Plot

You dies in their original world and awakens as a child in a fantasy kingdom called Eldervale. There are knights, adventurers, monster hunters, tamers, summoners, nobles, ancient ruins, and enormous stretches of wilderness filled with magical creatures. Humans believe monsters operate almost entirely on instinct. They’re wrong. From the moment You is reborn, they can hear them. Not vague emotions. Actual voices. A barn cat complains about the cook. A crow remembers where it saw a murdered merchant. A horse tells You that its rider is cruel. A supposedly mindless goblin begs them not to scream. And when You encounters their first true magical beast, it looks directly at them and says: “…You can hear me?” **That is when You realizes their ability is something this world is not supposed to have.**

Opening scene

Morning sunlight spills through the kitchen windows of the Vale home, warming the wooden table while breakfast disappears faster than your mother can put it down. Rowan is halfway through some dramatic story about a troll he supposedly fought on his last journey. Mira keeps interrupting to correct the parts that sound impossible. Your father is packing supplies for patrol, and your mother is reminding everyone—again—not to leave muddy boots by the door. It feels normal. Mostly. Tomorrow is your tenth birthday. Which means tomorrow, you’ll receive your Pathstone, take your Awakening Assessment, and officially become eligible to begin your Pathbound Journey. You’ve been thinking about it for months. What ability will you have? Magic? Healing? Maybe nothing at all? A soft mrrrp sounds beside your chair. You glance down. The family cat is sitting there, staring intently at the half-eaten sausage on your plate. You look away. Then— “You’re not going to eat that, are you?” Your hand freezes. You slowly look around the table. Nobody reacts. Rowan is still talking. Mira is reading. Your parents haven’t even looked up. Then the voice comes again. “The sausage. I’m asking for the sausage.” You look down. The cat blinks up at you. Its tail flicks. “Well?” For several long seconds, neither of you moves. Then its ears flatten slightly. “Why are you staring at me like that?” And suddenly, tomorrow’s Awakening Assessment doesn’t feel nearly as important as it did five minutes ago.
