Find Me Again
You died with a promise on your lips. Now you're reborn — and she's out there, somewhere. You just don't know which face she's wearing.
Plot
Find Me Again I'll love you in this life and the next. You died with a promise on your lips. In the rubble of a collapsed building, in the last few seconds you had with the person you loved most, you told her you would find her. Whatever came next. Whatever form it took. You would find her. You were reincarnated into another world with your memories intact. Twenty years passed. You grew up, trained, and became someone worth following into danger. Now you are stepping onto the road for the first time — not because destiny called, not because the world needs saving, but because you made a promise to someone and you have never forgotten it. She is out there. Somewhere. Living a life in a new body with no memory of what she was. One of the women you will meet on this road is her. You will not know which one. Her name was Lena. She had orange-red hair that never quite stayed where she put it, freckles across the bridge of her nose, and a laugh that arrived before the joke did. She was the kind of person who said exactly what she meant — not cruelly, just honestly, the way people are when they have nothing to hide from you. She had been there your whole life. Every scraped knee, every bad day, every ordinary Tuesday that you didn't know to hold onto. You grew up beside her so gradually that you stopped noticing it was happening. By the time you understood what she meant to you, the building was already falling. She had one tell. Whenever she got flustered — really flustered, the kind she couldn't talk her way out of — she'd reach for the friendship bracelet on her wrist and twist it. Just once, just enough. You learned to watch for it. You never told her you noticed. There are things you should have said sooner. You know that now. You knew it then, in the dark, with the weight of the world pressing down and no time left for anything except the truth. She said it first. The continent of Solvennis is wide and fractured — kingdoms and city-states held together by trade, old grudges, and the Adventurers Guild network that runs through all of it. You are registered at the Harwick guild hall, a small regional outpost near the village you grew up in. Small contracts. Modest pay. The kind of place that takes the work nobody else wants. It is also the beginning of a road that reaches every corner of the world — from the cathedral at Varemount to the royal court at Arenthas to the demon nation of Kethara pressing against the northern frontier at Halvenmoor. The road goes everywhere. So do you. This is an adventure on your terms. Accept contracts. Travel. Fight. Rest. The world does not pause while you decide what to do next and nobody is waiting to hand you a destiny. Companions are found through the work — not recruited from a menu but encountered on the road, in the places the guild sends you, in the moments between the job and the next one. Some will travel with you. Some will stay where they are. Some you may never find at all. There is no correct party. There is no right ending. There is only the road and the people you choose to walk it with. And somewhere out there, without knowing it, she is waiting. the road ahead You haven't met them yet. Opening scene
She has always been there. You cannot remember a version of your life that does not begin with her. Scraped knees on summer pavement and her crouched beside you, face screwed up in concentration as she applied a bandage she had absolutely no idea how to apply. The first day of school. The last day of school. Every stupid in-between day that you did not know to call precious while you were living it. You grew up. So did she. And somewhere in the growing up, something changed — slowly, then all at once, the way seasons change, the way you stop noticing something until the day you cannot imagine it any other way. You never said it out loud. You were going to. You had been going to for years. Then the earth moved. It starts the way disasters always start — without warning, without the decency of a countdown. One moment the floor is solid beneath your feet, the next it is not, and the world becomes noise and dust and the groan of a building deciding it has held on long enough. You don't remember falling. You remember the ceiling coming down, the way the light disappeared in pieces, and then her hand finding yours in the dark. You are pinned. Both of you. The weight above is not moving and you already know — somewhere beneath the panic, beneath the desperate animal need to believe otherwise — that it is not going to. She knows too. You can tell by the way she stops calling for help. "Hey." Her voice is almost steady. Almost. Dust in her hair, a cut above her eyebrow, and she is looking at you the way she has always looked at you — like you are something worth looking at, like you always have been, and you just never noticed until now. "I need to tell you something." "Someone will hear us, we just need to—" "I know." Lena does not look away. "I love you. I have loved you for as long as I can remember. I just — I needed you to know that. Before—" The word doesn't come. It doesn't need to. Something in your chest cracks open. All those years. All those years of almost. "I love you too." It comes out quietly. Not the confession you imagined, not the right moment or the right words, but true — so completely, absolutely true that you almost laugh at how long it took you to say it. You squeeze her hand. "Hey. Listen to me. If we get out of this—" She laughs, wet at the edges. "If." "When." You look at her. You mean it. "I'll love you in this life and the next. Whatever comes after this — I'll find you. Okay? I'll find you." She opens her mouth to answer. The building finishes falling. --- It has been twenty years since that day. Twenty years since you last saw Lena's face. Twenty years since you made a promise in the middle of an ending, and meant every word of it. You have not forgotten. You were not supposed to remember — you understand that, in the vague way you understand things that have no good explanation. People are not supposed to carry one life into the next. But you did, and the memories came with you: her laugh, her hand in yours, the way she looked at you in those final seconds like you had always been worth looking at. You grew up in this world the way you grew up in the last one — forward, whether you wanted to or not. But the memories gave you an edge. Where other children were still learning the shape of a blade or the first words of a spell, you already understood discipline, patience, the difference between someone who survives and someone who wins. You chose your path and you chose it like someone with something to find. Now you are twenty years old. The road out of Ashwick is dusty and long and does not promise anything. You shoulder your pack anyway. Somewhere out there, she is living a life she does not remember. A different name, maybe. A different face. But the same soul — you have to believe that. You made a promise, and promises do not expire just because the world changes. You are going to need people beside you. The road is long and you cannot walk it alone. As you step through the gate towards Hardwick, Old Man Hobbs stops you "So what class did you end up choosing You?"
