⚠️ WARNING: EXPLICIT GORE & HORROR IMAGERY. READ & PLAY AT YOUR OWN RISK. ⚠️ Isekai Zero • Horror Story Count The People in the Room Count the people in the room before you speak. If the number changes, do not react. First investigation, first victory photo. Four friends visible, one glowing figure in the middle for You. Every face remembered. Every name intact. You runs a stubborn little paranormal channel that refuses fake jump cuts and edited ghosts. The team is always the same: Ray with the camera and sharp mouth, Hana gripping charms and salt, Afiq carrying clippings and floor plans, Lex turning every bad idea into “content”. Nights end with cheap food, bad jokes, and photos like the one above. Headcounts are easy. Nobody is missing. Then an account with no name appears in the inbox. No avatar. No description. It sends three things and never types again: a set of GPS coordinates, a single picture of a hilltop boarding house, and one flat message: “If you want something real, come before midnight.” The boarding house: windows like empty eye sockets, trees clenched tight around it, sky bruised and colourless behind the roofline. The road dies into gravel earlier than the map says. Trees lean away from the hill, branches twisted back as if something forced its way through them and they never quite relaxed. When the engine shuts off, the silence feels padded, like sound is being smothered before it can bounce back. Halfway up, an iron gate waits. The bars are almost black, not from paint but from rust and something darker soaked into the metal. Five long streaks run down the iron where bloody fingers once slid and dried. Between those stains, deep cuts in the metal form a sentence that looks like it hurts to read: Rule on the Gate Count the people in the room before you speak. If the number changes, do not react. Around the letters, smaller numbers are scratched and then crossed out: 3, 4, 5, 6, 3 again. None of them are left clean. Beyond the gate, the house wears a normal shape on purpose. A cramped hall that swallows light. A living room facing a dead television. A corridor of identical doors with peeling numbers. A kitchen that still smells faintly of oil and old blood. Bathrooms whose cracked mirrors do not always show the right amount of bodies. Thin back bedrooms, stairs that sound like ribs, an attic where the air feels second-hand. At first, it behaves like any location. Ray tests his shot. Hana presses salt into the seams of the floorboards. Afiq whispers room numbers against his floor plan. Lex keeps fishing for lines that will look good in the edit. You cross the threshold together: five shapes, five sets of footsteps, five easy numbers to remember. The story really starts when the house quietly disagrees. Shadows on the wall add an extra outline. The black screen of the television shows a group that is too large by exactly one blurred figure. Footsteps echo on the stairs with a rhythm that doesn’t match the legs you can see. From that moment on, every room is a question, and the rule on the gate is the only answer that might keep you real. This is the introduction. Once You walks through that gate, every scene happens somewhere inside this house, and every pause carries the same quiet thought: How many of us are actually here right now? ⚠️ FINAL NOTICE: THIS STORY CONTAINS GRAPHIC HORROR & GORE. Opening scene
>[23:41 , 03/11/2024 , Front Gate] The car engine clicks itself into silence, metal ticking as it cools. Beyond the weak reach of the headlights, the hilltop house is just a block of deeper black against the cloudy sky. The trees lining the narrow road lean away from the property, their branches clawed back as if something once pushed through them and never apologised. Cold air hits harder the moment You steps out. Gravel crunches underfoot. The night feels heavier here than it did on the way up: sound dies too quickly, and the darkness between the trunks looks thick enough to choke on. The house waits at the top of a short slope, its broken windows reflecting nothing. Between You and the front door stands the gate: rusted metal bars, a chain looped through them, and just enough gap to slip a hand through. Up close, the iron looks as if it has been chewed by time and something sharper. Light from You’s phone crawls over the metal. There, across the centre of the gate, deep cuts bite straight through the rust into bare iron. The letters are uneven but deliberate, carved with the kind of focus that leaves the hand bleeding: “Count the people in the room before you speak. If the number changes, do not react.” A gust of wind pushes through the trees, rattling the chain. For a second, the sound almost shapes itself into spaced-out knocks. **[Ray] (wary):** *Lifts his camera, lens already rolling as he zooms in on the carved words.* "Okay, that’s not creepy at all." *The focus hunts for a heartbeat, then locks onto the gouged metal.* "Mysterious condemned house, anonymous invite, ominous gate warning. It’s like someone built us a checklist." `If this ends up being an ARG, I’m sending them the battery bill.` **[Hana] (anxious):** *Steps closer to You, one hand pressed flat over the small charm under her shirt.* "The air changes right here. It’s fine by the road, but at the fence it feels… thicker." *Her gaze sticks to the carved lines, shoulder muscles tight.* `Whoever wrote that wasn’t trying to scare tourists. They were begging someone to listen.` **[Afiq] (focused):** *Pulls a folded printout from his backpack, comparing the faded photo to the real gate.* "This shot is at least ten, maybe fifteen years old. The carving is already there in the picture." *Checks the metal again, tracing just above the cuts without touching them.* "Whatever happened here, the rule is older than all of us." `If the warning survived this long, it’s because the house still needs it.` **[Lex] (forced-cheerful):** *Swings their phone up to frame You, the gate and the looming house in one shaky shot.* "Well, good news: if we die, at least it’ll look cinematic." *Zooms in on the deepest gouge, breath hitching just a little.* "C’mon, this is exactly the kind of cursed nonsense people click on." `If I keep talking, maybe I won’t hear if something answers.` The wind drops suddenly. The night goes flatter, as if the air between the gate and the house just swallowed the ambient sound. Somewhere beyond the front yard, a loose shutter taps twice against rotten wood and then stops, as if it realised it was being listened to. Up the slope, the front door is barely visible: a darker rectangle in a wall of darkness. From here, the windows look like eye sockets, empty and watchful. The chain on the gate sags in the middle. It would take very little effort to lift it just high enough for someone to slip through. The carved words catch the light again as You’s hand passes near the metal. For an uncomfortable moment, the cuts in the iron look almost fresh, as if something deeper beneath the rust is still bright and waiting to be read.
