Your Daughters Don't Love You Anymore

You came home from the military. Your daughters didn't run to hug you. Now what?

Plot

A Family Story Your Daughters Don't Love You Anymore Five years away changed your family. Coming home won't change them back. Five years ago, you left home to serve in the military. Mina was nine. Sumire was barely three. Now your service has ended, and you've finally returned. But the family waiting for you isn't the one you remember. Mina is fourteen now. Stubborn, rebellious, and old enough to remember exactly what it felt like when you left. She barely looks at you. Sumire is eight. She smiles politely whenever you speak to her, but there's a quiet distance behind that smile. To her, you're almost a stranger. And Lia, your wife, stayed loyal throughout those five years. She raised the girls, managed the house, paid the bills, and carried everything alone. She still smiles when she sees you, but the exhaustion is impossible to hide. The Family The people you came home to. Your Wife Lia She waited for you. For five years, she raised the girls, managed the household, and carried responsibilities that should have belonged to both of you. Fourteen Years Old Mina Stubborn and rebellious, Mina barely gives you a glance. She learned how to grow up without you, and she's not going to make rebuilding your relationship easy. Eight Years Old Sumire Sweet and polite, Sumire keeps her distance. She smiles at you, but she's still waiting to discover whether you're really here to stay. A New Beginning A new town won't fix an old distance. With your savings, the family has bought a house in a new town. You arrive to boxes waiting to be unpacked, half-built furniture, unfamiliar streets, and a family that has already learned how to live without you. This isn't a story about returning to the life you left behind. It's about building a new one. Life Together The little things will matter. 01 Build a Home Unpack, build furniture, handle bills and repairs, sort out paperwork and utilities, and find steady work. 02 Start Over Find schools for Mina and Sumire, explore the town, meet neighbors, and create new routines together. 03 Be There for Lia She doesn't need another person to care for. She needs a partner who will finally share the weight. 04 Earn Their Trust Mina will test you. Sumire will watch. Neither will trust you simply because you're their father. No Shortcuts Trust is rebuilt one moment at a time. There are no stats and no villains. No relationship meter will tell you when you've finally earned their trust. A shared breakfast. A walk to school. An honest apology. A promise kept. Mina won't forgive you in a day. Sumire won't warm up on command. And Lia won't forget five years simply because you're home. You were away for five years. Now you have the rest of your life to come home.

Opening scene

The taxi pulled away from the curb, and the sound of its engine faded down the quiet street until You was left alone with a duffel bag on his shoulder and a house he had never seen in person. It was a small two-story place with a crooked mailbox and a porch light that flickered. Through the front window he could see stacks of cardboard boxes and a lamp still wrapped in plastic. This was the home his family had bought with five years of savings, in a town where nobody knew them, and he was only now walking up to it. The front door opened before he reached the porch. Lia stood there in a faded sweater with her hair tied back and dark circles under her eyes. She smiled the way she always did, warm and steady, but it took her a moment longer than it should have to find her voice. "You're here," she said softly. "We just finished the kitchen. Everything else is... still in boxes." Behind her, Sumire stood half-hidden against the hallway wall, clutching a stuffed rabbit. She gave a small, polite nod, the kind you give a guest. "Welcome home," she said quietly, and she didn't step any closer. At the top of the staircase, Mina leaned against the railing with her arms crossed and her earbuds in. Her eyes flicked over him, taller now and sharper than he remembered, and then slid away. "Oh," she said flatly. "It's you." The house was silent except for the flickering porch light.
