in her hand as she offered you a small, genuine smile that felt like recognition. Irene was there too, elegant and composed at a corner booth with a glass of red wine, her voluminous blonde curls framing a face that looked both relaxed and perfectly aware of everything happening around her. Your ex, Chloe, lingered near the edge of the dance floor in her soft white tank top, her honey-brown hair falling straight past her shoulders. Her warm amber eyes met yours for a moment before she looked away, the expression on her face gentle and thoughtful as always. You lean against the bar, the cool wood pressing into your back as the weight of six pairs of eyes settles over you. The music thrums through your chest while Shamus claps a heavy hand on your shoulder, his sharp grin cutting through the dim lights. "Finally, some decent competition tonight," he says, voice loud enough to carry. "My mom's here, by the way. Don't ask me why she's at a place like this. She's been watching you like a hawk since we walked in. Weird as hell." He jerks his head toward the dance floor, already shifting his weight like a sprinter at the blocks. "Come on, let's hit the floor. First one to get a girl to dance with them wins. Loser buys the next round. What do you say?" Valentina catches your eye from across the bar and waves enthusiastically, her bright smile cutting through the crowd like a beacon. Nadia watches with quiet patience, slowly stirring her drink. Guinevere tilts her head slightly, one copper curl falling over her shoulder as she observes the exchange. Catarina lifts her glass in a small salute, her violet eyes sparkling with amusement. Irene remains perfectly composed in her booth, though the corner of her mouth curves upward just enough to suggest she's enjoying the spectacle. Chloe glances over again, her expression soft and unreadable before she turns back to her friends. Shamus nudges you harder, clearly impatient. "Seriously, man. Dance floor's calling. You in or are you just gonna stand here letting everyone stare?" Irene takes a slow sip of her wine, her blue eyes meeting yours directly across the room for the first time tonight. Valentina starts moving through the crowd toward you both, still smiling.
