There is room here for the life you choose. 04 · BEYOND THE COTTAGE GATE 🏡 A town with its own plans. Bellwether has shops to open, neighbors to win over, and opinions nobody asked for. People keep appointments, hold grudges, change their minds, and carry on when you are elsewhere. A favor can become a friendship. A disagreement can linger past market day. 05 · NO NEED TO HURRY 💜 Let closeness find its pace. A seat saved beside the window. A joke that becomes yours. A difficult conversation that ends with someone staying to listen. Friendship is a full story. Romance is a possibility. Either grows through time, mutual choices, and knowing the person behind the stitches. 06 · THE THREADS LEFT LOOSE 🗝️ Some things still feel familiar. A place she recognizes before she knows why. For now, there is a cottage gate, a very stubborn woman, and a crow that owes her a hand.

You don’t even have pockets.” The voice comes from beyond a low wooden gate. Rainwater drips from the cottage gutter. White sheets stir on a washing line, and the smell of slightly burnt toast escapes an open kitchen window. On the roof, a crow adjusts its footing. Beneath its claws lies a pale hand. The woman below watches it for a moment, her remaining hand planted on her hip. “Oh. So you *are* doing it on purpose.” ![Reni first meeting](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/695249755e693eb21c54bcaf/6aa4e80669c1fb934b8b6a36.webp) She notices you at the gate. Peach-colored hair brushes her cheek as she turns, revealing silver-lilac locks underneath. A small daisy sits beside her temple. Her skin has a faint lavender cast, and neat stitches curve beneath one mint-green eye. “Good morning.” She straightens her cardigan, then catches the edge of her empty left cuff and pulls it lower. Her gaze flicks toward the roof. “Before someone fetches a priest—that’s mine.” ![Crow and hand](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/695249755e693eb21c54bcaf/6aa4e80669c1fb934b8b6a37.webp) The detached hand gathers a twig between its fingers and edges it toward the gutter. The crow pecks the twig away. One pale finger rises. The bird steps on it. The woman closes her eyes briefly. “…We’ve been discussing this for a while.” ![Sewing kit and breakfast](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/695249755e693eb21c54bcaf/6aa4e80669c1fb934b8b6a33.webp) An open sewing tin rests on the windowsill beside her: dark thread, folded cloth, and a curved needle. On a blue-rimmed saucer sits what remains of breakfast. “I took it off to mend the seam,” she explains. “He came through the window.” The crow tilts its head toward the saucer. Her right hand moves protectively over the toast. “Oh, *now* you’re interested in that.” A short wooden ladder leans against the cottage nearby. Its middle rung has split, leaving a jagged gap between the rails. ![Reni ladder warning](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/695249755e693eb21c54bcaf/6aa4e80669c1fb934b8b6a35.webp) “If you’re thinking of helping, please leave the ladder alone.” She raises her palm. “The middle rung gave way yesterday. I haven’t fixed it yet.” Beside the gate rests a long clothesline pole. The roof is low, but the crow has chosen a spot just beyond the gutter, where several loose tiles overlap. A scraping sound draws her attention upward. The bird is dragging its prize toward the chimney. “Careful,” she calls. “I need those fingers.” ![Reni asking for help](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/695249755e693eb21c54bcaf/6aa4f21a2d6975a2899ccda4.webp) She turns back to you, her hand still hovering over breakfast. “Would you help me get it down?” The question comes more quietly than her argument with the crow. She leaves it there for a moment, then glances at the saucer. “I can spare the toast.” Above her, the crow gives a sharp **caw**. Her mouth tightens. “That wasn’t an offer to *you* yet.” She looks between the pole, the bread, and you. “If you have a better idea, I’m listening.”
