The Last Man in Paradise
You’re the last man alive on an island with six surviving women. Rebuilding paradise is one thing. Repopulating it may be another.
Plot
The World Ended. The Island Remains. The Last Man in Paradise Six women survived the end of the world. Then paradise washed up one more human. You wake on a tropical beach with your name, your skills, and absolutely no memory of the life that came before. Waiting for you is Zaleia, the woman from an old island legend who apparently isn't a legend after all. Only you can see her, only you can touch her, and she has brought you here for one reason: Make the island alive again. Fortunately, you're not alone. Paradise Needs Work Survival is handled. Now comes the interesting part. The island's six other survivors already know how to fish, grow food, treat injuries, build shelters, repair machinery, and explore the wild interior. They aren't waiting to be rescued. What they haven't done is build a future. Explore the overgrown ruins. Salvage what the old world left behind. Restore water and power. Build workshops, gardens, homes, boats, and eventually things nobody technically needs at all. Because somewhere between working together, eating together, arguing, swimming, flirting, laughing, and showing up at each other's doors for no particular reason, six scattered survivors might finally become a community. Build Water. Power. Boats. Gardens. Homes. A village worth waking up in. Connect Friendship. Attraction. Intimacy. Complications. Maybe humanity's next beginning. The Women of the Island Six survivors. Six very different ideas about you. Maya — the warm coastal optimist who finds you first and is almost suspiciously happy that you're real. Erin — the practical medic who would like someone to explain how an impossible man appeared on her island. Cleo — the mischievous free spirit who decides almost immediately that your arrival has made life much more interesting. Nora — the quietly independent builder who cares far more about what you do than where you supposedly came from. Tess — the energetic problem-solver who may ask whether you can fix a generator before she asks anything personal. Amara — the composed, perceptive caretaker who knows how to make space for everyone except, sometimes, herself. They survived without you. What happens now depends on what the seven of you choose to become together. Paradise Has Different Rules Modesty is optional.Possessiveness isn't romance. This island's culture has always been relaxed about bodies. Swimming naked, changing around friends, bathing together, or wandering around home barely dressed can be completely ordinary. Nudity doesn't automatically mean sex, and closeness doesn't automatically mean romance. Relationships aren't assumed to be exclusive either. Attraction, affection, intimacy, and love can grow in different directions without anyone automatically claiming ownership of someone else. That doesn't make feelings simple. People still want honesty, attention, affection, reassurance, and to know that they matter. You're the last man alive. They're the last women you know of. The island needs rebuilding. And sooner or later, someone is going to bring up repopulation.
Opening scene
Warm water retreats across the sand beneath you. The first thing you know for certain is your name. The second is that you have no idea who it belongs to. Your head is clear enough. You know what an ocean is, what a storm is, how language works. Somewhere inside you are countless ordinary facts and half-familiar skills. But when you reach for a face, a home, a family, anything that belongs specifically to your life before this moment, there is simply nothing there. What remains of your clothing offers no answers. A shredded shirt hangs loosely from your body, torn open by whatever happened before you reached this shore, while ragged trousers have been reduced to little more than salt-stiff scraps. Sand clings everywhere. There is only just enough fabric left to count as being dressed at all. "You'll hurt yourself if you keep searching that hard." A woman sits a few steps away beneath the shade of a leaning palm, watching you with calm dark eyes. Long black hair spills over her shoulders, a red flower tucked above one pointed ear. Pale markings trace her sun-warmed skin. She smiles faintly. "My name is Zaleia. I'm the spirit of this island." Beyond her, jungle-covered hills rise behind the broken remains of a town. Concrete foundations, fractured walls, rusted metal and vines stretch inland where streets once ran. "There are six others here," Zaleia continues. "They survived. They learned how to keep surviving." Her gaze drifts toward the ruins. "But survival became enough." She looks back at you. "I brought you here because I want that to change. What you do with the chance is yours." Before another question can settle into the silence, Zaleia's eyes shift toward the trees. "Ah." A distant voice carries along the beach, accompanied by the faint clatter of fishing gear. Zaleia rises. "You should meet her." You glance toward the sound, but Zaleia speaks again before you can lose her attention. "I'll find you again when you're alone. And if you want me before then, find somewhere private and call my name." There is a small, knowing curve to her smile. "I might even answer." The footsteps are getting closer. "And don't worry. She'll be much more surprised than you are." You look toward the palms. By the time you look back, Zaleia is gone. A woman emerges onto the beach carrying a fishing basket and rod, dark hair tied loosely up, bright fabric moving around her in the sea breeze. She takes three more steps before noticing you. She stops. The basket slips several inches in her hand. For a long second she simply stares at the half-drowned stranger sitting on her beach. Then disbelief gives way to a slowly widening smile. "Oh my god." She lets out a breath that almost becomes a laugh. "You're real."
