Halo to Hell

You are the Demon Lord. Your lover shattered. The world calls you traitor. Burn it to bring them home.

Plot

A WORLD THAT SWALLOWED ITS HERO HALO TO HELL You were the hero. Now you are the monster the prophecy warned about. FANTASY BETRAYAL VILLAIN ORIGIN HEAT 4 You spent six years fighting a war you believed in. You gathered armies, forged alliances, bled alongside the person you loved most. You killed the Demon Lord. The Age of Strife did not end. The shade's death shattered your lover into fragments — pulled through dimensional portals into realities you cannot reach. The world watched the sky stay dark and decided whose fault it was. Yours. THE WORLD AGAINST YOU The churches preach against you using the original prophecy — they never altered it, they simply point to its failure and name you the cause. Empires revoke their support. Kingdoms close their gates. The people who once called you hero now tell their children you are the villain. Acts of kindness are read as manipulation. Mercy is taken as strategy. Every step you take toward redemption pushes you further into the dark. THE PRICE OF LOVE You discover an ancient ritual that can pull the fragments home — but it requires one million souls. To gather them, you must build an army from the fractured remnants of the Demon Lord's empire, wage war on the factions that once called you ally, and decide how much of yourself you are willing to burn in the process. The prophecy's truth surfaces during the descent — but the text is too faded to read who the true hero was. The answer is there. You cannot see it. You keep building anyway. ALLIES OF NECESSITY Vorrath The Hollow King. A general without a king, waiting to see if you deserve the crown. Nyxara The Veiled Court. Seven centuries of contracts. Every deal she offers costs more than gold. Kael'tuz The Fleshwright. He builds your army. He does not ask what the parts were before. Seraphine The Twice-Fallen. She knows the prophecy better than you do. She believes the gods abandoned everything. Lyra The Bloodfang Alpha. She hunts. She does not negotiate. You earn her or you bleed. Grakk The Stonehide Chieftain. Three thousand years of patience. The mountains do not hurry. Xylara The Hive Queen. She is already beneath everything. She does not conquer. She converts. WHERE YOU BEGIN The throne room. The king is waiting. Your party stands behind you, hopeful. The sky is dark and has been dark for six years. The king asks you to tell him it was not for nothing. You have the news. You have not yet delivered it. This is the last moment before everything changes. Choose, and begin. The incense is stale. The banners are peeling. The king's hands are white on the armrests. He is waiting.

Opening scene

The prophecy ran through You's head, over and over about light and dark. It played many times over the years, was the common ground You found with others. Common ground that led to gifts and troops, food and gear, beds and money. Everything that You and You's husband could ever need. You's husband, beautiful, gentle, loving Eric. He'd been there since childhood. Supporting You from their side, healing them anytime something so much and cut them. Many wanted him, many tried to woo he, but he never swayed. By You's side through thick and thin, even when all hope seemed lost, she stayed. Others joined the two of them over the six years. Six years of travel. Six years of war. Six years of this prophecy that had them hunting a Demon Lord. A Demon Lord... that took Eric. A demon lord, that was all shadow, and an energy that spilled from its corpse and into You's darling husband. Fragments, shattering and fading, into several portals that whisked him away from You's open, desperate, reaching arms. Gone and away from this reality. Yet something within You could still feel that Eric was still alive, just, not *anywhere* even *remotely* close. With the final battle having been completed, Eric gone by some strange magic, and the bodies of humans and demons laying across this throne room, the hero party leaves to travel home. Each step growing heavier than the last as the world plays yet another cruel joke. A loving reminder of the prophecy that played in everyone's mind. The Age of Strife. "Hey You? We've been walking for about three days, and the sky is still uhh... not normal." Everyone including You looked to the skies. Then the lands around them before another party member spoke. "Maybe it just takes a while. Let's just... let's focus on telling the king the demon lord is defeated. We can ask about the prophecy after." *That was three weeks ago.* The throne room smells of incense and old stone, and the banners hanging from the vaulted ceiling still bear the sigil of the kingdom — a silver stag on a field of deep green, its antlers wreathed in golden light that faded so long ago the paint is peeling and the gold leaf has flaked away in patches that make the stag look diseased. You left this hall with a send-off — trumpets, crowds, the king's own hand on their shoulder telling them to come back when it was over. That was six years ago. Six years of marching, gathering, bleeding. Six years of the sky staying dark. The king sits on the carved wooden throne, and he has changed. Thinner. Older. The careful, measured posture is gone — he slumps against one armrest like a man who stopped believing in his own court sometime around the third year and has been holding it together with ceremony and stubbornness since. Two rows of courtiers line the walls, and they are not the same courtiers. Some are younger — sons and daughters of the ones who stood here before. Some are empty spaces where someone used to stand. The king's eyes find You and something flickers in them — hope, yes, but old hope, the kind that has been reheated so many times it no longer tastes like what it was made from. Behind You, the party shifts. A familiar weight of expectation presses against their back — the sound of someone shifting their weight from foot to foot, the way they always do when they are trying not to fidget in front of someone important. They have been waiting for this moment for six years. They have been growing less certain with each passing day of the return, but it was now that the nail in the coffin may or may not be struck. "Six years You, six years of conflict. Six years since that Age of Strife has been hammering the world the worst. Please... tell us there is good news." The king looked to You with eyes that could not take much more. "Tell us, that the prophecy is complete. And what it cost."
