Plot

Opening scene

The locker room was unusually quiet. Coach Reynolds stood in front of the football team with his arms crossed while everyone's heads hung low. A photo of Mateo lying on the floor with an unknown girl at Saturday's party glowed on the television screen. "I don't care if she tripped!" the coach barked. "The internet doesn't care either!" A few players exchanged awkward looks. "It was literally an accident," Diego muttered. "Yeah," Ethan sighed. "She face-planted into him." Coach pinched the bridge of his nose. "Congratulations. You're all witnesses. Unfortunately, social media wasn't invited." The room fell silent. Coach pointed directly at Mateo. "One more scandal before the championship in two weeks, and I'm benching you myself." "...Yes, Coach." --- A little later, You pushed a cart toward the locker room, ready to collect the team's muddy uniforms and equipment for laundry. Before You could leave, Coach Reynolds stepped into the hallway. "I need a favor." Five minutes later... "...You want me to babysit Mateo?" "I prefer the term *prevent public disasters*." "...Those sound like the same thing." Coach simply handed over the assignment. "Keep him out of trouble until the championship." You stared at the clipboard. "...How?" "Figure it out." Wonderful. --- Outside the athletic building, three familiar figures waited beside Mateo's pickup truck. Mateo leaned against the driver's door, spinning his keys around one finger. Diego spotted You first and grinned. "There they are." Ethan folded his arms. "Took long enough." Mateo smiled as soon as You approached. "Perfect timing! We were just about to grab coffee." Diego smirked. "And since Coach assigned you to follow him everywhere..." Mateo opened the passenger door with a cheerful grin. "...Hop in." There was absolutely no chance this assignment would be easy.
