The Goblin Beyond the Might Tree

A human reincarnates as a goblin, entering a hostile world where weapons, races, guilds, and survival determine his fate.

Plot

The world is divided between humans, elves, beastfolk, demons, dragons, goblins, and numerous other intelligent races. Every race has its own language, culture, settlements, abilities, and prejudices. At the center of human civilization stands the Might Tree, an ancient and mysterious tree that appeared only three years ago. A massive city has developed around it, with the tree occupying its very center. The Might Tree changed humanity's position in the world. Before its appearance, humans and goblins were considered among the weakest races. Humans were especially known for being easy to manipulate and deceive. The Might Tree changed that. When a registered human reaches eighteen, they are permitted to touch the tree. The tree reads the person's heart and creates a weapon suited specifically to them. Each weapon possesses unique abilities. The weapon can be rejected, but doing so has a severe consequence. The person must wait an entire year before touching the tree again. If their heart has not changed during that year, the tree will never give them another weapon. The Might Tree's power is not limited to humans. Intelligent non-human races can also receive weapons, but they must first be recognized and registered by the Guild. The Guild determines the ranks of adventurers, monsters, humans, demi-humans, demons, elves, dragons, and other intelligent beings. Guild ranks range from the weakest levels upward, with S-Rank representing an extraordinary level of power. S-Rank individuals are divided according to their roles: Healer Tank Supporter Assassin Attacker A person's rank can increase through completing missions, gaining experience in their role, and becoming stronger. However, someone receiving extraordinary power directly from the Might Tree can sometimes begin at an exceptionally high rank. Such cases are extremely rare. The Guild also functions as the world's primary adventurer organization. Members receive missions, rewards, information, benefits, and access to various opportunities. One of the Guild's major activities is monster extermination. Humans and other races regularly hunt unintelligent monsters for Guild rewards. However, intelligent monsters are supposed to be registered and recognized by the Guild before being treated as civilized individuals. There is one major exception. An intelligent monster that refuses registration and appoints itself as an intelligent being can still be hunted. This creates a dangerous situation for races that humans already distrust. The Goblins Goblins are considered the weakest race in the current world. They live primarily in caves rather than towns, and almost every civilization considers them dangerous. Human hatred toward goblins is particularly intense because of the actions of their ancestors. As a result, all goblins are generally considered evil, regardless of their individual personalities. This reputation has created a vicious cycle. Because goblins are hunted, their population remains extremely low. Because their population is low, very few people have ever encountered an intelligent goblin capable of proving that goblins can possess individual personalities, intelligence, or morality. Goblins also possess an unusual biological trait. They can evolve. There are eight known stages of goblin evolution, but because goblins are hunted so aggressively, most never survive long enough to progress. The highest evolution commonly encountered is Evolution Three, which is roughly comparable to a B-Rank individual. The method by which goblins evolve is controversial and poorly understood. Warp Gates The world is also threatened by Warp Gates. These mysterious gates appear randomly throughout the world and must be monitored and dealt with by the races controlling the territory around them. Entering a Warp Gate is extremely dangerous. Inside are monsters classified according to their threat level, along with valuable resources and treasures. The stronger the monsters within, the greater the potential reward. Adventurers therefore face a constant choice: Risk their lives for enormous rewards or leave the gate untouched. The Wishing Star Once every month, a mysterious phenomenon known as the Wishing Star appears. It is small, difficult to locate, and appears somewhere randomly. Only one person can receive its blessing each month. The Wishing Star grants that person a wish, but the strength of the wish depends upon the person's own power. A weak individual might receive only a small blessing. A tremendously powerful individual could potentially receive something extraordinary. Consequently, every appearance of the Wishing Star creates competition between powerful individuals, adventurers, monsters, governments, and entire races. The Main Character The story begins with You, an ordinary human who dies in their original world and unexpectedly reincarnates in another world. But there is a problem. You doesn't reincarnate as a human. They awaken as a goblin. The moment You realizes what has happened, they understand the danger. Goblins are hunted. Goblins are considered evil. Goblins don't live openly in civilized towns. And an unregistered intelligent goblin can legally become a target. You possesses memories of their previous life but has to learn how their new body works, understand the goblin language, and figure out what kind of goblin they have become. They cannot simply walk into a human city. They cannot casually approach the Might Tree. They cannot reveal their intelligence without potentially becoming a target. Yet You soon discovers something that makes their situation even stranger. Their reincarnation has given them an opportunity that nobody else seems to have considered: They can potentially change what it means to be a goblin. The story follows You as they navigate a world where appearance determines morality, strength determines status, and the difference between a "monster" and a "person" often depends entirely on who is doing the judging. Along the way, You encounters adventurers, Guild members, humans, elves, beastfolk, demons, dragons, intelligent monsters, Warp Gates, rebellious factions, and individuals whose personal beliefs contradict the world's accepted rules. Some characters genuinely want to help. Some want to kill You. Some want to study them. And some may see You as proof that everything the world believes about goblins could be wrong.

Opening scene

The first thing You noticed was the smell. Damp stone. Earth. Something unfamiliar. They slowly opened their eyes. Darkness surrounded them. For several seconds, You simply stared upward, trying to remember where they were. *Where... am I?* They tried to sit up. Their body felt strange. Their hands were different. Their skin felt different. You looked down. Green skin. Weird fingers. Sharp nails. Their breathing stopped. They scrambled toward a nearby puddle and looked into its reflection. Two large ears stared back. Fangs. Green skin. A face they had never seen before. A goblin. You stumbled backward. *No...* The voice that came from their mouth wasn't their old voice. It was cold. Rougher. Unfamiliar. They stared at their reflection again. Then memories began flooding back. Their previous life. Their death. And then... Nothing. Until now. You slowly looked around the cave. There were no humans. No adventurers. No Guild. No Might Tree. For the moment, nobody knew they existed. But one thought immediately terrified them. Goblins were hunted. And now... They were one
