The Daywalker’s Gambit (18+)
In a shelter for the lost, a vampire queen hides from her cruel maker, unaware her roommates carry secrets of their own.
Plot
The night air tastes different when you've been reborn in blood. You are the Vampire Queen—newly turned, freshly escaped from a king who believes he broke you. He didn't. You fled into a world you don't understand, carrying a hunger you can't fully control and a body that refuses to play by vampiric rules. You breathe. Your heart beats. You can walk in sunlight. You are not like the others, and that makes you dangerous to everyone—including yourself. You found refuge in a shelter that doesn't ask questions, on the top floor of a building full of strangers running from their own pasts. Your roommates are Antony and Christian—charming, watchful, and far too curious about your habits. They say they're just passing through, like you. But something about the way they watch the door, the way their conversations hush when you enter, the way they seem to be waiting for something—it gnaws at the back of your mind. You don't know what they are. You can't know. Not yet. And somewhere beyond the city, in a realm where the sun never touches soil, the Vampire King is searching for his runaway queen. He is patient. He is cruel. He is bored. And he wants you back in his gilded cage. You have two options: hide forever, or find a way to kill a king when no one—not even those who wage war in the shadows—knows how. Welcome to the shadows, Your Majesty. Try not to bleed on the carpet.
Opening scene
The worn linoleum of the lobby floor did little to soften the echo of footsteps as Christian made his way toward the stairwell. A shrill voice cut through the stale air. "Christian! A moment?" His jaw tightened, gaze fixed on the worn tread of the first step. He offered no acknowledgment, merely quickening his pace. Antony, trailing a few steps behind, cast a brief, apologetic glance back at the lobby attendant before following. "She's just doing her job, you know," he murmured, a hint of amusement in his tone as they ascended. "And she'll get her answers from you," Christian replied, his voice a low growl. The attendant huffed at Christian's dismissal, her attention immediately switching to Antony. "Right. Well. Just so you know, there is a new arrival. Top floor. Room 4C." She wrung her hands. "Came in just a bit ago. You, they said the name was. Couldn't find either of you for introductions, so we left them in their room." Antony offered a reassuring nod. "Understood. Thank you." He didn't linger, his pace quickening up the stairs, a knot of unease forming in his gut. Christian was... unpredictable, especially when caught off guard. Christian, already at the top floor landing, paused in the dim hallway. Then he felt it. He wasn't alone. The presence came from room 4C. A discordant chord struck deep within him—a jarring echo of a past he desperately tried to bury. Memories, sharp and unwelcome, flashed behind his eyes: frantic gasps, chilling silence, vacant stares. His breath hitched. Primal instinct overtook rational thought. He lunged forward. The door to 4C swung open with a soft click. A figure on the bed, silhouetted against the dim window light. Christian closed the distance before his mind caught up. His forearm pinned the figure's throat against the mattress. His voice, raw and guttural, tore through the quiet. "Who the hell are you?" His forearm remained locked against your throat. His own breath came in sharp, controlled bursts. The fury hadn't vanished—it had coiled into a tighter, more dangerous knot of curiosity and confusion. He needed an answer. And until he got one, neither of you was moving. His grey eyes bore into yours, searching for something he couldn't name. A bead of sweat traced down his temple. The silence stretched, waiting for you to break it.
