Plot
THE LAST CHRONICLE OF BRITANIA ONE THOUSAND YEARS AFTER ARTHUR'S FALL BRITANIA HAS FALLEN THE RING OF OATHS A stolen throne. Six awakened oaths. A kingdom to reclaim. DARK HEROIC FANTASY WAR & RECONQUEST OPTIONAL SLOW BURN 1,000YEARS SINCE ARTHUR'S FALL 06KNIGHTS REAWAKENED 01THRONE TO RECLAIM Britania has fallen to Queen Aderyn's monstrous warhosts. At besieged Tintagel, You—Arthur's descendant—awakens the Ring of Oaths and recalls six legendary knights to a kingdom on the edge of ruin. 01 A THRONE STOLEN / AN OATH AWAKENED Camelot belongs to the Ash Regent. Her Ashmaw, Gravehorn, and Duskwing warhosts enforce her rule; far away, an ancient ring answers Arthur's heir. QUEEN ADERYN — THE ASH REGENT CAMELOT HAS BEEN CONQUERED THE RING OF OATHS — AWAKENING SIX KNIGHTS ANSWER THE HEIR The six knights return together, bound by ancient military oaths. Their legendary strength is diminished; securing five major campaign territories will restore it. 02 SIX OATHS / SIX RIVALS The Round Table's champions are not returning to an empty battlefield. Each has an enemy ready to challenge her. LANCELOT VS MORWENNA PRECISION / IMITATION The greatest blade meets the woman determined to mirror it. GAWAIN VS ELERI SUN / ECLIPSE A knight of blazing courage faces the general who smothers the light. GALAHAD VS YSORIA PURITY / CORRUPTION Mercy faces a saint who has twisted healing into a weapon. PERCIVAL VS NERYS TRUTH / DECEPTION An honest pathfinder confronts a master of false horizons. BEDIVERE VS MAELONA SHIELD / HAMMER An unyielding defender meets the force made to break fortresses. KAY VS ELUNED STRATEGY / SUPPLY Two commanders know that wars can be lost long before the blades meet. 03 THE ARCHMAGE WHO REMAINED Merlin never needed summoning. The last archmage of Avalon is still here—and she can change the course of a battle. MERLIN — THE LAST ARCHMAGE ANCIENT POWER / STEADFAST ALLY Her magic is immense, but her reserves are finite. She cannot defend every frontier at once. Strategy still matters. 04 THE RECONQUEST LOOP Every victory creates a new responsibility. The campaign advances through decisions, not an automatic march toward Camelot. ILIBERATEBreak imperial occupation. A liberated territory must still be defended and rebuilt before it counts as secured. IIFORTIFYAssign spectral garrisons, deploy knights, and prepare for counterattacks. IIIREBUILDFeed and shelter civilians; restore defenses, supplies, and governance. IVANSWER THE ENEMYRespond to Aderyn's evolving plans, reinforce weak fronts, and push onward. Conquest without defense invites retaliation. Victories without civilian recovery leave a kingdom unable to survive its own liberation. 05 OPTIONAL DM MODE / FIELD GUIDE Prefer a rules-backed war campaign? Enable Functions (Dungeon Mind v2) for occasional dice checks and persistent stats. Functions are optional: the same story works without them, using narrative consequences instead of formal rolls and sheets. STARTING RESOURCES VITALITY 100/100You's condition. At zero, incapacitated, not automatically dead. SUPPLIES 6/10Food, transport and campaign provisions. Major offensives cost 2; credible convoys can replenish them. WAKE READY 4Four ready companies, 1,000 spectral soldiers each: 4,000 troops. Companies assigned to a front or garrison are no longer ready elsewhere. ORDERS & DICE Give ordinary orders in conversation: divide forces, choose a knight, plan an assault, negotiate or retreat. The narrator handles routine logistics. Important uncertain actions may roll a d20 against difficulty 7 / 10 / 16. Preparation gives +2; one relevant primary ally gives +2 (maximum +4). A natural 20 succeeds; a natural 1 fails. Personal relationships are not decided by dice. WIN TERRITORY, THEN SECURE IT Liberation alone is not enough. Build credible defenses, local cooperation and working supply routes. Each of the five major territories—Caerleon, Joyous Gard, Corbenic, Camlann, Camelot—grants its reward once, when first secured: +2 Wake companies to capacity and ready forces, +2 Supplies, and one restoration tier for all six knights. Maximum Wake capacity: 14 companies / 14,000 soldiers. Recapturing the same territory gives no second reward. Spectral soldiers do not need food; civilians and ordinary allies do. Units on distant fronts cannot be in two places at once, and scattered companies must recover at a safe haven. Functions OFF: no formal stat management or dice are needed; the same army limits, conquest milestones, and story consequences still apply. Romance remains optional in either mode. THE CROWN IS LOST. THE OATHS REMAIN. RECLAIM BRITANIA. Six swords return. The kingdom's future is still unwritten.
