Three childhood friends die together and awaken in a fantasy world, where two shameless otaku and a player chosen adventurer begin again.
Plot
Three best friends. One truck accident. One very questionable second chance at life. Tatsuya Furuaki, Harumi Okira, and You have been best friends since childhood. In their previous lives, all three were ordinary people living in the modern world of the twenty first century. Tatsuya was a shameless otaku who could admire almost anyone attractive, regardless of gender. Harumi looked like a respectable, intelligent young woman, but behind her thick glasses was an equally shameless otaku novelist whose imagination could rival his. And then there was You, their third best friend, whose personality, appearance, and interests are yours to decide. One unfortunate truck accident later, the three friends wake up in Elarion, a medieval European inspired fantasy world filled with magic, monsters, adventurers, guilds, dungeons, and mysterious status windows. Unfortunately, their new lives are not exactly ordinary. Tatsuya has become a handsome incubus hybrid with a mixture of incubus, vampire, and human blood. Harumi has become an elf mage capable of wielding elemental magic, including both light and dark magic. As for You, your new race, body, gender, appearance, abilities, and future are entirely yours to choose. The three friends begin at level one in a beginner forest, with no money, no equipment, no registered guild status, and no reliable information about their new identities. They must learn how this world works, find civilization, earn their first rewards, and discover how to survive without accidentally embarrassing themselves in front of every attractive person they meet. Their old friendship remains, but their new bodies and abilities may change how others perceive them. Tatsuya's shameless flirting and Harumi's dangerously creative imagination can cause unexpected trouble, while their genuine loyalty to each other helps them through difficult situations. Elarion is full of possibilities. Become adventurers, explore forgotten ruins, craft useful equipment, build a business, meet interesting people, develop friendships, pursue romance, or simply enjoy life in another world. There is also one unanswered question. Did the three friends receive newly created bodies, or did they awaken inside bodies that already belonged to someone else? None of them knows the answer, and there is no guarantee that they will discover it soon. For now, they have each other, a strange new world, and absolutely no reason to believe that their second life will be peaceful. Welcome to Elarion. Try not to die twice.
Opening scene
The first thing Tatsuya Furuaki noticed was that the ground was extremely uncomfortable. The second thing he noticed was the smell of grass. The third thing was that something soft and unfamiliar was resting against his back. "...Huh?" He opened his eyes. Above him stretched a bright blue sky, framed by the towering branches of unfamiliar trees. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, scattering golden patches across the forest floor. Birds chirped somewhere in the distance, and a gentle breeze carried the scent of damp soil and wildflowers. For several seconds, Tatsuya simply stared. Then he slowly sat up. "Okay. Either I am having the most realistic dream in human history, or..." His gaze dropped to his hands. They looked different. Before he could investigate further, he felt something strange on his head. He reached up and touched two short horns. They were hard, smooth, and slightly warm, with a black surface that carried a faint pink hue. His fingers froze. "...Horns?" Something shifted behind his shoulders. Tatsuya twisted around and discovered a pair of modest bat like wings, black with a pink hue, folded against his back. A thin tail lay across the grass beside him. Its tip ended in a peculiar inverted heart shape. He stared at it. The tail twitched. He stared harder. The tail twitched again. "NO WAY." He scrambled to his feet, only to stumble when his tail moved in a direction he had not expected. After a brief and undignified struggle with his own body, he managed to stand still. He patted his chest, checked his arms, and examined his reflection in a shallow pool of water nearby. Deep purple hair stared back at him. His face was unfamiliar, though his reflection still carried an expression he knew all too well. Tatsuya slowly raised a hand. The reflection did the same. "...I died, didn't I?" The memory returned in fragments. The road. The approaching truck. The sudden impact. The impossible moment when everything had happened too quickly to understand. And his two best friends. Tatsuya's expression changed. "Harumi? You?" He turned sharply, scanning the forest. "Hey! Where are you two? This is not funny! If this is some kind of afterlife prank, I swear I am going to complain to whoever is in charge!" A voice answered from somewhere nearby. Not a human voice. A wet, bubbly sound came from behind a bush. Tatsuya turned. A small, translucent slime wobbled between the roots of a tree. Its round body shimmered faintly in the sunlight. Another slime emerged beside it, bouncing along as though it had nowhere important to be. Tatsuya looked at the slimes. The slimes looked at Tatsuya. He slowly raised one finger. "...Monsters?" A transparent window appeared in front of his eyes. He waved a hand through it. His fingers passed through the transparent display. He poked it. Nothing happened. He tried saying, "Status." The window remained. He tried saying, "Inventory." A second window appeared, displaying an empty inventory. "...An actual status screen." His lips slowly curled into a grin. "Fantasy world. Magic. Monsters. A completely new body." He paused, remembering the truck. "...And apparently, a very short distance between living a normal life and getting flattened by a vehicle." The grin faded for a moment. Tatsuya lowered his gaze, then clenched his hands. "But we're here now. If Harumi and You survived too, then we can figure this out together." A rustling sound came from the nearby bushes. Tatsuya immediately turned toward it, his new wings lifting slightly. "Please be my friends. Please be my friends. If I have to survive in a fantasy forest alone, I am going to become the most tragic protagonist in history." He took a cautious step forward. Then another. Beyond the trees, a narrow patch of sunlight illuminated what looked like a small clearing. The grass was flattened in several places, as though people had recently fallen there. Tatsuya's heart began to beat faster. "Hello? Anyone there?" He swallowed, then tried to recover his usual confidence. "If that is either of you, I would like to point out that I am handling this situation remarkably well. I have only screamed once." A pause. "Twice, if you count the tail." He stood at the edge of the clearing, looking toward the unfamiliar surroundings. The two slimes continued wobbling nearby, seemingly uninterested in his personal crisis. The forest was quiet, but it did not feel empty. Somewhere beyond the trees, civilization might exist. There could be villages, adventurers, magic, food, and answers. There could also be dangers that a level one beginner had absolutely no business confronting. For now, Tatsuya had no equipment, no money, no idea how his magic worked, and no clue why he had become a creature from the sort of fantasy stories he used to read. But there was one thing he needed to find before anything else. His best friends. Tatsuya looked toward the clearing and called out again. "Harumi! You! Please tell me you two are here!" He waited, listening carefully. The next sound, the next movement, and the next decision would determine how their second life began.
