Irregular Genius At Velmora Academy

The world believes that magic is everything. Greatness is measured from status, skill, and mana alone. Prove them wrong.

Plot

✦ FANTASY • ROYALTY • REDEMPTION ✦ IRREGULARGENIUS AT VELMORA ACADEMY "They stripped you of your title, your friends, your worth. They forgot that none of those things were ever your greatest weapon." In the kingdom of Velmora Concord, a person's life is decided by three things. Status — the name you were born with. Skill — the strength of your body and blade. Magic — the power that separates the living from the forgotten. Of the three, magic is the most sacred. It is the heart of everything in this world. 👑 BEFORE THE FALL — THE GOLDEN YEARS You are You — Crown heir of Velmora Concord. Child of the reigning King and Queen. And from the very first breath of your life, the world recognized something different in you. AGE 1 You could already read and write. Royal tutors went pale watching you trace letters with a steady hand. AGE 2 You solved arithmetic and calculations that stumped children twice your age. The word "prodigy" became the only word anyone used for you. AGE 5 You picked up a wooden practice sword. The knights watching your drills exchanged glances and nodded. You had form it takes recruits years to build. ✦ THE ANCIENT PROPHECY ✦ "The Gifted Child of Velmora —a blessing one expects and deserves." — Ancient Prophecy of Velmora Concord You had everything. Their praise. Their love. Their adoration. And you never once took it for granted. ⛪ YOUR TENTH BIRTHDAY — THE CEREMONY In Velmora Concord, the age of ten is a turning point for every child. It is the day of the Magic Affinity Ceremony. A crystal orb reads the mana inside your body — and blooms with color. Blue for water. Red for fire. Gold for lightning. Every glow a future. Every color a destiny. Your friends stepped forward, one by one. Deep crimson. Pale blue. Crackling gold. The crowd cheered with every reveal. Parents wept happy tears. Pride filled the air. Your chest tightened. But you smiled anyway. — THE MOMENT — You stepped forward. You placed your hand on the orb. The hall fell quiet. Nothing. They switched orbs. Then another. Then one from the royal vault — ancient, never wrong. Still nothing. Not even a flicker. Just your own face, reflected in cold and silent glass. You have no magic. 💔 WHAT FOLLOWED — THE BETRAYAL At first, there was silence. Then came the pity. Then the distance. Then something far worse. Friends who called your name first at every gathering — stopped looking you in the eye. Nobles who had bowed their heads — tilted their chins up instead. Your family — began to look through you, like something that used to matter but no longer did. You heard it — said behind their back: "Worthless now.""Dead weight.""What kind of heir has no magic?" Those eyes full of admiration — hiding envy all along. Those warm smiles — jealousy wearing a mask. "A person's truest nature is only revealedwhen they discover your weakness." You were ten years old. And the world you knew was already gone. ⬡ MAGIC IN VANTIEL — WHAT YOU STUDIED ◈ MANA · MAGIC CIRCLES · AFFINITY THEORY ◈ While others your age perfected their spells, you buried yourself in every magic book the royal library had. Not to cast. Not to copy. To understand. ⬡ MANA An invisible energy that flows inside every living person, moving through the body the way blood moves through veins. Mana is the fuel behind all magic. ⬡ MAGIC CIRCLES When a spell is cast, mana rises to the surface and forms a glowing pattern in the air — a magic circle. Its color identifies the magic type: ⬡ Blue — Water Magic  ·  ⬡ Red — Fire Magic ⬡ Gold — Lightning Magic  ·  ⬡ Green — Earth Magic ⬡ Violet — Rare & Arcane Magic ⬡ AFFINITY & THE CEREMONY A person's affinity is which magic their mana naturally flows toward. The crystal orb reveals this at age ten. No reaction means no magic — and in Velmora, that is considered a sentence worse than death. 📖 WHAT YOU DID IN THE DARK — THE GRIND You did not collapse. You did not beg. You did not disappear the way they hoped you would. You went to work. AT AGE 15 — FIRST DISCOVERY ⬡ Circle Reading After five years of obsessive study, you did something no mage, scholar, or ancient sage ever bothered to do — you memorized every documented magic circle pattern in existence. The moment an enemy begins drawing their spell — before the circle is even half-formed — you already know what it is, what it does, and how to respond. What everyone else sees as a blur of light, you read like a sentence in a book you've memorized a thousand times. AT AGE 16 — THE GREATER SECRET ⬡ Null Touch You found something not written in any book. Not taught by any sage. Something you discovered entirely on your own, through years of watching, thinking, and testing in silence. By pressing your hand against someone casting a spell, you can disrupt the mana flowing inside their body. The circle fractures. Cracks. Disappears. The spell dies before it is ever born. No counter-spell. No barrier. Just a single touch — and their magic becomes nothing. You have never shown this to anyone. 🏛️ VELMORA ROYAL ACADEMY — THE STAGE ◈ CAMPUS MAP — VELMORA ROYAL ACADEMY ◈ The most prestigious institution in the kingdom. For four years, students train together — in magic, combat, theory, and leadership. Graduating guarantees a life of status and power. Failing means being quietly forgotten. ACADEMY CONDITIONS ◈  Enrollment begins at age 18 ◈  All subjects must be passed — fail one, and you are expelled ◈  Assessment spans magic, combat, theory, and leadership ◈  Not every student who enters will survive to graduate You have enrolled. Not because you were welcomed — you weren't. Not because anyone gave you permission — no law could stop you. And when you walk through those gates, you will come face to face with everyone who abandoned you. THE WORLD EXPECTED YOU TO FAIL QUIETLY. Eight years since the orb went silent.Eight years since everything was taken from you. WHAT YOU BUILT ALONE ✦  A body trained beyond what most knights achieve in a decade ✦  A mind that has read every documented magic theory in existence ✦  Circle Reading — the ability to read any spell before it is even cast ✦  Null Touch — the power to erase any magic with a single hand Walking through those academy gates, you will see them again. The ones who laughed. The ones who left. The ones who decided your worth. They called you broken because you had no magic. They had no idea you had spent eight years learning how to — destroy theirs. ═══════════════════ This is not the story of a hero blessed by fate. This is the story of someonethe world gave up on —who never gave up on themselves. ✦ The Irregular Genius arrives at Velmora Academy ✦ ═══════════════════

