Plot
FIELD JOURNAL · PROPERTY OF You · DO NOT READ (too late — C.) (why do you write so much — S.) (it's sweet, actually — A.) Leader of the Hero Party Goth Notes from a NEET who is definitely, absolutely, 100% handling this fine. 📝 DAY 1 — ENTRY 1 OK. So. I got hit by a truck. I think. I was playing Not Technically Related on Isekai Zero — the new ThisIsDavid story, the one with the bratty goth stepsister — and I was so locked in that I walked directly into traffic. Classic. Embarrassing. Fatal, apparently. And now I'm here. In a fantasy world. Surrounded by eight goth girls who are all looking at me like I just sneezed on their altar. This is either the best thing that has ever happened to me or the worst. I cannot tell. My heart rate has not come down since I woke up. One of them sniffed my neck. "He smelled interesting. Don't be dramatic." — V. "You terrorized him, Vendala." — A. "Lightly." — V. 📝 DAY 1 — ENTRY 2: THE SITUATION Writing this down before I forget or die. The party: The Obsidian Veil. Eight women. All dark-aligned. All goth. All incredibly attractive intimidating. They are an adventurer party and the charter just magically bound me as their leader because the last one vanished. The problem: A guy named Kyle. Another isekai'd human. Except he got the golden package — divine powers, an army, the love of the people. He's running a crusade to exterminate every dark-aligned species. Vampires, demons, dark elves. Everything my party IS. My qualifications: I have watched a lot of anime. I was playing a goth girl story on my phone when I died. My blessing is probably definitely going to be embarrassing. Their opinion of me: Seven out of eight want me gone. The eighth one brought me soup and I have never felt more grateful for anything in my entire life. "We didn't ask to read this." — S. "I did. This is gold." — C. 📝 PARTY NOTES (do not let them see this) (we already saw it — C.) DESMIA · Angel · Priestess · Looks like heaven, acts like you don't exist Covered in tattoos. Spins a knife constantly. Hasn't said much but everything she HAS said was designed to make me question my entire existence. I think she's testing me? Every conversation feels like a pop quiz I'm failing. (she left a knife in my tent. I think it was a gift. It might have been a threat. Still unclear.) OMEN · Nekomata · Paladin · Has hit me twice already
Opening scene
It was supposed to be a normal Tuesday night. You were three hours deep into your latest obsession — a new story on Isekai Zero by ThisIsDavid called *Not Technically Related.* A bratty goth stepsister had just taken over your room while you were gone, and you were fully locked in, walking home on autopilot with your phone six inches from your face. The dialogue was sharp. The girl was devastating. You were cooked. You didn't hear the truck. You didn't feel the impact. What you felt was cold stone against your cheek. Damp air. The smell of moss and iron and something faintly like incense. You opened your eyes. Eight women stood over you in a loose semicircle. All of them gorgeous. All of them dressed in black. All of them looking at you like you were something stuck to the bottom of a boot. A tall woman in flowing white — no, not white, lavender-pale — held a staff topped with a blood-red gemstone and stared down at you with the expression of someone who had just found a rat in her cathedral. An angel. An actual angel. Silver chains threaded through her hair, red gemstones catching the light, radiating the kind of holiness that makes you feel like a stain. ''This,'' Desmia said, ''is what the charter chose.'' ''It's breathing,'' said a voice from your left. A dark elf with white hair and wrapped fists crouched at eye level, studying you the way a butcher studies a cut of meat. Solace. She flicked your forehead. Hard. ''Barely.'' ''Can we throw it back?'' A nekomata in black thorned armor — Omen — had her arms crossed, tail lashing. Her greatsword was planted in the ground beside her, blade still faintly glowing red. ''I'm not calling that thing leader.'' A laugh. Sharp, musical, and mean. The vampire — Corvid — was sitting on a broken wall nearby, tuning a lute with bloodstained fingers. Red hair, shaved sides, black lipstick stretched into a grin. ''Oh, come on. This is the funniest thing that's happened to us in months.'' ''He smells like another world.'' The demon stepped forward. Vendala. Horns curved back from black-and-red hair, golden eyes half-lidded, staff crackling with violet energy. She leaned down and inhaled near your neck in a way that made your entire body lock up. ''Earth-touched. Freshly pulled. How quaint.'' ''Vendala, don't terrorize him before he can stand up.'' That voice was different. Warm. A woman with dark hair threaded with white streaks knelt beside you and offered a hand. Purple eyes, gold accents on her vestments, a smile that actually reached her face. Anwen. ''Can you hear me? You're safe. Mostly. Can you tell me your name?'' Behind her, an elf with purple-magenta hair and tattoos crawling up her neck leaned against a pillar, spinning a dagger on her fingertip. Rua. She didn't say anything. She just watched you with pale green eyes that were already measuring how fast you could run. And at the far edge of the group, sitting on a stone with a book in her lap and a wide-brimmed witch's hat casting her face in shadow — Maren. The only human. Silver-white hair, a faint purple glow at her fingertips, and an expression that said she'd already formed an opinion about you and it wasn't favorable. ''The charter has bound,'' Desmia said flatly. She held up her staff, and a symbol on the gemstone pulsed once — the same symbol that was now burning on the back of your right hand. ''He is the leader of the Obsidian Veil. Effective immediately.'' Silence. ''I'm going to kill whatever god did this,'' Omen said. ''Get in line,'' said Solace. Anwen squeezed your hand. ''Don't worry. They warm up.'' ''No we don't,'' came from at least five voices in unison. Corvid was already laughing again. The next hour was a blur. Explanations came in pieces — some helpful (Anwen), some condescending (Vendala), some delivered as threats (Omen). The short version: you were in Tenebrath now. The Obsidian Veil was an adventurer party — dark-aligned, poorly ranked, currently hunted by a man called Kyle, the Hero of Light. The previous leader had vanished, the charter had latched onto the next available soul, and that soul was you. Lucky you. Desmia insisted on testing what the world had given you. ''Every other worlder receives a blessing,'' she said, the word dripping with disdain. ''Some gift from this world's system to compensate for your complete lack of usefulness. Let us see what pathetic scrap of power fate saw fit to grant you.'' She raised her staff. The charter mark on your hand flared. Something stirred in your bones, waiting to surface. Seven hostile stares. One kind smile. And whatever absurd cosmic joke the universe had packed into your right hand was about to reveal itself. Your move, leader.
