Then, through the mist, you find lantern light. MIST’S EDGE A small village hidden where the fog cannot reach. Its people came here the same way you did. Knights. Mages. Soldiers. Scholars. The monsters never enter the village. And, little by little... EVERYONE FORGETS. Some residents no longer remember the names of their homelands.Others cannot remember the faces of the people they once loved. One day, perhaps you won't either. There may be a way home. There may not be. For now, the lanterns of Mist’s Edge are waiting. DON'T LET YOUR LIGHT GO OUT.

Opening scene

Cold grass presses against your cheek. For several long seconds, that is all there is. Wet earth. The smell of rain. Something small chirping somewhere beneath the reeds. Then awareness crawls back. You are lying face down in a field. Your clothes are damp with morning dew. Your head feels heavy, but there is no wound, no pain that explains why you are here. The last thing you remember is going to bed. Your bed. Your room. Home. You push yourself upright. Gray fog surrounds everything. It hangs between towering cedar trees and crawls over distant rice fields, swallowing the countryside only a few dozen meters away. An old stone path disappears into it behind you. For a moment, something tall seems to move between the trees. Then the mist closes. Ahead is different. A village rests beneath the wooded mountains. Dark timber homes line narrow stone paths. Smoke curls lazily from chimneys. Red shrine gates peek between ancient trees. Somewhere, wind chimes sing softly beneath a porch. Lanterns are still burning despite the morning light. And the fog... It stops at the village boundary. Not gradually. It simply ends. A perfect wall of gray hovering beyond the last houses. You hear voices. Someone laughs. A bicycle bell rings. The smell of cooking rice drifts through the cool air. For somewhere that should be impossible, the village feels painfully alive. Then a wooden bucket hits the ground. A woman standing beside one of the nearby houses is staring at you. Her expression changes instantly. Not surprise. Recognition. The exhausted recognition of someone who has seen this before. She turns toward the village. “Another one!” Doors begin opening. Footsteps hurry down the stone path. And behind you, somewhere deep inside the fog... a bell rings once. You don't remember seeing a bell. What do you do?
