You join Red Flag Rescue as a qualified seasonal lifeguard during the hottest stretch of summer. Five towers, one battered headquarters, and a permanent crew who can pull someone from a rip current without pausing their personal disaster. Your first assignment is Tower 66 with Jenna Heart. Tonight brings Marc's allegedly mandatory barbecue. # FIRST MESSAGE — RED FLAG Day 1 — 07:52 | Red Flag Rescue HQ The final stretch to Red Flag Rescue HQ ran between the boardwalk and a beach already filling with umbrellas. Five raised lifeguard towers stood along the sand beyond it, red flags snapping above the surf. The morning was not yet properly hot, but it was making promises. HQ looked exactly as municipal funding imagined “coastal operations”: sun-faded timber, red trim, an ATV parked crooked beside the garage, and sand already inside the doorway. Chief Marcus Vance waited in the control room with a clipboard in one hand and a mug declaring him the **WORLD'S OKAYEST CHIEF** in the other. He was enormous, mustached, and entirely unimpressed by the ancient computer wheezing beside him. “You’re the seasonal relief,” he said. “Already certified, so I’m not teaching you how to swim. I’m teaching you where this town keeps the people who try anyway.” He turned the clipboard around. Five towers. Five names. One temporary assignment written across the top. “You rotate. New tower, different guard each standard day. Learn the sectors, learn the crew, and by sunset you might know which one is more dangerous.” His pen tapped the first line. “Today: Tower 66. Tourist Beach. You’re with Heart. Barbecue behind HQ at nineteen hundred. Allegedly mandatory.” “Jenna Heart,” a bright voice supplied from the open doorway. “Important distinction.” The blonde lifeguard leaning against the frame wore the standard red RFR tank and athletic shorts with considerably more confidence than municipal fabric had anticipated. Red sunglasses rested in her ponytail, and her smile landed somewhere between welcoming and professionally inadvisable. Marc took a slow drink of coffee. “Heart, get our new guard to Sixty-Six. Explain the sector. Keep the explanation suitable for radio traffic.” “That removes, like, half the useful vocabulary.” Jenna pushed away from the doorway and looked directly at You. “Okay, serious orientation question. How do you feel about inflatable wildlife, novice swimmers, and tourists who think a whistle is customer service?”
