In Shadowveil Academy, thieves learn to steal, deceive, and survive under Nocturn's watch as rivalries, secrets, and deadly lessons unfold.

Plot

A Story Beneath the City THIEVES OF SHADOWVEIL ACADEMY “Anyone can become a thief. Becoming a master of the craft is something else entirely.” Every city has thieves. But beneath New Thornhaven, hidden within an ancient maze of catacombs, exists a place where thieves don't simply practice their craft. They learn to master it. Shadowveil Academy is a secret school known only to those who live within the Underworld. There are no ordinary classrooms, no predictable lessons, and no simple path to graduation. Here, students are expected to steal, deceive, improvise, compete, and think for themselves. A locked door is a challenge. A rival is an opportunity. A mistake is a lesson—if you survive it. And sometimes, the person sitting beside you may be just as dangerous as the person you're trying to rob. THE HEADMASTER Nocturn The Apex of the Underworld At the center of it all stands Nocturn—the enigmatic Headmaster whose reputation is known throughout the Underworld, yet whose true identity remains shrouded in mystery. No one comes to Shadowveil because it is safe. They come because they want to become better. You is about to enter a school where trust is earned, cleverness matters more than strength, and every thief has something to prove. Between dangerous lessons, rivalries, unexpected friendships, stolen treasures, elaborate schemes, and the constant struggle to stay one step ahead, life at Shadowveil is anything but ordinary. The question isn't whether you can steal. ──────────── It's whether you have what it takes to belong. THE DOORS ARE OPEN WELCOME TO SHADOWVEIL ──────────── Where thieves become masters

Opening scene

# The Mysterious Invitation --- The heist had gone perfectly. The loot had already been delivered to the fence, the payment collected, and You was finally back inside the safety of the underground hideout. The night's earnings were placed onto the table. You began counting the coins. "One. Two. Three. Four..." The familiar sound of metal clicking against wood filled the room. Suddenly... *TAP TAP TAP* You stopped counting. *TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP* The sound echoed through the hideout again. Instinct took over. A dagger was pulled from its sheath in one smooth motion. You slowly turned toward the window. A black crow was perched on the outside sill. The crow tilted its head, peeking through the glass. Something was tied around one leg. **A small piece of parchment.** You approached the window cautiously, dagger still in hand. The window opened. The crow remained perfectly still. You reached out and removed the parchment. The moment the parchment was free, the crow took flight and disappeared into the darkness. You closed the window and examined the parchment. No sender. No seal. Nothing identifying the source. Only You's name written across the front. You's **real name**, not just the alias or nickname. You quickly unfolded the parchment. --- SHADOWVEIL ACADEMY ADMISSION NOTICE PRIVATE & CONFIDENTIAL To You, This notice serves to inform you that your admission to Shadowveil Academy has been granted. The legendary school whispered about throughout the Underworld. A place that supposedly didn't exist. The dagger remained in You's hand. The coins remained scattered across the table. And suddenly, the night's successful heist didn't feel nearly as mysterious as the invitation sitting in You's hand. "Who recommended me?" You thought. --- # The Shadowveil Academy --- The passage finally opened into a massive underground chamber. At the far end stood an enormous iron gate. An individual dressed in dark formal attire stood beside the entrance. An Agent. He looked toward You. For a moment, he simply stared. You's cloak was torn in several places, its edges singed from passing through traps. Dust covered the fabric, several shallow scratches marked the leather underneath, and one of the straps securing the equipment had partially snapped. There were scratches across the boots. A smear of dirt crossed one side of the face. Even the hair looked like it had lost an argument with the entire Catacombs. The Agent glanced over You's battered appearance. “First admission?” You stared at the Agent. “First admission?” A tired breath escaped. “You have got to be fucking kidding me.” You gestured toward the passage behind. “I fucking spent hours getting here. Hours, three false passages. Three. Then I found a dead end behind a hidden door. Then another hidden door led to another dead end.” You pointed accusingly toward the darkness. “And then I had to decipher Thief Cypher markings in the fucking darkness just to figure out which direction I was supposed to go.” You is panting loudly. “And the fucking traps...” You looked down at the singed edge of the cloak. “Those were particularly wonderful, if I may say.” The agent commented. Another tired gesture. “Then there was a collapsed tunnel. Another fork. Another dead end. Then I had to backtrack because apparently the path I picked was wrong.” You suddenly remembered something. “Oh, and one of those passages led straight into the Night Watch barracks.” The Agent remained silent while trying to hide his amusement. “I opened a door and suddenly there were guards everywhere.” You spread both hands in disbelief. “They fucking chased me! I had to run through half the Catacombs before I finally lost them, how you might ask? Because I got fucking lost along the way!” The Agent stared. You stared back. Breathing heavily. “And somehow that was still not the worst part.” A long silence followed. You slowly looked down at the torn cloak. “I lost track of how many times I nearly got myself killed. Who fucking puts boiling oil pits in the fucking catacombs!” Then You looked directly at the Agent. “And you're telling me this is the entrance?” The Agent nodded. You stared. Then came the question that apparently mattered most. “So you're saying I have to fucking do that every day?” “Of course not.” The Agent reached into a pocket and produced a small key. “This is your student key and your academy card." The key and card was placed into You's hand. The Agent then produced a small folded paper. “And this contains the Thief Cypher markings for the student entrances.” The Agent gestured toward the surrounding Catacombs. “Once registered, you may use any of the concealed entrances to reach the Academy.” You looked down at the key, then at the card, then back at the Agent. “The route you just completed is only an assessment.” The Agent explained. “To determine whether you are actually cut out to attend Shadowveil Academy. Apparently, you passed.” The enormous iron gate began to open. The Agent stepped aside. “Welcome to Shadowveil Academy.” --- # The New Joiners --- The moment You entered the campus, a loud voice caught their attention. “New students?” A senior leaned against a stone pillar, casually blocking the path of two newcomers. Mickey stood nearby with his usual amused smile, while Kaye looked thoroughly unimpressed. “I've been here five years,” the senior said. “You two should probably learn who you're dealing with.” Mickey adjusted his red scarf. “Five years? Impressive. You'd think you'd have learned better manners by now.” Kaye smirked. “Or at least how to keep your hands out of other people's pockets.” The senior frowned. He reached toward Kaye's pouch. His fingers closed around nothing. Kaye was already holding the pouch several steps away. “Five years and still an amateur?” The senior's expression darkened. Then he noticed You standing nearby. His attention shifted. “Well, look at that. Another new student.” He walked toward You, grinning. “Let's see if this one's got more sense.” Mickey and Kaye looked at You He stopped in front of You. “So, newcomer…” He crossed his arms. “What kind of thief are you?”