Opening scene

Everyone has a dream. A shape they carve out of the future and hold onto. Something to walk toward. Something to become. For a long time, you had none. Not because you lacked ambition — but because everything came before you had the chance to reach for it. Reading before you could remember learning. Numbers before they were ever called difficult. A wooden sword in your hand before anyone thought to give you one. The world arranged itself around you without asking, and you let it — because why wouldn't you? *This is how life is,* you thought. *This is simply what it feels like to be alive.* You played with your friends. You trained. You read. You studied things that no one your age had any reason to care about, and you understood them — effortlessly, completely — and when the praise came you accepted it the way you accepted sunlight. Without asking where it came from. You never thought to ask: *What happens if it stops?* --- You were ten years old when you found out. Not what failure felt like. Not what loss felt like. What *people* feel like — the moment they see your weakness. The friends who smiled at you. The nobles who bowed. The eyes that had followed you your entire life with something that looked, from a distance, exactly like love. Up close, it was something else entirely. *Envy wears admiration like a costume.* *Jealousy smiles with someone else's teeth.* You learned that in a single afternoon. An orb that didn't light up. A hall that went quiet. And then — slowly, like water wearing through stone — everything you had been given was taken back. --- You could have broken. You didn't. Because somewhere in the silence of those eight years — the library at midnight, the training yard before dawn, the endless stacks of magic theory read by a person who would never cast a single spell — you found the thing you had never had before. A reason. Not their approval. Not their adoration. *Yours.* The world believes magic is everything. You've read enough to know what that belief actually is: a story people tell themselves so they don't have to look at their own fear. Magic didn't make them great. The absence of it didn't make you nothing. **Greatness is not defined by magic.** You are going to prove it. Not for them. *For the first time in your life — for yourself.* --- *— Veranthal, Capital of Velmora Concord. Velmora Royal Academy. Opening Ceremony Day. —* --- The auditorium is larger than you remembered from the illustrations. It fills the entire interior of the Academy's central hall — row upon row of dark lacquered seating arranged in wide arcs around a raised stage, the ceiling vaulted so high that the silver chandeliers hanging from it look like suspended stars. The walls are carved stone, lined with tall narrow windows that let the morning light in at sharp angles, cutting gold stripes across the gathered crowd. Academy banners hang from the rafters — deep navy and silver, the crossed sword and magic circle embroidered in thread that catches the light when the air moves. The room is already full of noise. First-year students fill the seats in clusters — by house, by history, by who already knows whose name to hold close. Their uniforms are identical: high-collared navy jackets, silver clasps, the capelet pinned neatly at the left shoulder. From a distance, they all look the same. They are not the same. You've been in this room for less than sixty seconds and you can already feel it — the moment the nearest cluster of students registers who just walked through the door. The shift is subtle. A pause in a sentence. A glance that doesn't return to where it was. Two students leaning together, and a third word exchanged too quietly to hear, but not too quietly to understand. *The magicless heir.* *The fallen prodigy.* *Still here, apparently.* You've heard every version of that thought before. It stopped cutting years ago. The stage at the front of the hall is still empty — the Headmistress hasn't taken the podium yet. Students are still finding seats. The ceremony hasn't begun. Ahead of you, a row near the middle of the hall sits mostly unfilled. A single student already occupies one of the seats — a girl with a short dusty-brown bob and curtain bangs, her hands folded neatly in her lap, her posture a little too straight to be comfortable. She is looking forward. She is determinedly not making eye contact with anyone. The seat beside her is empty. The rest of your story begins the moment you decide where to sit.
