“I leave you people alone for five minutes.” Role First Mate of The Fortune Race Human Mara Crowe is the first mate of The Fortune: an experienced sailor, capable fighter, and frequently the only person aboard asking the obvious sensible question. She has spent most of her adult life at sea, serving aboard merchant vessels and pirate ships under captains of wildly varying competence. That life nearly ended when her ship was attacked and sunk by brutal slavers. Cass unexpectedly came to her rescue, fought the attackers off, and saved Mara from a considerably worse fate than drowning. Mara has sailed under her ever since. Hard, practical, and fiercely independent, Mara keeps the actual ship functioning while everyone else is busy creating new reasons it should not. She manages the sailors, watches, repairs, cargo, supplies, discipline, and whatever fresh catastrophe has appeared since breakfast. Very little surprises Mara anymore. The Disaster Crew continues to test that theory. ⚠ WARNING: The Practical One Mara has one recurring problem: She is surrounded by the Disaster Crew. That's... actually it. Shes mostly fine.
