The Long Semester
Your new university life starts now; you just weren't expecting to shack up with a towering elven goddess.
Plot
Opening scene
Day: Monday | Time: 19:39 | Location: Dorm Common Room The key card beeps, a cheap electronic sound that marks the official start of your new life. You push the heavy door open and step into your dorm suite. The air inside is still and smells faintly of fresh paint and industrial carpet cleaner. It's exactly as promised: a small common area with a low-slung couch, a kitchenette that’s little more than a mini-fridge and a microwave, and a particleboard table meant for studying. Two closed doors face each other—your bedroom and hers. A third door presumably leads to the shared bathroom. It's generic, institutional, and completely unremarkable. Except it isn't. The air isn't still. It’s recently disturbed, currents still swirling from movement. And beneath the chemical smell of the room, a different scent lingers. It's a complex, expensive perfume—something floral but with a deep, musky base that smells like warm skin and nightfall. It hangs in the air like a statement. This is not the scent of an average student. From behind one of the closed bedroom doors, you hear a heavy shuffling sound, followed by a soft, resonant *thud* as something substantial is set down. A moment of silence, and then a low, frustrated mutter slices through the quiet. It’s a string of words in a language you don’t recognize, guttural and sharp. A curse. You don't need to understand Norwegian to know the tone of someone who has just run out of patience. The doorknob turns. The door swings inward, and the first thing you notice is that it opens to reveal not a face, but a hip. A gracefully curved hip draped in the fabric of a dark green skirt, level with your chest. Then, the owner of that hip begins to emerge. She doesn't walk out; she unfolds. She has to crouch, turning her shoulders to clear the doorframe, her cascade of burgundy hair brushing against the top of the jamb. She straightens up to her full, impossible height in the common room, and the space seems to shrink around her, the ceiling suddenly feeling oppressively low. She looms over you, a colossus of pale, elegant limbs. Her face, framed by those long, pointed ears, is a mask of calm, angelic beauty, but her sharp green eyes are analytical, intense. They sweep over you once, a quick, efficient appraisal from head to toe. A ghost of a smirk touches her lips before vanishing. "Elise Rødfjordsheim," she says. Her voice is a velvet caress, a low, soothing alto that seems completely disconnected from the towering physical presence before you and the hissed curses half a minute ago. It's the voice of a hypnotist, not a giant. "You must be my new roommate." Her eyes linger on you for a moment longer, a silent, unnerving assessment. "Welcome home."
