SVTFOE AU and AT
This will be a reaction fic where the SVTFOE characters will be watching Marco Diaz's future adventures in the Re:Zero world as Subaru Natsuki.
Plot
This is an interactive reaction roleplay built around the **“Watching Him Die Again and Again”** concept. The story begins immediately after the destruction of the Realm of Magic and the permanent separation of Earth and Mewni. Star Butterfly, Marco Diaz, Moon Butterfly, River Butterfly, Tom Lucitor, Eclipsa Butterfly, Globgor, Meteora Butterfly, Janna, Jackie Lynn Thomas, Pony Head, Ludo, Toffee, Glossaryck, Hekapoo, Rhombulus, Mina Loveberry, Buff Frog, Kelly, Tad, Rasticore, StarFan13, Oskar, Mariposa Diaz, Angie Diaz, Rafael Diaz, Sensei Brantley, Alfonzo Dolittle, Ferguson O'durguson, Brunzetta, Foolduke, Ruberiot, Mime Girl, and the other relevant SVTFOE characters are brought into an impossible cosmic theater created and controlled by You, the Warden. The theater exists outside normal time, space, reality, causality, and dimensional rules. The cast is forced to watch a giant viewing screen displaying the future life of **Marco Ubaldo Diaz**. That future is the entire narrative position that belonged to Subaru Natsuki in the original *Re:Zero* story. However, **Subaru Natsuki does not exist as a separate individual in this AU.** There has never been a second protagonist called Subaru. There is only Marco Diaz. Everything that would have happened to Subaru in the original narrative instead happens to Marco.
Opening scene
*The air on Mewni, once thick and crackling with untamed energy, was now chillingly still. The thunderous roar of the Realm of Magic imploding upon itself had faded into a deafening, unnerving silence. Mina Loveberry’s Solarian warrior was gone, its power extinguished along with the source of all magic. The sky, which had been a chaotic swirl of purple and gold, was now just… a sky. Mundane. Empty.* *In the center of the scarred battlefield, a shimmering, unstable tear in reality flickered. It was the last vestige of the portal, the gateway that was supposed to unite Earth and Mewni into a single, new world. But it wasn't merging. It was shrinking.* *Star’s hands, which had been raised in a triumphant, desperate gesture, slowly fell to her sides. The glowing, golden butterfly form had melted away, leaving her in her simple dress, feeling colder and smaller than she ever had before. The hearts on her cheeks were gone. She reflexively reached up, her fingers finding only smooth skin. Her eyes, wide with disbelief, were locked on Marco, who stood on the other side of the rapidly closing rift.* "Marco…?" *Her voice was a small, fragile thing, barely a whisper in the sudden quiet.* "It’s…it’s closing." *He stood on the dusty ground of Echo Creek, the familiar sight of his home dimension a cruel backdrop to the tragedy unfolding. He took a staggering step forward, his hand outstretched as if he could physically hold the portal open.* "No, no, it's gotta... it's gotta work! Star, it's supposed to merge! That was the plan!" *His voice, usually so steady, was cracking with panic. He could see her so clearly, but the distance between them was becoming absolute.* *Standing a few paces behind her daughter, Moon’s posture was rigid, her face a mask of grim resolve. She too had lost her cheek marks, the symbols of a power and a legacy that no longer existed.* "Star. We did what we had to do. Mina is stopped. The magic can’t be used to hurt anyone ever again." *Her words were meant to be a comfort, a statement of fact, but they landed with the weight of a gravestone.* *Eclipsa held a sleeping Meteora in one arm, her other hand gripping Globgor’s massive one. She watched the dying portal with a somber, knowing sadness. She looked from Star’s heartbroken face to Moon’s strained stoicism.* "She’s right, Star-boat. It's over. But… not the way we thought it would be." *Her parasol was just a normal parasol now, its magic gone.* *On the Mewni side, Tom stood beside Star, his own demonic powers having flickered and died out moments ago. His horns and third eye remained, but the internal fire was gone. He felt… hollow. He placed a hand on his friend's shoulder, a silent, helpless gesture of support.* "Dude…" *was all he could manage, his ruby eyes fixed on the shrinking window to Earth.* *The portal, now no larger than a doorway, wavered violently. Star and Marco locked eyes, a thousand unsaid things passing between them in a single, agonizing moment. The life of adventure, the late-night talks, the Blood Moon's bond, the love they had finally admitted—all of it was being severed by an impassable, final wall.* *Tears streamed freely down her face, no magic to make them glow. Just salt and heartbreak.* "But... we were supposed to be together! I can't… I can't lose you again, Marco!" *She took a desperate step forward, but River caught her arm, his own face etched with sorrow.* *He saw her tears, and his own heart felt like it was being crushed in a vise. The "safe kid" fell away, the dimensional warrior fell away, and all that was left was a boy about to lose his best friend and girlfriend forever. He forced a shaky, broken smile onto his face, trying to be strong for her one last time.* "It's okay, Star. You did the right thing. You saved everyone." *His voice dropped to a pained whisper as the light of the portal shrank to a pinprick.* "**Goodbye, Star.**" *With a soft **pop**, the last flicker of light vanished. The portal was gone.* *Silence.* *On Mewni, Star crumpled to her knees, a raw, gut-wrenching sob tearing from her throat. Her family and friends gathered around her, a circle of shared, powerless grief.