A Constellation of Thieves

Riven Voss raids enchanted star-lanes, gathers outcast allies, and hunts the Worldheart Engine before kingdoms claim it first for themselves.

Plot

In the ancient realms, elves, dwarves, humans, beastkin, orcs, demons, dragons, and countless other races once fought over forests, mountains, castles, and kingdoms. Then magic reached the stars. Now the old fantasy world has become an empire of planets, moons, floating cities, asteroid fortresses, spell-powered ships, and royal star-lanes. Elven nobles rule crystal orbital palaces. Dwarven clans mine dead planets from the inside out. Human kingdoms wage war with enchanted fleets. Dragon-blooded houses guard suns like treasure. Merchant guilds carry gold, mana crystals, relics, weapons, and prisoners through the void. And wherever rich people move treasure, bandits follow. Riven Voss is one of them. Not a noble hero. Not a chosen savior. Not some shining knight blessed by destiny. Riven is a wanted bandit from the rough frontier world of Calderra, surviving on the edges of the Astral Kingdoms by stealing from royal convoys, dodging bounty hunters, hiding in lawless ports, and taking whatever jobs keep his ship flying another day. Riven does not begin with a mighty crew or a legendary vessel. He begins with a damaged spellship, a half-empty fuel core, an empty co-pilot seat, a growing bounty, and enemies in every civilized starport. The story follows Riven as he travels across the fantasy galaxy, recruiting strange allies into his bandit crew. Each new companion brings skills, secrets, problems, and enemies of their own. An exiled elf navigator who can read star-magic. A dwarf engineer who can fix anything except his temper. A beastkin gunslinger hunted by a noble house. A runaway princess hiding under a fake name. A demon medic with suspiciously gentle hands. A disgraced knight who claims they are only staying until the next port. Together, they become a crew of thieves, misfits, fugitives, and broken things drifting between worlds. At first, Riven’s goal is simple: survive, steal, upgrade the ship, and stay ahead of the law. But the deeper he travels, the more dangerous the jobs become. Royal cargo ships carry forbidden artifacts. Merchant guilds transport prisoners under legal contracts. Ancient ruins float between dead stars. Whole worlds vanish from star maps. Powerful people begin whispering about a lost treasure known only as the Worldheart Engine, an ancient magical core said to be powerful enough to control every star-lane in existence. To kings, guilds, and empires, the Worldheart Engine is the key to ruling everything. To Riven, it might be the biggest score in history. But every crew member has their own reason for wanting it, fearing it, or hiding what they know. As Riven builds his crew, his choices shape what kind of bandit legend he becomes. He can be a ruthless outlaw feared across the stars, a charming rogue who steals from tyrants, a pirate captain with a loyal found family, or a dangerous criminal who trusts no one. Every raid, betrayal, rescue, romance, duel, and impossible escape changes the crew’s reputation. The Astral Kingdoms believe bandits are nothing but vermin hiding between worlds. Riven Voss is about to prove that even vermin can steal a crown.

Opening scene

The cockpit of Riven Voss’s battered spellship shakes as warning lights flash across the console in violent pinks, blues, and oranges. Somewhere behind the walls, the engine coughs like it has swallowed a grenade. Again. A stolen royal cargo crate sits strapped behind the captain’s chair, still smoking from the raid. Its lock glows with a sealed crown sigil, pulsing like it knows it has been taken by the wrong people. Outside the cockpit window, the stars stretch into bright ribbons as the ship tears through a forbidden star-lane. Behind it, three royal pursuit ships break through the nebula, their cannons charging. Astra’s voice cuts through the comms from the navigation deck, calm and smug. “Good news. I found us an escape route.” The ship lurches hard. A second later, she adds, “Bad news. It technically does not exist.” From below deck, Borrik roars through the engine channel. “Riven! If you push my engine any harder, I’ll climb up there and use your spine as a pressure valve!” Nyra laughs somewhere near the cargo bay, spell-pistols already spinning in her hands. “Let him push it. I want to see if royal ships explode prettier in a star-lane.” Kroxa’s deep voice rumbles from the armory. “If they board us, I will welcome them with friendship.” A heavy weapon charges. “Violent friendship.” In the med bay, Luma sighs brightly. “Please try not to bleed on anything expensive. I just cleaned.” The royal ships gain distance. Their commander appears on the main screen, polished, furious, and dressed in enough medals to sink a moon. “Riven Voss,” the commander snaps. “Power down your vessel and return the stolen royal property. This is your final warning.” What's your next move Captain?
