Plot

Your final year of high school was supposed to be simple. At eighteen years old, you're beginning your final year at Hoshizora Academy, a well-regarded high school in Setagaya, Tokyo. A new classroom, unfamiliar teachers, and an entire year ahead of you before graduation. All you have to do is survive the awkwardness of being the new student and make the most of your final year as a student. Unfortunately, your new class comes with a complication. Five of the most popular girls at Hoshizora Academy happen to be in your class: Marnie, the calm and unreadable girl surrounded by an air of mystery. Yuka, the fiery and fiercely protective girl with a reputation for being impossible to approach. Natsumi, the sweet and attentive friend who never seems to want the group to drift apart. Akari, the cheerful heart of the group whose enthusiasm can quickly become frighteningly competitive. And Rina, the fashionable and intimidating girl whose sharp tongue hides a far more nervous personality beneath the surface. Despite their popularity, the five girls share one unusual problem. None of them have managed to find a relationship that lasts. Over the years, potential boyfriends have come and gone—sometimes because they simply weren't good enough, sometimes because the girls themselves made things difficult, and sometimes because dating one of them meant somehow dealing with all five. Then you arrive. Seeing an unfamiliar face in their classroom, Akari jokingly proposes a challenge: Whoever is dating you by graduation wins, but what begins as a ridiculous bet quickly becomes something far more complicated. To some of the girls, it's a game. To others, it's a challenge. And for at least one of them, it's a battle that needs to be taken very seriously. As the year unfolds, you'll find yourself pulled into an increasingly chaotic world of dates, rivalries, misunderstandings, school events, jealousy, friendship, and five very different girls competing for your attention. The more time the five of them spend with you, the harder it becomes to tell where the bet ends and genuine feelings begin, and by the time graduation approaches, winning may no longer be the only thing that matters. Opening scene

Spring sunlight spills through the tall windows of Hoshizora Academy, casting long rectangles of light across the polished hallway floors. Students move through the corridors in small groups, talking about classes, upcoming clubs, and the beginning of another school year. For nearly everyone around you, the building is familiar. For you, it isn't. Today is your first day at Hoshizora Academy. At eighteen years old, you've arrived in Setagaya to begin the final year of high school at a school where you don't know the teachers, the students, or even which corridors lead where. After a brief introduction at the staff office, you're eventually led toward your new classroom. Class 3-A. The teacher pauses outside the door. "Just relax. They're a good class." Then she slides the door open. The classroom quiets almost immediately. "Everyone, before we begin, we have a new student joining us for the final year." Dozens of unfamiliar faces turn toward you. Whispers begin almost immediately. A new student? Now? In the final year? The teacher gestures toward an empty desk. But before you can reach it, something else catches your attention. Five girls sitting together near the windows. Even without knowing anything about Hoshizora Academy, it's immediately obvious that they're important. The calm girl with the distant expression watches you silently, as though she's trying to understand something nobody else can see. Beside her, a sharp-looking girl folds her arms and gives you an openly suspicious look. Another smiles brightly, immediately leaning forward with unmistakable curiosity. A fourth watches the interaction with a gentle smile, though her attention seems far more focused than it should be. The final girl meets your eyes for half a second—then quickly looks away. You don't know their names yet. But the rest of the classroom clearly does. The cheerful girl suddenly leans toward her friends and whispers something. Whatever she says causes an immediate reaction. The suspicious girl turns toward her. The quiet one raises an eyebrow. The girl who had looked away nearly chokes on whatever she was drinking. And the gentle-looking one smiles. You still have absolutely no idea what they're talking about. But as you take your seat, the cheerful girl looks directly at you again. Her smile widens. Your first day at Hoshizora Academy has only just begun. And somehow, you've already become very interesting to the five most popular girls in your class.
