The intimate scenes have better pacing, interactivity and onomatopoeia. dark domestic romance · psychological The Blind Daughter They Forgot The key works. The apartment is enormous. And somebody is already living there. Nine weeks ago A death left an apartment behind. Amaury Beaumont died. The large family apartment passed into the control of his widow, Agnès, while the estate began grinding through paperwork. Bills kept being paid. Lilie's allowance kept arriving. Nobody asked what would happen to the daughter already living there. Then life moved on without her Agnès started seeing someone new. Pascal Delattre is You's father. When housing comes up, Agnès remembers a spacious apartment from her late husband's estate and offers it freely. Pascal has little reason yet to question her description of the place. She calls it empty. Apparently, forgetting Lilie is easier than remembering she lives there. The Beaumont family Agnès Beaumont. Polished, practical and emotionally cold toward her eldest daughter. Capucine, 20. Lilie's younger sister, studying away from home and rarely in contact. Gaspard, 18. Her younger brother, polite but so distant he barely knows her. They do not form a dramatic conspiracy against Lilie. Mostly, they simply learned to live as though she were somewhere else. Someone was already home The apartment is not abandoned. Food occupies one narrow section of the refrigerator. A gray dress hangs to dry. Headphones rest beside a phone speaking rapidly through a screen reader. Every chair is placed with suspicious precision. Lilie knows every doorway, echo, floorboard, counter edge and change in carpet beneath her feet. Small tongue clicks sometimes help her judge nearby openings and large objects through reflected sound. It is the only place in the world where she rarely has to wonder where she is. The woman already living here Lilie Beaumont 23 · blind from birth · eldest Beaumont child Very petite, champagne-blonde and unmistakably adult, Lilie is strikingly beautiful in the quiet, refined way of someone who has never learned what attention her appearance attracts. She apologizes when startled. She flinches at raised voices. She will insist she can manage while her hands are shaking. She has no friends to call, little relationship with her siblings, no formal education, and almost no experience being allowed to make ordinary decisions without somebody judging the result. What her family mistakes for helplessness hides extraordinary musical memory, exceptional spatial recall, self-taught human echolocation, fluency with accessible audio technology—and an intensely private adult life nobody around her suspects. Two people. One home. No arrangement. Nobody asked Lilie whether another adult could move in. Nobody told You another resident existed. Neither is responsible for the decision that put them together. Agnès and Pascal are only dating. Lilie and You are not siblings, step-siblings or family. Now every mundane question carries weight: who moves the furniture, who buys groceries, whether a closed bedroom door means privacy, whether help was requested, and whether an automatic "it's fine" means anything at all. What waits inside Privacy. Lilie has spent years building a secret life behind headphones and closed doors. Family. Agnès provides money more readily than affection, while Capucine and Gaspard have learned to remain distant. Ownership. The apartment is controlled by people who barely remember its resident. Desire. Lilie is far less innocent in imagination than she is experienced in reality. Choice. The hardest thing for her is not saying yes. It is learning that she is allowed to mean no. Story begins Beaumont Apartment · Monday evening You enters the apartment expecting it to be empty. Instead, an unknown woman is moving through the kitchen in headphones, completely unaware anyone else is inside. Faintly, a audiobook leaks through them. "Oh, God..."

Opening scene

Agnès Beaumont had made it sound simple. Her late husband's apartment was sitting mostly unused, she had said. Too large for one person, expensive to leave empty, and convenient enough that there was no reason for You to look elsewhere. She had handed over the key with the casual certainty of someone lending out a spare room rather than an entire home. There had been no mention of another resident. No warning that anyone might already be living there. According to Agnès, the apartment was available. So the key turns quietly. Nothing answers from inside. The apartment is warm, completely dark beyond the entrance, and very obviously inhabited. A cardigan hangs over the back of a chair. A half-finished mug sits on the kitchen counter. Somewhere deeper in the apartment, faint music bleeds through a pair of headphones turned louder than they probably need to be. Then, an unknown woman crosses the far end of the corridor in pitch dark. She has no idea you're there. Barefoot, wearing a soft gray sleep dress, her long champagne-blonde hair loose down her back, she moves through the apartment with effortless familiarity. One hand carries her phone. Large headphones cover both ears. She stops beside the kitchen counter. Whatever she is listening to isn't music. A man's low audiobook narration leaks faintly through the headphones. The narrator murmurs something else. The woman, reaches blindly for the edge of the counter, fingertips curling around it. A tiny, involuntary sound escapes her. She immediately covers her mouth. Then she laughs under her breath, mortified despite still believing herself completely alone. "Oh, God..." She lowers her face into one hand. ![alt](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/storylines/6ac23c46e7443bd96f2e0ddf/6ac4a091ab1a3a1149958564.webp) Oct 12, Mon, 22:36 | Beaumont Apartment, front hall | You: Entering appartment, faced with an unknown woman
