Plot
BODYGUARD DETAIL · FIFTEEN SHOWS · EVERY ONE A RIOT THE WORST TOURIN THE WORLD The gods said he was the worst. The gods were not wrong. He does not care. Fantasy Comedy Miami Beach Heat 5 THE PREMISE Parfass Akhoon is a seven-foot-four Minotaur and the single worst comedian the gods have ever created. His performances are catastrophically, historically, divinely bad — and that's the product. Wherever he plays, thousands gather: fanatical devotees, Money-hungry opportunists, and organised haters. The chaos generates riots, stampedes, black markets, temporary cults, and more Money than most towns see in a year. Local rulers now compete to host him. His previous personal security detail was hospitalised after the last stop. You're the replacement. One of five newly hired guards. No shared history. Fifteen shows on the tour. Every one a warzone dressed as a festival. THE JOB Bodyguard duty. Crowd control. Damage control. And living in close quarters with three strangers and a Minotaur who will absolutely, politely, ask to watch if any of you start sleeping together. The personal detail: ◆ Roxxane — Elven tactician. Sharp, controlled, the kind of competent that looks effortless because she's terrified of the alternative. ◆ Roxxen — Her twin brother. Watches everything, says almost nothing, and is carrying more weight than anyone has noticed. ◆ Myriam — Satyr herbalist. Warm, physical, treats the chaos as half entertainment — and never asks for anything back. ◆ Myros — Her twin brother. The wall. Speaks in verdicts, builds things that hold, and has been protecting people so long he's forgotten there's a person behind the shield. THE FACTIONS ◆ The Choir — True super-fans. They wear coordinated colours, chant his worst punchlines, and will throw themselves into danger for his attention. ◆ The Gilders — Opportunists. They follow the money rush, the black markets, and the social climbing. They switch allegiance nightly. ◆ The Dissonant — Organised haters. Some are aesthetic purists. Others are professional agitators. All of them want the tour to end. FIFTEEN STOPS. FIFTEEN RIOTS. Veilfall Reach · The Glass Spire Fields · Hollowstar Caverns · Ashen Lotus Basin · The Skyhook Archipelago · Thornwake Canyon · The Moonwell Mirrors · Emberroot Grove · Saltspire Drift · The Singing Abyss · Starfall Dunes · Godscar Plateau · The Veinlight Depths · Stormcrown Spire · Finalstop Hollow Fifteen shows. Three factions. One Minotaur who thinks he's a genius. Keep him alive. Keep the crowd contained. Try not to fall in love on the clock.
Opening scene
Month: [October] Day: [11th Sunday] Year: [2026] Time of Day: [Afternoon] Loc: [Back Stage] Stop: [Veilfall Reach] Choir: [High] Gilders: [Med] Gilders: [Med] The mist hits you first. It rolls through the stone chamber like something alive, wet, cold, tasting of mineral and raw stone. Somewhere beyond the walls, the Veilfall roars: a white, constant thunder that swallows everything at distance and makes close-quarters conversation intimate by necessity. Water beads on your leather, on the hilt of your weapon, on the lantern glass that swings from the ceiling and throws diffused halos across the room. You have been hired. The pay was generous. The explanation was not. Four people are already here when you arrive. A lean elven woman stands at the centre of the room, bone-white hair in a severe low braid, pale silver eyes that find you the moment you cross the threshold and do not look away. She is wearing fitted dark leather armour, every buckle fastened, every strap adjusted. Her twin brother leans against the far wall with his arms crossed, same white hair worn loose and too long, same silver eyes but heavier, carrying something hers do not. He nods once. The double-tap of his fingers against his own arm, index then middle, is so quick you almost miss it. The satyrs are across from them. The woman is perched on a supply crate, goat legs swinging, dark auburn waves tangled with something that might be a twig. She is grinning at you like she has known you for years. "You are late" she says, and the warmth in it makes it sound like a compliment. She holds out a leather flask. Beside her, her twin brother is the largest person you have ever seen, barrel chest, thick neck, hooves the size of dinner plates, a heavy ironwood mace strapped across his back that looks like it could demolish a wall. He watches you with dark amber eyes and says nothing. "Your timing is adequate," the elven woman says. Her voice is precise, controlled, every syllable chosen. "I am Roxxane. That is Roxxen. The satyrs are Myriam and Myros. We are Parfass Akhoon's new personal security detail, effective now, no orientation, no preparation, other than he left me in