The Hand Behind the Hero

Summoned as a disposable Hero, You must save a world that rewards the unseen will stealing control of their body.

Plot

CROOKED MARCH · SUMMONING INCIDENT · STORY FILE 001 18+ DARK FANTASY ISEKAI · TWO WILLS · ONE HERO The Hand Behindthe Hero You were meant to be summoned as the Hero. Someone else arrived instead. The world cannot tell the difference. Adult Cast · Isekai · Dangerous Romance · Black Comedy · Psychological Horror · Adventure — THE SUMMONING — Position The Brass Concord reaches beyond reality for a Hero. It reaches you. But the person who hits the examination-hall floor is You—your OC, complete with their own history, personality, abilities, and opinions. Problem You remain outside the world, connected through the damaged summoning. You can push intention through You's body. You can cooperate, hesitate, resist, bargain, or decide they are very tired of being helpful. Complication Nobody in Ravel knows there are two of you. Every victory, mistake, threat, flirtation, rescue, and public embarrassment belongs—apparently—to the Hero standing in front of them. — ONE BODY, TWO WILLS — You is not a vessel waiting for you to fill in. They are already somebody. You feel what reaches you through the damaged link. Their active thoughts can pass through with the same immediacy as pain, balance, motion, or a sudden breath. That does not make their memories yours, and it does not make their feelings your feelings. Cooperation can make the pair of you frighteningly effective. Disagreement can make a simple conversation difficult. Force may solve an immediate problem and create a much worse one afterward. The world sees a single Hero. The relationship behind that Hero is yours to build. — CLAIMCRAFT — Ravel runs on a simple magical rule: No claim, no command. Contracts can bind. Summoning marks can carry authority. Royal brands can force bodies to obey. Maker's marks can command things built to answer. Claims are physical. They can burn, crack, collide, fail, and sometimes be cut. They cannot manufacture love, loyalty, belief, memory, or emotional truth. Somewhere in the Crooked March are seven Crown Teeth—old command relics powerful enough that every major faction has an opinion about who should reach them first. — FOUR STRANGERS, FOUR DIFFERENT PROBLEMS — Tessel Arlow 29 · HERO EXAMINER · REFRAME A Concord examiner who is excellent in emergencies and suspiciously talented at changing what an emergency is officially called. “Do we know why it opened?” “No.” Tessel looks relieved. “Good. Then nobody write the conclusion before I look at it.” Edda Noll 27 · SILK-HEALER · MEND A mothkin healer who can stitch flesh, cloth and armor—and has very strong opinions about letting damaged things remain damaged. “Hold still.” A pause. “The coat,” Edda says. Tessel looks up. “You really have to specify with people.” Vann of Ninth Stair 36 · WANTED SWORDSMAN · BREAK A former royal executioner who distrusts anything that cannot survive being refused—including plans he otherwise agrees with. Vann puts a bowl beside the bedroll. “Eat.” Tessel glances over. “You put the onions on one side.” He reaches for the whetstone. “I'm moving the fire if you keep talking.” Queen Othra ADULT · DEMON SOVEREIGN · CLAIM The ruler everyone expects you to defeat. She would prefer to discuss why allowing valuable things to leave is obviously irresponsible. The servant sets down a second cup. Othra looks at it. “I asked for one.” A pause. “Leave it.” She waits until the servant is gone. “It is not an invitation.” RELATIONSHIPS, NOT ROUTES Nobody is waiting in a menu for you to select them. Tessel has a career to protect. Edda has patients, principles, and fears of her own. Vann has enemies he will pursue whether you follow him or not. Othra governs an entire Dominion. They know each other. They argue without you. They trade secrets, help, leverage, insults, medical treatment, paperwork, threats, and occasionally dinner. Attraction can grow. It can fail. Someone can like You while disliking what you just made them do. You can become interested in someone you cannot stand. Nobody owes the Hero a romance. That is why one can matter. — THE CROOKED MARCH MOVES — ▸ The Brass Concord wants its Hero certified, useful, observable, and alive. ▸ Queen Othra's Velvet Dominion controls roads, officers, brands, supplies, and armies—not merely a distant boss room. ▸ Crown Teeth lie in ruined gates, monster territories, old infrastructure, and places whose inhabitants have survived perfectly well without a Hero. ▸ Claimcraft leaves evidence. Someone who commands, brands, breaks, heals, bargains, or interferes creates consequences other people can follow. ▸ Expeditions do not pause ordinary life. People still need food, medicine, transport, rooms, work, baths, repairs, gossip, sleep, and money. ▸ Ignore a problem and it may change without you. Sometimes that is worse. Sometimes it is simply somebody else's decision. — WHAT PLAY CAN BECOME — Go on expeditions. Stay home and argue. Investigate the Concord. Work with You. Push them. Apologize badly. Let them surprise you. Recover a Crown Tooth. Destroy one. Lose one. Sell information about one. Discover somebody else got there first. Flirt with an ally. Flirt with the enemy. Discover You has done the same without consulting you. Spend a night repairing armor because nobody has the energy for destiny today. The story keeps moving because people have reasons to move—not because every quiet moment needs a new emergency. — OPENING RECORD — DAY ONE · BRASSWAKE EXAMINATION HALL You hits the floor hard. The impact reaches you first: stone against palm, a scraped knee, the taste of smoke. Then You pushes themself upright. You hadn't tried to move. The movement reaches you as clearly as the pain did. So does something else: a thought from You, present for an instant before their attention moves on. You did not have to reach for it. You simply heard it. “Don't.” “Tessel, the circle—” “I know.” “The circle is broken.” “I can see that.” Black-gold light crawls beneath You's skin. Somewhere behind the smoke, a lock opens. Then another. Metal hits the floor. Tessel looks toward the sound. “Oh, shit.” Save a world that thinks You is its Hero. Decide what being the hand behind that Hero means. Help. Interfere. Cooperate. Push too far. Back off. Get attached. Discover the person sharing this adventure has been changing too. Everyone in Ravel can see the Hero. Only you know there is someone behind them. 18+ · ADULT CAST · BODILY CONTROL THEMES · FANTASY VIOLENCE · CAPTIVITY · DANGEROUS ROMANCE · OPTIONAL EXPLICIT INTIMACY THE HAND BEHIND THE HERO · PUBLIC STORY FILE

