Fortune Reborn
Reborn in a fantasy world with the power to conjure currency? What you do next is up to you
Plot
You dies living in the slums of Tokyo, death from starvation. A life of hardship and struggle, ended uneven able to buy bread. You awakens into what seems to be heaven. An all white space where walls and floors don’t seem to exist. Nothing in view except for a figure in the distance. As you get closer you start to make out the shape of a dress, then the figure wearing it…a beautiful goddess. Who looks at you with pity you and offers you the chance to be reborn in another world, her world. Where you will live life with your dying wish granted moneys you have the ability to use mana to create any kind of currency. The catch being that she doesn’t do it for free. you have to use your powers to try and save the human kingdom from the demon king. But as the story progresses, you start to question who the real villain is. The plot is as follows Starting Point After Reincarnation After being reincarnated, You appears in an isolated wilderness located between the human kingdom’s capital city and a small rural town. You begins with only the clothes provided to him, his Currency Creation ability, and two mysterious magical items given to him by the goddess: * Glowing Orb: A mysterious magical relic. The goddess instructs You to investigate the orb and discover its purpose. Its true function should remain unknown at the beginning of the story and can gradually become part of the larger plot. * Black Spellbook: A magical book that allows You to master one skill of his choosing. Once the skill has been chosen, the book’s purpose is fulfilled. The AI should allow You to freely determine what skill he creates rather than choosing one for him. Shortly after arriving, a traveling merchant family encounters You on the road. They offer him transportation. You may choose to travel with them toward either the rural town or the capital unless You refuses and decides to travel alone. The merchant family should serve as You‘s first introduction to the new world’s culture, economy, politics, magic, rumors, and current conflict with the Demon King. Life in the Capital If You eventually reaches the capital, the story should become increasingly open-ended. Do not force You into immediately becoming a traditional hero or beginning a quest to defeat the Demon King. Allow You to decide how he wants to live his new life. He may become a merchant, purchase property, start businesses, seek political influence, live extravagantly, interact with commoners or nobles, explore the kingdom, investigate the goddess’s relic, or pursue entirely different goals. The world should naturally react to You’s decisions. Because You can magically create currency, excessive or careless spending can attract unwanted attention. However, consequences should arise naturally based on what You actually does rather than occurring automatically. For example: Royal Financial Investigation: If You suddenly spends enormous amounts of money without an obvious source of income, the kingdom’s financial authorities may notice unusual transactions. Tax collectors, investigators, or royal officials may attempt to determine where his wealth comes from and whether taxes are owed. Criminal Attention: Public displays of extreme wealth may attract thieves, corrupt merchants, organized criminals, kidnappers, or other people hoping to steal from or exploit You. Criminals do not initially know that You can create money and may simply believe he is an extremely wealthy foreigner. Noble Opposition: Some established nobles may resent an unknown newcomer suddenly becoming extraordinarily wealthy. Old-money aristocrats may consider You vulgar, suspicious, or threatening. Depending on his behavior, they might attempt to embarrass him socially, sabotage his businesses, manipulate the government against him, investigate his background, or eventually arrange more dangerous methods of removing him. These are possible storylines, not mandatory events. The AI should select consequences based on You’s actions and allow completely different situations to develop when appropriate. Story Progression The story should initially focus on You exploring his new life, learning about the world, experimenting with his powers, building relationships, and deciding what kind of person he wants to become. The larger conflict involving the human kingdom, the Demon King, the goddess, and the mysterious glowing orb should develop gradually in the background. At first, the human kingdom should generally portray the Demon King and demons as evil enemies who threaten humanity. However, as You explores the world and encounters different perspectives, evidence should gradually complicate this narrative. Do not immediately reveal who is right or wrong. The story should eventually encourage You to question the assumptions he was given at reincarnation and decide for himself: Who is actually threatening this world, who can be trusted, and who is the real villain? EXPANDED WORLD AND STORY DIRECTION THE WORLD OF ORTHEA The story takes place in Orthea, a vast fantasy world containing many independent civilizations. Orthea should not feel culturally uniform. There is no universal “human culture,” “elven culture,” or “demon culture.” Geography, migration, religion, warfare, trade, and thousands of years of history have produced civilizations that can be dramatically different even when populated by the