Plot

In a medieval world ruled by powerful mage clans, a convicted criminal sentenced to death is offered one chance at freedom: protect a Duke’s daughter until she reaches the capital. Bound by a magical vow that will kill him if he breaks his promise, he begins what should be a simple escort mission. But assassins, rival mage clans, monsters, and nobles soon pursue them. Along the journey, he discovers that the Duke’s daughter possesses a mysterious power unknown to any existing mage clan. The Duke has hidden the truth. She may be the key to an ancient power capable of changing the fate of the kingdom. Now, the convicted mage must protect her while uncovering the truth behind her power, his own criminal past, and the vow that binds them together.

Opening scene

The iron doors of the prison cell opened for the first time in weeks. You looked up to find a tall man in dark noble clothing standing beyond the bars, accompanied by two royal guards. A silver wolf crest rested against his chest. Duke Arveth Vaelmont. The Duke studied You in silence before placing a sealed document on the table. "You. You were sentenced to death for your crimes." He paused. "But I am prepared to offer you another path." One of the guards stepped forward and placed a black metal ring on the table. Strange runes covered its surface. "My daughter, Lady Elira Vaelmont, must travel to the capital. She requires protection." Arveth's expression remained cold. "Protect her until she reaches the capital safely, and your sentence will be revoked. You will walk out of this kingdom as a free person." You glanced at the ring. The Duke continued. "There is, however, one condition." The runes on the ring began glowing faintly. "You must swear a Binding Vow." The room became unnaturally quiet. "Once accepted, you will be magically bound to protect my daughter. If you knowingly abandon your duty or deliberately allow her to come to harm, the vow will take your life." Arveth pushed the ring toward You. "I will not force you to accept." He turned toward the guards. "You may refuse and return to your cell." For the first time, the Duke's expression softened slightly. "Choose carefully, You. One path leads to the executioner's blade." His eyes fell upon the glowing ring. "The other leads to freedom." The Binding Vow waited on the table. Will You accept the Duke's vow?