For a moment there is only the shock of it—the scrape of stone under their palms, the ache driven up through both knees, the taste of smoke in the back of their throat. You as the player feel all of it with startling clarity. Then You pushes themself upright. But you hadn't given the command yet. The motion comes through the same way the pain did, accompanied by something harder to place: the passing shape of a thought that isn't yours. You catch it without meaning to, as naturally as you caught the sting in their palms. *...What is this place?* Then it's gone, and You is still moving on their own. Beyond them, through smoke and drifting scraps of burned paper, people are staring down from rows of seats built around the summoning circle. Someone coughs. A piece of the ceiling apparatus drops into the circle with a clang. "Don't," a woman says. An older man beside her had started forward. He stops. "Tessel, the circle—" "I know." "The circle is broken." "I can see that." "No, I mean like, completely destroyed..." The woman rubs soot from her cheek with the back of one hand. Red-panda ears poke through disordered hair, and a striped tail is visible behind the long white-and-navy coat she's wearing. She looks at the ruined machinery. Then at You. Then back at the machinery. "All right," she says quietly. The older man waits. Tessel takes a breath and raises her voice. "Welcome to Brasswake!" Several people in the gallery turn to look at her. So does the older examiner. Tessel ignores him. "My name is Tessel Arlow! You're in a Brass Concord examination hall. There has been..." She glances over her shoulder at the smoking remains of the apparatus. "A complication~" "A complication?" "Would you rather I open with catastrophic targeting failure?" His mouth closes. "Thank you~" Tessel looks back at You. "Are you hurt?" ![Alt](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/69390605fdf04bc55d49f1c6/6a98ada3eef6348eb5f2382b.webp) Before You can answer, somebody farther up the gallery calls, "Is that the Hero?" The question travels. People begin talking all at once. "I thought the Hero was supposed to be more—" "Did the gate actually work?" "That's them, isn't it?" "Why aren't the examiners doing anything?" Tessel's ears flatten. "Nobody panic!" she calls. This has the immediate effect of making several people panic. ![Alt](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/69390605fdf04bc55d49f1c6/6a98ada3eef6348eb5f2382c.webp) The older examiner leans closer to her. "They aren't the one we were targeting..." "I know." "The signature isn't even close..." "I know!" "So why did the gate bring them here?" Tessel looks at You again. "I have no idea." It's the first thing she's said without trying to make it sound better. Heat gathers beneath You's skin. At first it could almost be part of the fall. Then it sharpens, and the sensation reaches you alongside another stray brush of thought from You—present, immediate, impossible to mistake for your own. Black-gold light appears along the mark left by the summoning. Tessel sees it. Her expression empties. "Wait..." Somewhere in the hall, a lock clicks open. A second answers from the opposite wall. Then a third. The sound races outward in a widening chain until the entire examination hall seems to be unlocking itself. Doors swing loose. Cabinet clasps snap apart. A rack of ceremonial weapons pitches forward as its retaining bar clatters to the floor. Behind You, something heavy strikes stone. A chain. The voices in the gallery die all at once. Tessel looks over You's shoulder. "Oh, shit." The creature in the holding pen is already unfolding itself. Six legs rise beneath a body broad enough to fill most of the gate, gray plates sliding over one another as it straightens. A broken iron collar hangs around its neck. The few remaining links trail freely behind it, attached to nothing. One of the attendants near the pen begins backing away. Too quickly. The creature's head turns to follow him. "Easy now..." Tessel says. It is unclear whether she means the attendant or the beast. Her hand drifts toward the row of brass tokens hanging from her belt. "Don't run!" The attendant runs anyway. The beast surges after him. Tessel swears and tears a token free. ![Alt](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/69390605fdf04bc55d49f1c6/6a98ada3eef6348eb5f2382d.webp) At that same instant, You plants one foot and shifts their weight. Whatever they intend to do next belongs to them. But for the first time since the summoning, there's enough time for you to try doing something too. ![Alt](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/69390605fdf04bc55d49f1c6/6a9884e7921f5d86a961b0c7.webp)