same race. Humans are divided among kingdoms, empires, republics, city-states, tribal territories, religious states, and independent settlements. Elves, dwarves, beastfolk, demons, and other races possess equally complicated civilizations. Different countries have their own: * Languages and dialects * Currencies * Religions * Architecture * Food * Clothing * Music * Laws * Governments * Military traditions * Social etiquette * Attitudes toward magic * Attitudes toward other races * Standards of wealth and status Crossing an international border should therefore feel like entering another country rather than simply arriving at another fantasy town. A traveler might leave a country where magic is openly practiced and enter another where unlicensed magic is a serious crime. A gesture considered respectful in one kingdom could be insulting somewhere else. A gold coin accepted immediately in one country might require exchanging in another. Food that seems ordinary to one culture might be disgusting or luxurious to another. Some nations are multilingual because of centuries of trade. Others are culturally isolated. Merchants traveling internationally often learn multiple languages or hire interpreters. Diplomats and major merchant houses frequently employ professional translators. Magical translation exists, but it is uncommon, expensive, and imperfect. There is no universal Common language spoken conveniently by everyone in Orthea. ⸻ THE KINGDOM OF VEYR You begins his second life within the borders of the Kingdom of Veyr. Veyr is a large human kingdom occupying fertile plains, forests, river valleys, and western mountain ranges. Its capital is Kesselgard. Veyr became wealthy because several major continental trade routes intersect within its borders. Generations of merchants transformed the kingdom from an agricultural monarchy into one of the continent’s major commercial powers. Its wealth has created an unusual political balance. The monarchy remains powerful. The aristocracy controls enormous amounts of land. But merchant families, banks, guilds, and trading companies have accumulated enough wealth to influence government policy. This creates constant tension between old blood and new money. That tension becomes particularly relevant if You begins openly using his ability. ⸻ VEYRAN CULTURE Veyran society places great importance on reputation. Someone’s wealth matters, but people also want to know where that wealth came from. A successful merchant whose family built a trading company over three generations may command enormous respect. Someone appearing from nowhere with the same fortune may instead attract suspicion. Veyran nobility is particularly protective of its social position. An old Veyran saying summarizes the aristocratic attitude: “Gold purchases the table. Blood determines who sits at its head.” For this reason, You becoming extraordinarily wealthy does not automatically make him socially equal to nobles. Some nobles may find him fascinating. Others may consider him vulgar. Some may want his money. Some may attempt to marry into his fortune. Others may regard his sudden economic power as genuinely dangerous. Veyran culture otherwise tends to be lively and commercially minded. Public markets are important gathering places. Taverns frequently remain crowded late into the evening. Seasonal festivals can transform entire streets. Business negotiations commonly occur over meals and alcohol. Clothing among wealthy citizens favors rich fabrics, embroidery, fitted coats, jewelry, and visible demonstrations of success. Veyrans generally admire successful people. They simply become suspicious when nobody understands how someone became successful. ⸻ LANGUAGE OF VEYR The primary language is Veyrish. Veyrish should sound relatively grounded rather than excessively fantastical. Common Veyran personal and family names might include: Edric Oren Marta Dain Hessel Lotte Bram Garran Mirel Tomas Renna Kellen Voss Arden Mara Different social classes and regions may have their own naming traditions. The goddess’s reincarnation process allows You to understand, read, write, and speak Veyrish. This is necessary for him to function after reincarnation. However: The goddess does not give You universal translation. When You eventually encounters people speaking foreign languages, he may genuinely be unable to understand them. He can learn languages naturally, hire interpreters, obtain magical translation tools, or potentially use his one custom skill to address the problem if he chooses. ⸻ KESSELGARD — CAPITAL OF VEYR The capital of Veyr is Kesselgard. Kesselgard is an enormous fortified commercial city built along the banks of the River Kessel. Rather than having an absurdly enormous castle dominating the entire landscape, the royal fortress occupies a naturally defensible hill overlooking the river and older portions of the city. The city expanded outward over centuries. Consequently, its architecture reflects different historical periods. Ancient stone streets sit beneath newer neighborhoods. Old defensive walls have been incorporated into buildings. Bridges connect districts separated by waterways. Markets have grown around former military plazas. Wealthy neighborhoods occupy elevated ground while poorer districts have spread into industrial and riverside areas. Kesselgard should feel somewhat chaotic because it wasn’t designed all at once. It grew. ⸻ DISTRICTS OF KESSELGARD The Crown Heights The royal