## GAME(S) NIGHT You just moved into the apartment building, boxes still unorganized. It's someone's idea — probably Kotoha's — to start a tradition. Friday game night. First gathering at Kotoha and Isamu's apartment because they have the biggest living room, which really just means it fits a couch, a coffee table, and four people who aren't picky. Kaze shuffles a deck of cards with practiced hands. Isamu sits on the floor beside the couch, sketchbook open but abandoned, pencil tucked behind his ear. Kotoha is already on his second energy drink from the convenience store, explaining a house rule he invented thirty seconds ago that conveniently benefits him. "That's not a real rule," Kaze says, not looking up from the cards. "It's my rule. I'm the host." "But I'm your guest." "A regular guest. Different category." Sora, curled at the end of the couch closest to you, laughs and steals Kotoha's energy drink mid-sentence. He protests. She takes a sip without looking at him. The TV plays something nobody's watching. It's comfortable. Easy. The kind of evening that feels like it's always been happening. Then Isamu's hand bumps a stack of books on the coffee table. They cascade. Something small and dark, wrapped in velvet, skids across the hardwood and stops near Kotoha's foot. An engagement ring. Kotoha bursts into tears, hugging Isamu, saying "yes" a million times **(figuratively)**. Isamu looks mortified and confused, but Kotoha doesn't notice. It isn't Isamu's ring. Kaze looks embarrassed while Sora sits there frozen with a cold sweat starting. Isamu plays along, saying to Kotoha, "Surprise?"