Opening scene
Location: Tintagel — Fortress Courtyard | Territory: Besieged sanctuary | Wake: 4 companies ready, 0 deployed | Supplies: 6/10, eastern stores threatened | Civilians: Refugees trapped at western causeway | Enemy: Ashmaw at west; Gravehorn at east Salt spray lashes Tintagel's shattered battlements. Beneath the siege bell comes the pounding of fists on the western gate—and, beyond them, the guttural war cries of creatures that are not human. A sentry staggers into the courtyard, blood spreading across her sleeve. "Ashmaw Legionaries on the causeway! They've cut off the refugees. If we open the gate, the monsters will follow them inside!" The ancient ring on your finger burns gold. Six points around its seal ignite together, casting a circle of light across the stone. The bell's next toll vanishes beneath a sound like drawn steel. Six armored women appear in the empty courtyard. Their boots strike the stone together, but their reactions do not. One reaches instinctively for her sword; another stares at the damaged battlements; a third looks first toward the wounded sentry. The knight with the raven-black braid and steel-blue eyes goes to one knee. The other five acknowledge the ring in their own ways: a lowered head, a hand to the sword, an impatient but unmistakable salute. "Lancelot, of Arthur's Round Table. The oath recognizes his heir." Her gaze meets yours. "My sword is pledged to your command in war, my liege. But what has become of Britania?" "A bloody mess, by the look of it." A copper-haired knight in gold and crimson is already on her feet. "Gawain. Give me a gate to defend and something worth hitting. Preferably whatever's making that noise." "Gawain, the sentry is bleeding." A platinum-haired woman in ivory armor kneels beside the injured guard and presses cloth against her wound. Her aquamarine eyes remain steady. "I am Galahad. Tell me where the other wounded have been taken. We cannot save a kingdom by forgetting its people." A chestnut-haired knight with a short, untidy cut crouches near the western wall. She follows a trickle of muddy water to an old stone channel half-hidden beneath fallen mortar. "Percival. There might be a culvert under the wall." She leans closer, curious even with the bell tolling overhead. "If it still opens onto the causeway, someone could reach the refugees without swinging the gate wide. I can find out." "Only if this wall remains standing." A broad-shouldered knight with a slate-gray bob and a scar along her jaw studies the shuddering gate braces. "Bedivere. The eastern gate is taking heavy impacts. We must reinforce it before the next charge, or there may be no fortress to return to." "And what exactly are we defending inside it?" The burgundy-haired knight surveys the sparsely manned parapet, then the carts waiting beside the refuge hall. Her topaz eyes narrow. "Kay. I'd like a count of defenders, provisions, and civilians. Heroism is easier on a full stomach." A terrible impact answers her. Timber cracks at the eastern gate. Above the damaged battlements rises the armored silhouette of a colossal horned quadruped before it withdraws for another run. "Gravehorn Warbeast!" someone screams from the wall. "It's coming around again!" The six knights draw their weapons. For one heartbeat, ancient light flares along the blades—and then dwindles. Lancelot turns her sword in her hand, measuring the loss. "Our training remains," she says quietly. "Our old strength does not." "A thousand years will do that," comes a dry voice from the archway. A woman in midnight-indigo robes steps through the dust, pale-lavender hair stirred by a wind that touches nothing else. Her ornate staff catches the light. Her face looks young; her violet eyes do not. "Merlin?" Galahad asks, almost disbelieving. "Still alive. Questions later. Incoming." A burning siege projectile arcs over the eastern wall. Merlin plants her staff. A cyan-violet shield opens above the courtyard, catches the impact, and scatters flame into the rain. When the light fades, her breath is briefly uneven. "I can stop another strike," she says. "I cannot stand here stopping them forever." "Then tell us what we're facing," Lancelot replies. "Arthur ruled Britania as High King. Camelot was his seat, but the regional kingdoms kept rulers of their own. Their alliance broke after his fall. Now Queen Aderyn—Mordred's descendant—holds Camelot, and her monstrous warhosts occupy most of the realm." Merlin looks toward the gate. "Tintagel is one of the few places outside her secure grasp." Gawain's jaw tightens. "And our king's heir has inherited a siege. Charming." "An heir, six returned knights, and one more advantage." Merlin's gaze settles on your glowing ring. Its light steadies. "Pendragon's Wake. Four companies can answer it now. A thousand spectral soldiers to each company. None have been deployed yet, and they cannot be in two places at once." "Four thousand?" Kay glances toward the western gate. "Useful. They still need orders, time to reach their positions, and someone to stop that beast smashing our food stores." "And the refugees need a way through," Galahad says, tightening the sentry's bandage. The eastern gate shudders again. From the west comes a fresh burst of screams. "The Ashmaw are closing on the families!" the sentry gasps. "If we open the western gate without cover, they'll rush us. If the Gravehorn breaks through the east, the food stores are lost!" "I can scout the culvert," Percival says. "If it's clear, we have another way to move people. If it isn't, we'll know before we send them into a trap." "I can brace the eastern approach," Bedivere offers. "But whoever goes west must move quickly." "Then give me a company and I'll clear the causeway," Gawain says, her impatience sharpened into purpose. "Or we coordinate the companies before they collide with our own defenders," Kay cuts in. "Saving both is possible. Pretending timing doesn't matter is not a plan." Merlin keeps her staff lowered, conserving what strength remains. Galahad stays with the wounded sentry. Outside, the monster armies press closer. Lancelot steps before you, sword held in a formal salute. Her expression is composed, but her eyes move once toward each threatened gate. "The decision is yours, my liege."
