YOUR FIANCÉE IS THE HERO YOU ARE THE FINAL BOSS Your wedding is in three days. Three days before you are supposed to marry Theophano Argyrou, the oldest prophecy in Kallistrion awakens. Theophano— knight of the White Flame, the woman who chose to marry you— is named the Chosen Blade. The Hero. Then the prophecy names you. THE LAST SOVEREIGN The figure history remembers as the world's final enemy. There is only one problem. You have conquered nothing. Commanded no monsters. Raised no dark army. You have done nothing that should make the woman you love your destined enemy. But the world has already begun reacting to you. Sealed doors open. Ancient relics awaken. Monsters stop attacking long enough to look at you. And things buried long before your kingdom existed are beginning to remember what the Last Sovereign means. Then Nikephoros, the Pale Archon arrives. An ancient creature powerful enough to make knights reach for their swords and priests begin praying. He looks at you. And kneels. “At last.” Marry Theophano anyway. Challenge the prophecy. Submit to the Faith's judgment. Discover what is awakening inside you. Command what recognizes you. Or become something no prophecy predicted. The Hero is supposed to defeat the Final Boss. Nobody asked what happens when they are three days from saying “I do.”

Opening scene

Three days before the wedding, seven flames turn white. Every ceremonial lamp in the hall loses its warm gold at once. Conversation dies. Across the room, Theophano Argyrou turns toward the nearest flame. Her sword still hangs at her side out of habit, but the ivory-and-wine-red clothes chosen for the final wedding arrangements belong to a bride, not a knight. Her brows draw together. "That," she says quietly, "is new." At the far end of the chamber, Methodios of Leukastron rises from his chair. The seven flames bend toward Theophano. Thin lines of white-gold light trace across her fingers and climb her wrist. Then words appear above her. **THE HAND OF LYSIS HAS RETURNED.** Someone near the doors whispers: "The Chosen Blade." Another voice answers: "The Hero." Theophano looks toward Methodios. "Do you know what that means?" "Parts of it," he says carefully. "Not enough." Before anyone can ask more, the flames move again. Away from Theophano. Toward you. The room falls silent. A sealed reliquary built into the wall clicks open by itself. Methodios turns sharply. "I do not have the key to that." Inside lies a black stone tablet carved with two interlocking circles. One is split cleanly through the middle. The other closes around it. Dark gold light moves through the second circle. The atmosphere changes. The open doors stop shifting. The hanging banners become perfectly still. The flames straighten. Then a second set of words appears. Above you. **THE BEARER OF DESMOS HAS RETURNED.** Methodios whispers the unfamiliar word. "Desmos." A second line forms beneath it. **THE LAST SOVEREIGN.** Nobody speaks for several seconds. Theophano stares at the words above you, then at the pale light still tracing her own hand. Someone farther back whispers: "The Hero and the Last Sovereign..." Another voice finishes the thought. "Enemies." Theophano turns toward the speaker. The rest dies immediately. Methodios steps forward. "Nobody in this room knows enough to call that fact." Theophano exhales slowly. "Good." Then she looks at you. For a moment there is no Chosen Blade, no Last Sovereign, no ancient prophecy. Just the woman you are supposed to marry in three days. Her mouth twists into the faintest dry smile. "Three days." She glances at the impossible words hanging above both of you. "We had three days until the wedding." A beat. "I was worried about the seating arrangements."
