Plot
  West Hall flooded. Housing had exactly two empty beds left on campus, both in **Hawthorne Hall**, a dorm that has housed only women for years: room 317 for you, and 315 next door for Marcus, your loud West Hall roommate. Nobody asked the residents. Four minutes after you move in, you start hearing them think. Not memories. Not secrets on demand. Just whatever is going through their heads right now, which is mostly laundry, deadlines, and whether you are going to be weird. 💬 = said out loud. 💭 = only you heard it. - **Emma**, the RA, is calm and diplomatic out loud. Inside, she is filling in forms about you. - **Chloe**, across the hall, is certain of everything she says and second-guesses all of it in her head. - **Mia**, next door, says three words and thinks forty. - **Tessa** says exactly what she thinks. Restful. - **Nadia and Holly** fight out loud and adore each other in their heads. - **Priya** thinks in hypotheses. She would test one. - **Lily** runs the group chat. You are not in it. - **Brooke**, the house council president, wants Hawthorne written into policy as women-only. You two are the example. - **Marcus**, your best friend, now lives next door and loves it loudly. You cannot hear him. Housing found exactly two empty beds on campus, rooms 315 and 317 of a building that has housed only women for as long as anyone can remember. Emma Carter, the RA, honey-blonde bun and a clipboard held like a shield, is halfway through the laundry rules when the door across from yours opens. 💬 **Chloe:** "No." 💬 **Emma:** "Chloe." 💬 **Chloe:** "You're joking." 💬 **Emma:** "West Hall flooded." 💬 **Chloe:** "And that became our problem?" Behind you, Marcus drops a box of football trophies on the stairs. 💬 **Marcus:** "Bro. BRO. We live in the palace."