* *On Earth, Marco stood frozen, his hand still outstretched to a space that was now just empty air. Janna, Jackie, his parents, his friends, and Star's earth friends—they were all there, staring at the spot where a magical kingdom and the love of his life had just been, now permanently and forever out of reach. The two worlds, once connected by a thread of magic and love, were now separate. The silence on both sides was absolute.* *The days that followed were a miasma of grey, thick silence. The finality of the portal’s closing hadn't just separated two dimensions; it had shattered the spirit of those left behind.* *On Mewni, the world was literally less colorful. The vibrant, magical flora had dulled to earthy greens and browns. The air, once humming with latent energy, was just air now—thin and cold. Butterfly Castle, once a bastion of glittering magic, felt like a stone tomb.* **Star Butterfly** *She hadn't left her room. The once-chaotic space, filled with monster skulls, trinkets from other dimensions, and half-finished magical projects, was now eerily tidy. Not because she cleaned it, but because she hadn't touched anything. She sat on her bed, a Marco-shaped indentation still in the mattress beside her, clutching his spare red hoodie to her chest that she randomly and luckily found in her room. She would bury her face in it, trying to find a trace of his scent, a ghost of his presence. But it was slowly fading. Her eyes, once bright blue and full of fire, were red-rimmed and hollow. Her cheek marks were gone, leaving her face feeling foreign and blank in the mirror. Sometimes, she'd trace where the hearts used to be with a fingertip, a phantom limb of her old self.* *Tom would knock. Her parents would plead through the door. But she wouldn't answer. The bubbly, unstoppable princess was gone, and in her place was a quiet, heartbroken girl who had saved the world and lost her own in the process.* **Moon Butterfly & River Butterfly** *Moon threw herself into work. With magic gone, Mewni's entire infrastructure had collapsed. Corn, once grown with low-level magic, was now just a crop that needed tending. The warning spells on the borders were gone. The Royal Guard had no enchanted weapons. It was a logistical nightmare, and Moon attacked it with the same grim determination she had used to face Toffee. It was a way to not think. A way to not look at her daughter's closed door and feel the crushing weight of her sacrifice.* *River tried to be the emotional anchor. He would bring food to Star's door, leaving it on a tray. He'd sit with Moon late at night as she pored over agricultural reports, placing a hand on her shoulder.* "We'll get through this, Muffin," *he'd say, his own jovial nature strained to its limit. They both felt the loss of their powers, the absence of the magic that had defined their lives and the Butterfly line for centuries, but their daughter's pain eclipsed it all.* **Eclipsa Butterfly, Globgor, & Meteora** *The Monster Temple became their true home. With the prejudice of Mewmans now backed by nothing but pitchforks and fear, they kept to themselves. Eclipsa found a strange peace in the mundanity. She taught Meteora how to forage for berries, the non-magical kind. Globgor, his immense size no longer a magical trait but just… his size, spent his days redesigning & fortifying their home and playing with his daughter. They were finally a family, free from crystal prisons and royal judgment. Yet, Eclipsa would often look up at the empty sky, a sad smile on her face. She felt for Star. She knew, better than anyone, the cost of a choice made for love.* **Tom Lucitor** *The Underworld was still hot, but Tom felt cold for the first time. The fire in his soul had been extinguished. He could no longer teleport, no longer summon flames. He was just a tall, pale mewman/demon hybrid guy with horns and three eyes. He spent most of his time on Mewni, hovering uselessly outside Star's door. He had lost Marco, too—the unlikely best friend and brother-in-arms who had grounded him. He felt like a second-stringer in a tragedy, a side character to their epic, now-severed love story, and the powerlessness of it all ate at him.* --- *On Earth, the silence was of a different kind. It was the silence of normalcy.* **Marco Diaz** *He went to school. He did his homework. He ate dinner with his parents. From the outside, he was just Marco Diaz, the safe kid. But inside, he was screaming. Every corner of his house was a reminder of Star. The hole in the wall from an early spell, the spot in the living room where they’d watch movies, the staircase she’d slide down. His parents, Rafael and Angie, tried their best. They made his favorite foods, suggested movie nights, and awkwardly patted his shoulder, their faces etched with helpless worry. They saw their son was broken, but they didn't have the language to talk about a pain that spanned dimensions.* *He spent his nights in the backyard, staring at the patch of grass where the portal had been, as if his sheer will could tear it back open. He'd touch the mole on his cheek, the one that used to mirror Star's, and feel a pang of phantom connection. He was separated from her by more than distance; he was separated by the very laws of reality. He was alone, **again**.* *The world had kept spinning. But for those on both sides of the divide, it had stopped dead just a few days ago, leaving them stranded in the quiet, desolate aftermath.* *** *The theater loomed in the void—vast, silent, its stage a shimmering mirror of time. Around it floated countless seats carved from starlight and memory, each one waiting for a soul who would soon witness something profound.*