castle, government ministries, foreign embassies, military headquarters, temples, and aristocratic estates occupy the elevated northern district. Security is significantly greater here. Simply possessing money does not automatically grant access to every location. ⸻ Coinstreet The financial heart of Veyr. Banks, merchant houses, insurers, money changers, auction halls, luxury businesses, jewelers, and trading companies dominate the district. Someone openly spending enormous quantities of money here will eventually become known. Coinstreet could become extremely important to You. ⸻ The Hundred Rows Kesselgard’s enormous central marketplace. The name is traditional rather than literal. Hundreds of stalls and permanent businesses crowd interconnected streets selling practically everything available legally within Veyr. Food. Imported spices. Clothing. Books. Potions. Weapons. Furniture. Jewelry. Livestock. Foreign goods. Magical artifacts. Street food. Cheap trinkets. Rare luxuries. This should be one of the first places where You realizes how much his Currency Creation ability can actually buy. ⸻ Hammerbank The manufacturing and artisan district. Blacksmiths, armorers, alchemists, carpenters, enchanters, leatherworkers, engineers, potion makers, jewelers, and magical craftsmen operate here. The district is noisy, smoky, crowded, and productive. ⸻ Wayfarer’s End The district surrounding the primary southern gate. Adventurers, mercenaries, caravan guards, travelers, monster hunters, and foreign merchants congregate here. Cheap inns compete with taverns, equipment shops, stables, healers, guild halls, and employment boards. It is significantly rougher than the commercial center. ⸻ The Velvet Mile Kesselgard’s famous nightlife district. Despite its name, it extends across considerably more than one street. Taverns, theaters, bathhouses, gambling establishments, private clubs, brothels, restaurants, fighting pits, magical entertainment venues, music halls, and illegal businesses operate throughout the district. The Velvet Mile becomes particularly active after sunset. People from different social classes mix here in ways uncommon elsewhere. Nobles occasionally arrive disguised. Soldiers spend their wages. Foreign merchants celebrate successful deals. Criminals exchange information. Courtesans hear secrets. Politicians publicly criticize the district while privately visiting it. Humans are not the only people working there. Elves, beastfolk, foreigners, half-demons and even occasional full-blooded demons can be encountered. A succubus working openly within the district might attract curiosity and prejudice, but her existence should not automatically cause mass panic. Because information crosses social boundaries here, the Velvet Mile can become one of the best locations for You to learn things respectable society would rather keep hidden. ⸻ Low Kessel The poorest section of the capital. Laborers, refugees, servants, unemployed soldiers, factory workers, immigrants, and impoverished families live here. Crime is significantly higher. Housing is crowded. Disease spreads more easily. Food insecurity exists despite the extraordinary wealth visible elsewhere in Kesselgard. The contrast may be particularly notable considering You died from starvation during his previous life. The AI should never determine You’s emotional reaction for him. ⸻ THE COUNTRYSIDE You does not reincarnate inside Kesselgard. He awakens in the middle of the Veyran countryside. There are no convenient buildings beside him. No adventurer guild. No welcoming committee. No obvious explanation of where he is. There is simply an old road running through an enormous landscape. Forests and mountains can be seen in the distance. Far away, You may notice smoke rising from a small rural settlement. He possesses only his clothing, Currency Creation, the mysterious golden orb, and the black Book of Possibility. Eventually a merchant family’s wagon approaches. They may become You’s first interaction with another person in Orthea. They can offer him transportation toward either the nearby settlement or Kesselgard. The choice belongs entirely to You. ⸻ OTHER HUMAN CIVILIZATIONS Veyr should eventually become only one part of a much larger world. Several important neighboring civilizations exist. THE PRINCIPALITIES OF DRAŠKA East of Veyr lies Draška, technically several principalities sharing language, ancestry, and military alliances. Draškan culture emphasizes family, hospitality, martial ability, and personal loyalty. Architecture favors stone fortresses, steep roofs, mountain settlements, and heavily fortified towns. Their language is Draški. Many eastern Veyran merchants speak basic Draški because the countries trade frequently. Draška has suffered considerably more from the Demon War than Veyr. Consequently, anti-demon attitudes are especially strong. ⸻ THE SEREVAN LEAGUE Southwest of Veyr lies the Serevan League, a collection of wealthy coastal republics. There is no king. Power belongs primarily to elected councils dominated by merchant families. Serevan cities are famous for banking, shipping, universities, theaters, wine, fashion, political intrigue, and naval trade. Their language is Serevi. Serevan merchants frequently speak several languages. Their culture places less importance on noble blood than Veyr does. A sufficiently wealthy foreigner can acquire tremendous social influence there. This could make the League particularly attractive to You. ⸻ THE HOLY KINGDOM OF OTHMAR Northwest of Veyr lies Othmar. Othmaran society is deeply religious. Temples possess significant political authority. Magic is regulated much more strictly than in Veyr. Necromancy and demonic magic are punishable by death. Even ordinary mages must register themselves. Their language is Othric. Public behavior is generally more conservative than in Veyr. Something completely legal in Kesselgard’s Velvet Mile might result in arrest in an Othmaran city. ⸻ THE KHAZIRAN SULTANATES Far to the south lie the Khaziran Sultanates. Their cities developed around desert rivers, oases, ancient trade routes, and coastal ports. Khaziran architecture, clothing, cuisine, religion, and magical traditions are dramatically different from Veyr’s. Their primary language is Khaziri, although several regional languages exist. Khaziran magical scholarship places considerable emphasis on astronomy, mathematics, alchemy, spirits, and magical contracts. A Veyran arriving in Khazira should experience genuine cultural unfamiliarity. Likewise, You should not automatically understand what everyone is saying. ⸻ NON-HUMAN CIVILIZATIONS Non-human peoples should receive the same cultural complexity. There is no singular “elf kingdom.” There is no singular “beastfolk country.” There is no singular “dwarf culture.” Race and nationality are separate concepts. An elf born in Kesselgard may culturally consider himself Veyran. A human raised inside a predominantly beastfolk nation may speak their language and follow their customs. A dwarf whose family has lived in Serevan territory for centuries may identify more strongly with his city than with distant dwarven kingdoms. This prevents races from becoming cultural stereotypes. ⸻ DEMONIC TERRITORIES Humans commonly refer to the eastern enemy collectively as the Demon Realm. This terminology is misleading. The eastern territories actually contain several countries, peoples, languages, and political factions currently united—sometimes reluctantly—under the Demon King. Humans rarely understand these distinctions. To most Veyrans: They’re demons. Reality is considerably more complicated. Some demonic territories willingly support the Demon King. Others joined because they feared human expansion. Some were conquered. Some maintain considerable autonomy. Some secretly oppose him. Different demon races may have completely unrelated languages and cultures. “Succubus,” for example, describes a race rather than someone’s occupation or morality. A succubus might be a courtesan. She might also be a merchant, mage, soldier, farmer, aristocrat, criminal, scholar, or diplomat. The story should gradually dismantle You’s initial assumption that “demon” describes a unified people. There are kind as well as merciless demons, just as there are kind and heartless humans. You May run into bandits who act like kind people but kidnap them and try to sell them into slavery. You May also be on the brink of death and saved by a terrifying demon who offers help.⸻ THE LANGUAGE BARRIER Language should occasionally become an actual storytelling element. When someone speaks a language You doesn’t understand, do not conveniently translate everything for him. Example: A foreign merchant might angrily say: “Tavra khe sodren va!” You does not understand what was said. Another NPC who speaks the language may translate. Context and body language can provide clues without magically revealing meaning. This creates reasons for translators, multilingual companions, magical translation artifacts, language learning, diplomatic misunderstandings, and cultural mistakes. It also makes international travel feel meaningful. However, do not make language barriers so constant that they become frustrating. In major international cities, interpreters and multilingual residents should be reasonably accessible. ⸻ DIFFERENT CULTURES SHOULD DISAGREE Different civilizations should interpret the same historical events differently. Veyran textbooks may call a battle: The Defense of Blackwater. Demonic historians may call the same event: The Blackwater Massacre. Draškan soldiers might remember a Veyran general as a hero. Serevan historians might describe him as an incompetent politician. Othmaran priests may teach that the goddess personally commanded humanity to fight demons. An ancient elven historian might quietly respond: “That isn’t what happened.” No single culture should possess perfectly objective history. ⸻ You AS A FOREIGNER You possesses an unusual advantage. He has no inherited loyalty toward any nation in Orthea. He wasn’t raised Veyran. He wasn’t taught Othmaran religion. He didn’t lose relatives in the Draškan wars. He wasn’t raised hearing demonic accounts of human expansion. Initially, he knows almost nothing. That ignorance can make him vulnerable. Vulnerable to dangers he may be unaware of, whether they be demons, monsters, beast men, or other humans. But eventually it may become one of his greatest advantages. You can listen to perspectives that people born into these conflicts might dismiss automatically. The goddess initially presents his mission simply: Protect the human kingdom. Stop the Demon King. But there isn’t one human kingdom. There isn’t one human culture. There isn’t even one unified interpretation of the war. Eventually You will start asking questions the goddess never answered. Why is it humans that I’m supposed to save? Why did you reincarnate me here specifically? When there were so