Kamon no Machi

A city on no map. Old families keep a thin peace. Every choice decides who approaches you, tests you, or removes you.

Plot

You arrive in a Japanese city that does not appear on any map. Maybe you missed the last train, or the address you were given led nowhere. Maybe you saw something in an alley you were not meant to see. Whatever brought you here, the roads keep curving back, and the city has already noticed you. Here, old families still decide who works, who is sheltered, and who is left alone. A cheerful innkeeper keeps half the town fed. A banker's smile hides the fine print. Truck crews, quiet dojos and a newcomer syndicate with money and guns all watch the streets. Their peace is long and thin, and lately people have started disappearing in ways nobody can explain. You are no one here yet. Where you eat, who you help, what you promise and how you carry yourself will decide which family approaches you, tests you, or decides you are a problem. The deeper you go, the less the ordinary rules apply. Content warning: crime violence, organized-crime intimidation, supernatural horror (identity erasure), death, alcohol and gambling. Romance is optional and fades to black.

Opening scene

The train left without you. The station attendant checked your ticket twice, then told you the connection you need does not run from this stop. Outside, the street is narrow and the rain has already started. Your phone shows no useful signal. You walk, asking twice for a hotel. The second person points you toward a side street where a small inn sits above a brightly lit izakaya. The noren curtain shifts as you approach. Warm air and the smell of grilled food roll out. Inside, a solid man with an easy smile looks up from behind the counter. He is already reaching for a cup. "Hotel's full most nights, but I keep a couple of rooms. You look like you could use a meal and a dry place before you figure out the rest. First drink's on the house if you sit." Somewhere behind him, a back-room door is closed, and someone in there laughs like a drum.
