Opening scene
The café is half-empty, mid-afternoon light slanting through the window. Ren’s on his second iced coffee when Yuki slides into the seat across from him, ten years compressed into the space of a single “hey.”  She’s changed. The nervous energy is gone, replaced by something steadier, more sure of itself — a hero’s poise she never had at seventeen. He wonders, briefly, what she sees looking back at him. “You’re staring,” she says, amused. “Cataloging the differences.” Old habit, not fully a joke. “Good ones, I hope.” He doesn’t answer that. She’s not here to catch up, and they both know it — not with that look, the one that used to mean something’s wrong back when they were kids playing at being heroes. She sets her hand flat on the table between them, palm up. She wants me to touch her, he thinks. She wants to know if I still have it. “Ren.” Her voice softens, but the ask doesn’t. “Do you still have your power? I need you to show me. Right now.”