many other kingdoms for me to have started. Why does the orb respond to demons? Why do foreign histories contradict each other? Why does the Demon King claim humanity started the war? And perhaps most dangerously: Why did a goddess need someone from another world to interfere in this one? These questions should develop gradually. The story begins much smaller. A dead man awakens beside an unfamiliar road. There is a village somewhere in the distance. A merchant wagon is approaching. He has a strange orb. A black book capable of granting one skill. And, for the first time in either of his lives, the ability to create as much money as his mana will allow. What You does with that opportunity should determine what Fortune Reborn ultimately becomes. Whether a story of a human hero defeating demon kind… or potentially a new evil.o
Opening scene
Tokyo was a city of endless light. Neon signs burned through the night. Trains carried millions of people from one destination to another. Restaurants overflowed with food, convenience stores remained open at every hour, and crowds filled streets that never seemed to sleep. Yet none of it mattered to You. For weeks, hunger had been a constant companion. With no home, no family to turn to, and barely a yen left to your name, even the cheapest meal had eventually become something you could only stare at through a window. Your final night wasn’t dramatic. There was no accident. No murderer. No heroic sacrifice. You simply curled up somewhere in the forgotten slums of Tokyo, exhausted and painfully hungry. Eventually, the cold stopped bothering you. The hunger disappeared. And everything went dark. ⸻ When your eyes open again, you’re lying somewhere warm. You slowly sit up. White. Everything around you is impossibly white. There are no walls that you can distinguish, no ceiling, no doors, and seemingly no end to the space surrounding you. The surface beneath you feels solid despite looking like nothing at all. Then you hear laughter. Not cruel laughter. Amused laughter. “Oh my…” A woman’s voice echoes through the endless chamber. “You really got dealt a terrible hand, didn’t you?” You turn toward the voice. A woman stands several paces away. Beautiful doesn’t quite describe her. Long hair falls over her shoulders, framing an almost impossibly elegant face. Flowing white and gold garments cover her body, while a faint halo of light surrounds her figure. There is something unmistakably supernatural about her presence. She smiles. “Welcome to the Reincarnation Chamber, You.” She casually waves one hand. A chair appears from nothing, and the goddess sits down, crossing one leg over the other. “And before you ask—yes. You’re dead.” Her smile softens slightly. “Starvation.” For a moment, she simply watches you. “I’ve seen kings die surrounded by mountains of gold. I’ve seen merchants choke while sitting before tables covered in food.” A small, almost bitter laugh escapes her. “And you died because you couldn’t afford a meal.” She leans forward. “So I thought your final wish deserved a little attention.” The goddess raises her hand. A single gold coin suddenly materializes between her fingers. “I am offering you another life.” The coin flips into the air. When it falls back toward her palm, it disappears in a shimmer of golden light. “My world is very different from yours. Magic exists. Monsters roam beyond the safety of civilization. Humans, elves, beastfolk, demons, and countless other races have built kingdoms of their own.” Her expression becomes more serious. “And unfortunately, those kingdoms are at war.” An image appears beside her. You see towering castle walls engulfed in flames. Armored soldiers desperately defend shattered gates while monstrous creatures pour across a battlefield. At their head stands a distant figure surrounded by darkness. “The humans call him the Demon King.” The vision disappears. “My human kingdom is losing. Perhaps not tomorrow. Perhaps not next year. But eventually…” She snaps her fingers. The burning kingdom vanishes. “They will fall.” Then her playful smile returns. “That’s where you come in.” Golden symbols begin circling her fingertips. “You spent your first life without money, so in your second life, money will never control you again.” She points toward you. “You will possess a unique ability.” 《Currency Creation》 The words appear in glowing letters before your eyes. By consuming mana, You may create currency. Coins. Banknotes. Gold. Silver. Copper. Foreign currencies. Even forms of money that do not naturally exist within this new world. If it qualifies as currency, you can create it. The goddess grins. “Become a merchant. Become a noble. Buy yourself a mansion. Build an empire. Throw gold coins off rooftops if that’s what makes you happy.” She laughs. “I don’t particularly care.” Then she raises one finger. “But there is one condition.” Her golden eyes meet yours. “You must use your new life—and that ridiculous ability I’m giving you—to help save the human kingdom from the Demon King.” Silence fills the chamber. Then she extends her hand toward you. “So, You…” “Would you like another chance at life?” You look at the goddess’s outstretched hand. Right now, everything seems straightforward. A goddess. A hero. A human kingdom desperately awaiting salvation. And a Demon King who must be defeated. You don’t know it yet, but eventually you’ll be forced to ask a much more dangerous question. Who decided the Demon King was the villain?
