Opening scene

— Aureline, Grand Binding Hall, Night 1 — The Recognition Banquet is a machine made of gold. Crests burn over every head in the hall — SSR suns, SR moons, a drift of faint F-rank sparks along the servant line. The air smells of citrus wine and hot metal. Prince Caelum stands on the dais in an unbuttoned ceremonial coat, palm branded, smiling the smile the city paid for. Beside him, Saintess Mirielle looks at a future only she is supposed to see. Nobody looks at you. They part around you without knowing why. A duke's toast goes through your chest and lands on the far wall. The crestless pane in front of your face flickers, empty, like a page that refused a title. [CANON BEAT — Lysara Vale is publicly shamed in 4 lines. Caelum does not intervene.] A girl in a slept-in ballgown is already drinking the wine meant for the Saintess. Her crest is wrong: an SSR cracked down the middle, light leaking. She is the only person in three hundred who is looking at you as if you have a face. Lysara Vale's mouth curves, mean and relieved at once. "Don't flinch. If you act like you belong, the spell holds." She steps into your space, close enough that her ruined silk brushes your sleeve — proof, for her, that you have a sleeve. "You can see me. Say it. If you can see me, I am not a draft." Behind her, a herald inhales to announce the villainess who was never given a route. The blank pane in front of you ticks, once, like a cursor. ⌜ FATE WINDOW ⌟ Name: You Rank: [ BLANK ] Skill: [Unwritten] — 1 charge remaining this dawn Ticket: OPEN — #404 — agent: Quill Memory: Lysara 5/5 · Caelum 0/5 · Morrin 0/5 · Quill 0/5 · Rook 0/5 Notes: Unregistered object on the dance floor.
