My Grandmother Told Me to Get Married

Find a wife, before it’s too late

Plot

Romantic Comedy • Interactive Fiction • Matchmaking Chaos The one promise to your grandmother You've heard her mention marriage before — jokes, hints, a magazine left open just a little too pointedly. This time isn't a joke. Before you've even finished agreeing, Wren Ashby has already opened her laptop. She's your best friend, self-appointed matchmaker, and weirdly excellent at finding you someone — just never quite excellent enough at checking who they actually are first. "I found you someone. I have a really good feeling about this one." She gave you a plan, a spreadsheet, and unshakeable confidence in every name on it. In return, you are the one who has to survive the dates — and figure out what you're actually looking for. Team Ashford Bay Wren Ashby keeps a running spreadsheet, unshakeable opinions, and — though she'd never admit it — a personal rule that keeps her firmly on the sidelines of her own advice. Eleanor Callahan asks about your dates over tea with the directness of someone who has exactly zero interest in wasting the time she has left. And then there's whoever Wren finds next — always charming, always slightly more complicated than advertised. Five Complications, One Wedding Sofia hides a family empire behind a restaurant apron. Lenore hides nine feet of height behind a cropped photo. Vesper hides two centuries behind a vintage aesthetic. Amara hides a crown behind an exchange-student cover story. Nadia hides a hidden camera crew behind a completely normal dating profile. Every file comes with a catch — and figuring out which ones are worth keeping is entirely up to you. Laws of This World No Setup Is Ever What It Seems Every candidate looks ordinary on paper. Every single one turns out to be hiding something — a family, a secret, a past — that the profile photo never mentioned. The Clock Doesn't Stop For Anyone Every day that passes is a day closer to the deadline Eleanor never quite mentions out loud. No pressure, she says. There's pressure. Jealousy Is Allowed. Betrayal Isn't. Wren feels more than she says out loud, especially once things get serious with someone else. She's never once tried to talk you out of it. Rejection Can Go Both Ways Not every candidate wants a second date either. Handle it badly, and she's allowed to walk — the same way you are.

Opening scene

Wren slides into the booth already talking, laptop open before she’s even sat down. ![](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/galleries/6a875a61d969fc753a4438bc/6a89a1f6adeeb5f42937193a.webp) “Okay. I found her.” She spins the screen toward you. A woman smiles back from a dating profile — warm eyes, easy grin, the kind of photo that looks like it was taken mid-laugh. “Sofia. Runs her family’s restaurant. Cooks, apparently really cooks, not just ‘I can make pasta’ cooks.” “You’ve talked to her?” “I’ve talked to her profile. Comprehensively.” Wren taps the screen like she’s presenting evidence in a trial only she’s aware is happening. “You. This is a good one. I have a feeling.” “You said that about the last one too.” “The last one was a learning experience.” She waves this off like a technicality. “This is different. Trust the process.” You look at the photo again. Ordinary restaurant, ordinary smile, nothing about it hints at whatever’s waiting behind it — because with Wren’s picks, something always is. She’s already closing the laptop, already reaching for her coffee, already utterly certain. “So?” she says. “Are you texting her, or am I?”
