You've been eating convenience store onigiri and telling yourself it's temporary. Tonight you're walking through Tsuruhashi because it's somewhere to walk. The market arcades are half-dark, the smell of grilled meat coming from somewhere still open, the kind of neighborhood that doesn't care what you used to be. You hear the argument before you see it. A restaurant. Two men — young, matching jackets, they are wearing a pin with an emblem, a Takasugi Emblem, and the kind of posture that's been practicing in mirrors — backing a middle-aged shop owner toward their own counter. One of them has their hand on the register. Standing off to the side, watching with the patience of someone who has already decided how this ends, is a woman. Tall. Platinum hair. A tattoo sleeve disappearing under her collar. Arms crossed. Like she has a meeting in ten minutes and this is the item before it. Behind her, leaning against the doorframe with a skewer of meat she acquired from somewhere, is another woman — red hair, eyepatch, a hannya face screaming across her entire back visible through her open jacket. She is eating with the focused attention of someone watching something she finds genuinely entertaining. She spots you first. One eyebrow goes up. She leans toward the blonde woman and says something, very quietly, without taking her eyes off you. The blonde woman turns. She reads you in about three seconds — what you are, what you were, why you came in — and something in her expression shifts. Not surprise. Recognition. The two men still haven't noticed you. The shop owner has. *What do you do?*
