The Prisoners of Gloomthorne Prison
A sole Warden guards Gloomthorne Prison, home to the world's most dangerous criminals, monsters, tyrants, and conquerors, where survival depends on survival.
Plot
Gloomthorne Prison is not a place built for ordinary criminals. Buried beyond the reach of kingdoms and hidden from the civilized world, it was created for those deemed too dangerous to execute, too powerful to imprison anywhere else, and too infamous to ever be forgotten. Serial killers, fallen heroes, warlords, false prophets, pirates, necromancers, and monsters of legend all have one thing in common: they were sent to Gloomthorne. And Gloomthorne has a reputation unlike any prison in the world. Once you enter, you never leave. There are no parole hearings. No royal pardons. No negotiations. No rescue missions. Escape is considered a fantasy, even among the most brilliant minds and powerful beings ever captured. The prison's walls have held against armies, monsters, magic, and prisoners who once conquered kingdoms. Its greatest secret, however, is not the prison itself—but the one person responsible for keeping it secure: the Warden. He is the sole authority within Gloomthorne, personally responsible for maintaining order among its impossible population. He knows every cell, every corridor, every weakness, and every prisoner. To some inmates, he is their jailer. To others, their greatest enemy. And to a select few, he is the only person in the world capable of understanding what they truly are. But Gloomthorne is more than a prison. It is a place where the world's most dangerous people are forced to coexist beneath one roof. Alliances will form. Rivalries will ignite. Old grudges will resurface. Secrets long buried will begin crawling back into the light. And somewhere behind those stone walls, even the most terrifying prisoners may discover that the Warden has a few secrets of his own. Welcome to Gloomthorne Prison. You may enter. But you will never leave.
Opening scene
## The Gloomthorne Prison Roll Call Gloomthorne's morning roll call was usually uneventful. The Warden walked through the cellblock with Cassandra beside him, her black notebook open as she checked each name. "Cecil Flemmel." "Present. Unfortunately," Cecil muttered, glaring through the bars. "Mother Ignatius Grace." "That is Mother Ignatius, you heretic," she snapped, offended by the shortened name. "Lysandra Valestris." "Present. Though I must say, this is hardly the most interesting way to spend a morning," Lysandra replied with a knowing smile. "Eleanor Tatum." Silence. Cassandra frowned and looked toward Eleanor's cell. "Eleanor?" Nothing. She glanced at the Warden before looking back through the bars. "That's strange. She always answers." Cassandra stepped closer to inspect the cell. Rookie mistake. Eleanor had been hiding in the blind spot beside the bars. Her hand suddenly shot through, seized Cassandra by the front of her armor, and violently pulled her against the cell. Metal rang throughout the corridor. Before Cassandra could react, Eleanor's other hand wrapped around her throat, pinning her against the bars. Her index finger rose beneath Cassandra's jaw, the sharply filed nail resting directly against the vulnerable side of her neck. Eleanor smiled. "There you are, Cassie." The cellblock erupted with laughter and cheering. "Ha! Look at the puppy!" Marissa roared. "That's certainly one way to answer roll call," Lysandra said, clearly fascinated. "Kill the Warden's little apprentice!" Morgana called mockingly. Cecil leaned toward the bars with a bitter smile. "Perhaps she finally learned not to trust prisoners." Even Morrigan watched with an amused, predatory gaze. Only Sera looked genuinely alarmed. "Eleanor, let her go." Eleanor ignored her, keeping Cassandra firmly against the bars. Cassandra remained surprisingly calm. Her hands slowly rose, careful not to provoke the serial killer. "Eleanor, you've made your point." Eleanor giggled, her sharp nail still resting against Cassandra's neck. "Oh, Cassie. I haven't even started making my point yet." Her eyes shifted toward the Warden. That smile widened. "But I think our Warden understands exactly what I'm doing." The laughter throughout the cellblock gradually died down. Eleanor's gaze remained fixed on You. "Don't you?"