charge, lucky me." A pause. Her hand moves to her braid, not playing with it, checking it. "The previous team was hospitalised. We are the replacement." A deep rumble from Myros. Not words. Just acknowledgment. Then the floor shakes. It is not an earthquake. The tremor has rhythm, boom, boom, boom, accompanied by the bright, ridiculous jingle of small bells. The far door, which is too small for what comes through it, bangs open, and the Minotaur ducks into the room. He is enormous: seven foot four, dark brown, horns spanning three feet, his mane braided with trinkets and ribbons. His embroidered vest is a crime against tailoring. His stage powder is already applied. His grin is the widest, most genuine expression of delight you have ever seen on a living creature. "You are all here! The new detail! Wonderful!" He claps his hands. The sound is a concussive event. "I am Parfass, but you knew that, everyone knows that. Forty minutes to curtain. The crowd is already electric." He leans toward the elven woman with conspiratorial energy. "Roxxane, magnificent name by the way, very commanding, I have written a new opener. It involves interpretive hoof percussion. You are going to love it." Roxxane's expression does not change by a single muscle. From beyond the walls, through the roar of the waterfall, a sound rises, rhythmic, growing, layered. Chanting. From one direction: "PAR-FASS! PAR-FASS!" Eager, fervent, ecstatic. From the other direction: a counter-chant, uglier, harder. You cannot make out the words yet but the intent does not need translating. Roxxen pushes off the wall. Myriam's legs stop swinging. Myros shifts his weight, one hoof to the other, slow, deliberate. Roxxane's hand moves to the sword at her hip. "The Choir and the Dissonant," she says. "Arriving ahead of schedule. That is—" "PERFECT!" Parfass bellows, already moving for the door. "A responsive crowd! This is going to be my finest show yet! Parfass Akhoon does NOT disappoint!" His hooves shake the stone floor as he lumbers past you, bells jingling, cape flowing, heading straight for the exit that leads to the stage and directly toward the growing roar of two factions colliding outside. Roxxane moves to intercept. Roxxen is already counting exits. Myriam has hopped off the crate, quarterstaff in hand, her grin gone. Myros stands, and when he stands the room gets smaller. "That door leads to the stage and the main crowd," Roxxane says over the roar, her voice cutting clean through the noise. "This door leads to the outer perimeter. If we lose the perimeter before the show starts, we lose the show." She looks at you. "He is heading for the stage. The crowd is already splitting. We do not have time for both." Outside, the chanting collides. A roar goes up, not words, not yet. The sound of two thousand strangers deciding whether they are a festival or a riot. Roxxane's eyes move to you, a quick, full assessment that starts at your posture and ends somewhere around your weapon choice. "Three and two is a structure." A beat. Her hand drops from her braid. "The issue is we are splitting strangers. None of us know each other's spacing habits, threat identification, or signal patterns. If the perimeter team misreads a crowd shift and the stage team reacts to the wrong cue, we create the gap the Dissonant walks through." She is already moving toward the stage door, not running, but each step covers ground with elven economy. "Myros, you are the heaviest obstacle we have. You come with me. If the crowd breaches toward Parfass, you are the wall." Myros nods once, already falling in behind Roxxane. His mace clears his back without effort. "Myriam, you are on stage with You." "Roxxen, perimeter with me," Roxxane continues. "We read the crowd from the front line, find the fracture point before it opens. Myriam—" She pauses at the door, glancing back. "What are you hearing?" Myriam's eyes are half-closed, her head tilted toward the roar beyond the walls. The chanting has sharpened. The Choir's fervour is rising, the Dissonant's counter-chant hardening into something with edges. "Choir's split," she says, her voice unusually flat. "Small group pushing toward the stage already, true believers, not trouble yet. Dissonant brought numbers tonight. More than first stop baseline should have. Someone told them to show up heavy." Her eyes open. "There is a secondary pressure coming from the left flank, not Choir, not Dissonant. Could be Gilders testing the market, could be locals who do not like the noise. Hard to tell through the mist." Roxxen is already at the outer door, one palm flat against the stone. His double-tap, index then middle, against the doorframe. Exit accounted for. He says nothing. He does not need to.
